  1. Now the burmese have their lawyers perhaps we could start a fund to match the $1 million baht that the head man said he would pay if anyone could prove anyone from his family was involved....

Let's rustle up a million baht and offer it to the heads mans family if they give DNA samples to the UK authorities..All the sons and cousins...not put the samples in a taxi fto Singapore and end up in bkk...Let the uk compare them with the samples they have

If they have nothing to hide they'd jump at it and all this inuendo would vanish...

Then their sweet little Island can return to business as normal, even regain their already lost face and income,

What's worse for a Thai, loss of face or money? Well you have all of the above now..

Would be the perfect call for his disgusting offer of a million to prove his family did it...

The familes DNA holds the key..

What's this bullshit about giving DNA to the Pommies,,,If one wants a independent investigation I would say the only ones that could maybe help the Thai investigators is a combined effort from the UN and the Thai Police,,,Not UK!

I think because they were British citizens it should if possible be investigated by the UK. The problem will be how much evidence remains on the deceased after the Thai post mortem, important DNA could have been washed away after the Thai pathologists had taken their samples and as a lot of people mistrust the Thai police, only separate independent sample analysis would placate the (me amongst) sceptics.

  2. Nice looking guy and lovely girl to have their lives end in this way is so sad. May they rest in peace. It has bothered me all week thinking about this and how something like this can so easily happen in Thailand. I have seen things get out of control so quickly here and normally end badly. RIP sad.png

It can happen anywhere on this planet. Don't, please, just hone in on Thailand.

    .

    And the murder rate.

  3. One tourist murder suspect now arrested, another on the run

KOH TAO: -- The police have arrested a suspect in the murder of two British tourists in Koh Tao and are still hunting for a second suspect who has escaped into Bangkok.

Eighth Region Police Command commissioner Pol Lt-Gen Panya Mamen identified the first suspect as Mon.

He is the brother of a village headman in Koh Tao.

He was arrested after evidence which police collected were examined and proved he was involved, he said.

He also said another suspect is also a son of that village headman. But he has already to Bangkok.

He said both suspects were captured by CCTV cameras and the police have gathered enough evidence to implicate them in the murders.

He said the southern police were coordinating with the metropolitan police to hunt him down, and expected to apprehend him today.

The southern police chief also assured the public that there was no arrest of scapegoats in this murder case as it now is a focal attention of the world.

He also dismissed any suggestion of local mafias or influential people that could twist the investigation with promise that local influence would pose no obstacle to the police investigation.

Instead the police will eliminate all these mafias, he said.

Meanwhile a police source said the police are also looking into the cooperation of those who helped to arrange the suspect to escape. They also will be arrested.

The southern police chief also assured the public that there was no arrest of scapegoats in this murder case as it now is a focal attention of the world.

so it takes the attention of the worlds media to stop the police fitting up scapegoats?

Yes, sadly it actually does. And it seems that with the media attention on this case, we will finally see the real murders being brought to justice. This is a very rare but good moment for Thailand. Now we just need convictions and the responsible being put in prison. That also will require media attention and pressure to happen. But good to see that there is finally some kind of end to this.

Prison; no way, it's gotta be the needle!

  4. So how exactly is the Russian government 'hitting back'? What a piece of garbage journalism.

    Need some glasses?

“According to Paragraph 1 of a bilateral intergovernmental agreement [between Russia and Thailand], Russian tourists are allowed to enter Thailand for up to 30 days, after which they must leave the country, [but] the number of entries is not limited.”

i.e. they can do in and outs as many times as they wish.

So the Ruskies are hitting back by pointing out to Thailand how incompetent immigration are at interpreting their own rules?

Should have immigration officers all over Thailand quaking in their boots!

  5. Can you say, GT-200? That was either corruption or gross stupidity. It was an army deal, wasn't it?

The army has probably got the same amount of corruption as anywhere in LOS, same same in the priesthood on the beach or driving a taxi. You just have to look at the presenters on army tv and who's who in the big house or what happened to all the missing weapons/ordnance. That's how Thailand works and no matter who has the big stick there simply isn't enough goal space.

  6. The last thing Thailand needs is 'Democracy'. If destroyed ancient Greece and eventually destroyed Rome. What Thailand need is 'Rule of Law' and not rule by mob/majority that is Democracy. I live in a Republic which respects and assures personal rights by rule of law and not 'whim of politician'. Democracy is what allows Thai politicians to change their constitution at the drop of a hat to suit their current needs. Democracy is fed by populism where the dwindling number of 'haves' support an ever-growing number of 'have nots'. It is unsustainable.

For your edification: The American form of government.

    http://www.wimp.com/thegovernment/

You must have really loved old Adolf; a democracy puts in place a government via its electorate that enacts laws for all its citizens, that government is accountable to its citizens both through the ballot box and its enacted laws. This ensures that any corrupt politician or megalomaniac generals are subject to the full force of these laws.

Thailand has failed to tackle the power of its military for the past eighty years and will continue to do so as every time there is a coup the constitution is re-written by a bunch of unelected so called elite who manipulate it to their own advantage.

  7. <script type='text/javascript'>window.mod_pagespeed_start = Number(new Date());</script>

Of course we will never see the actual report.

So the test results on the earthing integrity of the machine and its installation, the operation (or presence) of the RCD or any other safety related checks will never be known.

We just get to see 'power overload' which is plain rubbish, or really, really poor translation.

Nice to see someone knows electricity, with a power overload, the on-board protect system should shut the ATM down, the only way anyone could be electrocuted is by poor installed, maintained RDC and earth strapping, all in the above

Power overload is plain rubbish; an overload blows a circuit breaker plus a live chassis cannot happen if the machine is earthed.

  8.

These sites are totally f***ked.....slum living conditions....the cheapest of materials....and no-one in charge that has any idea of what's required to build a building safely.....everything they do on these so called "condo" projects is crap...we all see it every day!

God help Thailand if the authorities ever decide to enforce the rules!!!

    Well summed up.

The problem is cheap labour and poor if any skills.

I have yet to see a building inspector in Thailand.

Nothing in the country is built properly or designed to last.

The only country I have seen where things are even worse is India.

They use the monsoon in lieu of inspectors!

  9. It's perfectly normal to have a pardons process in the judicial system. In Thailand case, as the article obliquely says, its done on "special occasions," which everyone here should know and understand.

But the point that deserves addressing is: Why should inmates who receive the death penalty for grisly or multiple murders be able to get pardoned down to very short sentences (particularly when counting in pre-sentencing detention time).

If you're going to have a pardons process for death row inmates, let it be doing from death to life in prison, or 50 or 30 years. But to go from a death sentence to 10 years for the kinds of crimes mentioned in the OP is beyond belief.

Except Thailand were $,Bt,£'s etc count for far more than the victims.

  10. Just goes to show how moronic the mindless sheep who followed the PAD and their reincarnations up until the PDRC.

The leader of the group being as corrupt as Thaksin! Well i think most people with half a brain new this already.

Pity the self portrayed 'educated' middle class who followed them are so brain dead!

The only mindless thing is your misguided gloating, painting everyone and everything that goes against Thaksin and his minions as being Yellow Shirts and Sondhi's "sheep".

The g(l)oats are like kettles following the sheep, calling the frying pan black(or yellow)!

  11. That really wasn't one of the scams, that was just asking an excessive amount.  The scammers will do things like put a sticker over some damage which would come off in the water or as they push the boat in the water they pull of a cover which the previously removed the bolts.  They use the same damage many times on many different people.

Many of the assumed scams are with people who have actually done damage and don't have the money to pay.  Usually the operators will start with a high price but that can be reduced after awhile, some will try to intimidate though.  Believe it or not there are some honest operators out there.

Yeh, the Swedes are pretty honest; but the Baltic aint 'arf cold mum!
