  1. Looks to me like you are not liable for Thai tax until you bring in over 210,000THB or possibly more?

    Personal Allowance 60,000

(+ 60,000 if your spouse is not working and doesn't submit a tax return)

(+190,000 if you are over 65 years)

(+30,000 up to 3x if you have kids in education and your spouse not already claiming)

(+ up to 25,000 for health insurance)

    ++

then the first 0 - 150,000 THB is charged 0% Tax band.

So taxed only on what you bring in over at least 210,000THB? Right?

A much lower personal allowance though than some other countries, UK allows 12,570GBP (550,000THB ish).

On the UK SA302 annual tax calculation it shows 'Total Income Received', then it takes off allowances and shows 'Total Income', depending on which of these figures Thailand uses will make all the difference.

Does he rent the house. There are so many different ways to read the article.

The one thing I am not clear on why were the news there and was it just coincidence that this reporter was there at the same time and had this issue.

I have to wonder if this was them giving the middle digit to a pain in the asset

I think the reporter and the applicant are one and the same person, or its the foreigner with a Thai employee to help? from the article... "the foreigner, who works in local media".

Maybe the IO is not a fan of the media outlet he works for "Col Thanet said It's back to the question of what job he [the foreigner] does... It is case by case"

  3. I did marriage extension last month (still under consideration), on the day I went there was a ceremony outside as someone new had just arrived that day.

I knew beforehand that there were new photo requirements from the volunteers, an extra photo in bedroom and kitchen and the front house pic should be one close up so the house number is visible and one wider shot full body.

The video call was the same as we did last year, the IO showed me on his phone what he needed and its just recreating the photos you have supplied, not really a walkthrough. They take a screen shot from the video call with the small window of the IO in the photo - in lieu of a home visit (only had home visit once on the first extension) takes around 2 minutes no trouble at all. Polite and friendly IO

There was no mention of Chanote, just the usual house owners house book, id, rental agreement. He did pay more attention than usual to the documents, he noted our rent agreement was drawn up 10 years ago and had no end date, he accepted it as have done other times but said it would be better if it said unlimited or no expiry date on it.

  4. Thanks,

Not sure whats going on its a weird fault, but I'm sure its not us as same on 2 different phones and everything works when switching to 4G.

Some apps seem to half work, like Grab loads up and works until you try to order something then it just times out or says no / slow connection (but occasionally works) Same with Lazada app works mostly until I look at an order that is expected to be delivered then it waits and says no connection.

Seems to be most noticable on android apps more than on pc, but eg Bangkok Bank loads about 50% of the time on pc and the app is not working at all on phones.

TOT/NT say they have checked everything and all looks ok.

  5. Anyone else having TOT problems today?

    Some sites/apps working some not

Bangkok Bank (on app and computer 80% of time), Lazada (app not work computer work), Line (won't send messages 80% of time).

Tried 2 different phones both same, switch to mobile data it works. On computer work better but not all the time.

Some sites seem fine, google for example.

Router reset 3 times, TOT have reset connection and are now having me do pings and tracert

Been with AA/ACS for 8+ years, never made a claim, but premium was increasing annually.

2 years ago I checked ACS website directly and to my surprise the online quote was almost 40% cheaper than AA was charging me. AA's response was "you belong to an old pool where premiums tend to go up etc'. I called them on their b/s, lack of responsibility to inform me on better options upon renewals and ended my r/ship with them.

After canceling my contract with AA I signed up with ACS directly. This year premium is up agan for no apparent reason. For next year I'm considering https://www.wrlife.net/medicalStep1.php#0

I also changed to dealing direct with my insurer after a broker issue. My current insurance though is up 25% after making a claim and looks like it will remain up for a good while (see my other thread).

wrlife looks interesting, anyone know anymore about them?

The local $ plan is less expensive than the local Thai plan for more coverage (?) $20000 ≈650k Baht vs 400K Thai plan am I missing something. Any experiences with them? Thanks.

change insurer, no point 25% increase every year. You should do it a year ago.

    cover metal removal with self-finance.

get higher policy with large deductible, but top up accident to max, around 1mln (that for about 1k baht)

Thanks, still considering options, I think the metal removal will cost more than a years premium (proximal humerus).

1Mil accident cover for 1k Baht???

  8. Completed car renewal 5 to 5 years last week.

Much better having this appointment system hope it continues, was in at 8AM out before 8.30AM, very simple.

Cost for car only was 500B + 5B total 505Baht, they didn't charge for any printing/photo this time.

  9. I have health insurance from a Thai company for a few years, its a basic policy 400K coverage. When I bought it I researched myself and had thought this to be the best value for the price, I contacted a broker (one of the popular ones mentioned on here) they looked around and came to the same recommendation as I found on my own, I bought it through the broker but quickly I had an issue that made me lose confidence in them so I contacted the insurer direct and have renewed directly since.

I had no claims until Dec 2020 when I had an accident and surgery, the IPD bill was around 140K and I paid around 10k of it, there was also around 20k of OPD treatment which I paid.

My renewal came for Feb 2021 and I lost my no claims discount 10% and premium was up 25% over the standard for my age. This years 2022 renewal is now in and again up 25% but have 10% NCD back. Last year I was still recovering so did not give a lot of thought to it and wasn't expecting the premium to go up forever because of this one claim. I contacted them and eventually found out that my premium will remain higher until the loss ratio falls below 70%, from my quick calculations this could take several years.

Now I could change insurer, but I may have to have some metal work removed later this year. If I changed insurer I guess they would class this as preexisting. My thinking at the moment is to pay another year, claim what I can if I need extra work then change possibly next year? I would be happy using a broker again if there are any recommendations for Phuket but probably after this renewal? Any advice welcome?

Nationailty dosen't appear on any of the certificates either hard copy or on the app. On my yellow vaccine passport my nationality is correct, it's only on the 'digital pass' tab on the app my nationality is wrong, or are you saying that the International certificate is the same as the 'digital pass'?

No not the same, Int Cert is all in English, Name, Nationality, Passport number, DOB, Sex, Certificate status, identifier, issuer, QR code and then vaccination record underneath (just first 2 showing). I'm guessing the same info as your yellow passport?

All my details seem correct, and include todays booster, however on the 'digital health pass' tab, it has my nationality as ukranian, not UK. Can this info be changed via the app itself?

There was a an option in International Certificate to make corrections, can't remember if Nationality was an option or not, a tick box I think it was.  I guess better you go to Vachira and tell them and request a new document ??

  12. 5 minutes ago, PST said:

Is the International certificate needed though if your yellow vaccine passport is up to date?. My app is showing booster shot i had today, but then it asks for payment etc??

Not sure I think it serves the same purpose. If you choose 'e-Vaccine Passport' option its currently free, choose the next available date as the 'booking date' and fill out the details with photo of your passport. I did it the first time end of Dec and worked well.

  13. In MorPhrom you can see a digital version (in 'COVID-19 Vaccine Certificate' tab) that looks exactly the same as the paper certificate they gave at Jungceylon last time, when I checked it already shows the 3rd booster on there.

Although they have now messed my name up, the old certificate and digital copy in MorPhrom showed my name as FIRST NAME + SURNAME, now it has changed and shows FIRST NAME + MIDDLE NAME.

The International Certificate tab has not been updated, shows first 2 shots only but my name is correct in there. There is a button for 'adding vaccination information', so I filled that out and will see if it updates.

  14. I know there has been a recent topic on this that has been closed, thanks for the info there.

Do they still do the eyesight and reaction tests, I've had them before but last time it wasn't needed.

How long after licence expiry can I delay getting a renewal?

From the other topic it was mentioned a medical cert is not needed for a renewal, anyone confirm?

    Thanks.

Why do you say the HK1 will not play 4k?

Maybe you should have taken a gander at my link, "https://bit.ly/3rv6ZDE" as 8K far exceeds 4K!

    image.png.1d5a841f50fe2db63a7d4b8cda49fe44.png

Unfortunately I do not have an 8K source in order to test this claim????

Before you say you were talking about the HK1 I did say to the HK1 poster it was a good choice of CPU. In other words both boxes have the same CPU. The poster did not include a link so who knows if the HK1 claims to play 8K.

In case you are too busy to open my link the most important specs are:-

What more can you ask for.

I've seen your link thanks, I'm talking about Netflix and Youtube specifically, I know it claims to play other 4K/8K files.

Read it in several places Netflix won't run at 4K (eg https://androidpcreview.com/netflix-hd-android-tv-box/ ) unless have a certified box like MiBox or Mecool. Seller said it only plays Netflix in 540P but I have read it can play in 1080P so not sure. I don't need 4K was just trying to understand it all.

I'm more interested in Youtube than Netflix so I was wondering if there are restrictions on YouTube or will they play any resolution?

  16. The HK1 box looks good value for the features.

One thing I'm not sure about, with this and other boxes, I know they won't play netflix 4K (don't mind that) but will it play HD 720/1080P or only SD. What about Youtube what resolution will that play in, again not bothered about 4K but would be nice to have 720/1080 HD.

I know boxes like the Mi and Mecool are certified and will play 4K Netflix but they are more expensive and seem have lower RAM. Thanks

  17. Can the Android boxes have any live tv without paying a subscription (Eng/Thai), do they work out of the box or need a lot of setting up?

Any recommendations for a budget box to give it a try, Lazada has a huge price range starting under 500Baht, is there a lot of difference between a 400baht and a 800Baht box - Thanks.

    It has certainly disappeared.

Glad this story does seem to be reported incorrectly by the Bangkok Post and has been removed, but unhelpfully The Phuket News has just posted it on there site at 12.15 this afternoon.

Richard Barrow tweets confirms it seems to only apply to Non OA "front page story in the Bangkok Post... is very misleading"  same as Ubon Joe has said here.
