  1. Ah, great, such news are now pouring in on a daily Basis. laugh.png

Didn't the Thai tourism minister say yesterday that "all problems have been addressed and everything is fine now " ?

Maybe invite that guy (after he recovered if he does) to the next THIS IS THAINESS festival at Suan Lumpinee so to teach him about local custom before things happen ;-)

try drinking in city bar anywhere round the world and then try to fob half the bill off.

not nice he got beat up but we only got half the story. there are some serious mouth merchants from the UK in pattay who think the world owes them a living and the locals they regard with utter disdain.

who knows he may have had it coming

No makkam the full story (as it is reported anyway) states that the man was on the way to the ATM to get the remainder of the money after stating to bar employees that's what he was going to do. He was hit from behind on the way to the ATM.

He could well have had a beating in store for him. But again a pack of spineless motorbike cabbies booting him in the head when he is on the ground already seems above and beyond the realms of any score settling, even more so when they weren't even involved in any way, shape or form.

So how about reading a little more closely before penning some moronic, speculative BS rant. A sickening mindset on show here. Give your head a shake

Well said! I hate these suppositions made by people who have no idea of what happened or even the nounce to read an article properly.

  2. I've flown Thai Airways and Eva to UK.

Both offer an excellent service and I have no complaints about anything.

The only advantage with Eva is, that they offer cheaper tickets.

Can't really understand what is all this bashing about Thai Airways........I think it's just a habit of certain TVF members.

Last time I flew Thai they still had no in-seat entertainment, just the old 1980's drop down screen, service and food were OK though. Should you want to spend a bit more then Eva's premium economy is best by far.

  3. Say what? Fake Watches sold in Thailand... I don't believe it. I remember Lady Gaga getting criticized for saying she was looking forward to buying a fake Rolex on her visit. The authorities wanted her to take back her words and swore this kind of practice does not exist. I'll say it... lies, all lies...fake is the name of game. One major department store in BKK repacks goods from China (they're labeled) in brand name boxes right out on the floor, during work hours. Yet the store is packed every day with Arab tourist buying the goods as real. Oh my...we live in magical times.

    Fake from top down!

  4. I interact with street vendors all the time and never ever had a problem - other than sometimes having to deal with the hard sale. One can only guess what the hell set them off - and how he set off 3 at the same time.

For the sake of argument I will assume that it had something to do with the loss of face -- not at not buying -- but treating the vendors inappropriately.... Legally, the vendors were in the wrong and should have to face up to what they did. If the instigation was treating the vendor with disrespect - then I would not feel sorry for him..... sooner or later when you go around doing that someone is going to take offense and you are going to get into an altercation.... but then the lack of information leaves a lot open to guessing.

The Mrs sent me back to a street vendor once who was overcharging tourists (she was hospitalized at the time), just about escaped the joining her. Never again, she does it so much better than me anyway!

  5. ^ lovely to see this bit of ethnocentrist, elitist attitude from you. No surprise really.

Not everyone is a native English speaker - kinda like those Thais all around you. I guess they shouldn't criticize, or have opinions either... and it'd be just a small step until you'd deny them democracy for not speaking 'the master language', English. Right?

I guess we just got to see your true colors.

I have consistently defended democracy. What have you been doing?

Doesn't seem that way - considering you are consistently ignoring the issues brought up and pointed out to you, in the prior regime's abuse, manipulation, and subjugation of democracy ... like, having a criminal, hiding abroad, set up puppets and attempt to run the country via Skype while financing and supporting violence against Thai civilians.

    http://englishnews.thaipbs.or.th/chief-investigator-says-mastermind-abroad-financed-violence-pdrc-protests?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=chief-investigator-says-mastermind-abroad-financed-violence-pdrc-protests

& the little buggers still got the popular vote! Stalin & Adolf loved their mothers; so they were alright heads of state, right? Quackers this democracy lark, aint it?

  6. "Thailand received full score on entertainment and amenity," ---

Thailand gets next to no international shows, has no major sporting events (Takraw doesn't count), hardly any non-thai musicians who aren't a decade past their peak come to play here, has no worthy musuems or libraries or art galleries, fewer recreational venues than other countries..... yet it still gets full score?

I guess if your definition of "entertainment" is limited to shopping, drinkiing in bars and hiring prostitutes.

Sure there is worse places to live, but seriously maybe some "expats" could enlighten me what constitutes entertainment for old folk in Thailand? Sitting in traffic? Evening Aerobics in the Big C parking lot?

I'd have thought for retirees disabled access (Nil in Thailand) and road safety (Less than nil) should be in there somewhere?

  7. I opened this thread, ready to hear whatever interesting opinion was in there.

Then on the fifth line I read this blatant absurdity : 'the democratically elected government of Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra'.

Well, sorry, but I refuse to read any further.

If paying massively for votes, luring people into voting for you with financial incentives of all kinds, coercing uneducated villagers into voting for you by buying off their village 'heads' (oh the irony of this word) ... is to be deemed consistent with the words 'democratically elected', then let's just say the concept of true democracy is up sh... creek without a paddle.

Buying elections, luring folks, coercing whoever blah, blah, blah Poodle-in-the-microwave alert. Poodle in the microwave alert. Poodle in the microwave alert. All Hands On Deck. The deck of the Thaitanic.

I've got a widely dispersed in-law circle from the North to NE and BKK and I haven't met one who got a stang from any politician, how many on TV know someone who has?

  8. Too negative. I hope prayuth ban the writer from thailand. He never honor the good think prayuth did, like return happiness to Thai people

Return happiness to Thai's! You must mean the yellow side? The country is so split evo-stick can't fix it.

I'm no lover of Thai politics, but whilst one side believes in the old ways and the other democracy, the same old arguments will continue.

The generals might think dictatorship is the answer but were in the world has that sort of government flourished? Even Burma is opening up slowly and maybe Putin is beginning to look foolish to the Russian western loving consumers.

Having the winning political party in a countries general election actually govern you may not give you the best government, but it sure as hell beats everything else as come next election they can whistle for your vote!

  9. So long as they buy from the shelf not like OZ and invest in an unknown Collins class that now is ok but in the early stages was a pig, Thailand must understand that maintenance up keep is high and between the subs and the rail projects will possibly blow the Thai budget on up - keep out of the water.coffee1.gif

Dockyard maintenance requirements mean a fleet of three boats will be required to maintain one at sea, they will also require at least 2 operational crews, 2 dockside watch crews + a crew on work-up. That sort of outlay'll get you @ 20 fast patrol boats. These boys in navy blue should recon up a thing or two before splashing the cash on a submarine fleet. I suppose the Navy will be rubbing their hands together at the prospect of another 4* flag officer and his retinue!

  10. I feel sorry for the majority of police who (far away from the tourist hot spots) carry out their duties properly and are promoted on merit. I know several police and they are sick of useless or inexperienced officers who buy themselves up the greasy pole. Junior officers are lowly paid and often have small holdings that supplement their wages, this is how corruption grows; as the odd backhander becomes a permanent way of topping up they meager salary.

Very senior officers have links to the Thai old boys nepotistic network that goes way back; so there's no way that things will change soon. Any properly constructed anti-corruption department would (in most countries) just have to look into an officers financial situation to see if their lifestyle reflects their salary, but (unless someone starts treading on some toes) it just 'aint going to happen.
