Total brake failure on a truck or bus .... Near Impossible.

Truck brakes for vehicles over 7500k (7.5T) are operated by air pressure.

Actually, the air pressure works a brake actuator. The actuator is a very powerful spring and diaphragm device. The spring puts the brake ON. The air holds the brake OFF.

On a ten wheeler truck there are six actuators, one for each brake drum. If one fails on the air side .. All air pressure would be lost and the brakes would go on. If one fails on the spring side .. The actuator would break open under the pressure of the spring, air pressure would be lost, the brakes would go on. These devices are good and virtually fail proof, they have been in use for the past 50 years or so.

Any driver that claims and any authority that accepts "total brake failure" should be thoroughly investigated and dealt with.

I hope he's severely dealt with, but that depends on the size of his wallet!

I use this highway about three or four times a week and have seen numerous motorbikes on this highway including one coming against the traffic next to the middle dividing wall.

So obviously no notice has been taken of the "no motorbike" sign at the Sukhumvit entrance to the highway.

I would have thought it was a good spot for the police to make a few bob!

In the unlikely event that the drivers story is true; I've seen these motorbike nuts dodge buses and lorries almost every time I'm on a bus and I aint seen one have a head-on yet! The bus driver knows it & so do the fuzz so if he has no witnesses he'll cop it!!

moving along, yesterday afternoon returning from the beach in the merging lanes, Khao Takiab/return hua hin

i was cut off by a typical fat, tattooed farang on a big bike, who happens to own the road. i came off my motorbike, skidded and rolled over on the road,the bike stopping perhaps 5 meters away. within moments more than a half dozen bikes stopped, first guy asked how i was and with thumbs up pulled me to the side. another righted my bike on side of road, then second thai to assist me was actually a nurse who had disinfectant, iodine whatever and when i refused hospital visit she advised, she offered, insisted on following me home, which luckily was a km away. aways lucky me, just abrasions, contusions, swelling etc,

i have driven roads on more than a couple of continents and believe me, there are good and bad drivers everywhere.

I've flown Thai Airways and Eva to UK.

Both offer an excellent service and I have no complaints about anything.

The only advantage with Eva is, that they offer cheaper tickets.

Can't really understand what is all this bashing about Thai Airways........I think it's just a habit of certain TVF members.

Last time I flew Thai they still had no in-seat entertainment, just the old 1980's drop down screen, service and food were OK though. Should you want to spend a bit more then Eva's premium economy is best by far.
