You're only 90km away from Hat Yai, better selection down here I suspect. We've a choice of Avis, Hertz, Sixt, Thrifty, National, plus a few Thai rental companies - most are based out of Hat Yai airport.

I can't imagine you'll find much beyond Thai Rent a Wreck in Patthalung!

Thanks, I was thinking of Trang as its a bit nearer and they have also have some of the big names operating out of Trang airport, but Hat Yai is another option.

Have found a Phatthalung company that sounds ok, 2 year old cars eg Yaris @900 baht, first class insurance, if we decide to give them a try will report back with how it was.

  2. Can anyone recommend a car rental company in Phatthalung, just for a day or two, small car ok?

Would prefer a known chain with good insurance etc, but there does not seem to be any unless want to pick up from Trang.

    Thanks.

I get two pensions paid monthly into my Thai Bank account but at the moment in total they fall short of 65K baht. So can I transfer the shortfall to my Thai bank on a monthly basis, thereby covering the 65K and some??

If thats the case and they don't care about the source of the funds (pension or foreign income), then there would be nothing to stop people transferring in the whole 65K monthly (40K for marriage) monthly, spend what you need and then a few times a year send the excess back to your home country.

  4. Thanks for replies.

Would be nice to start using the 400K after application, but not much of a problem. Suppose I will just follow whatever they say on the day of application.

I can visit any Phuket branch of Krungsri, so maybe the larger branches would do same day (inside central maybe?), which would be easier as I could be at immigration first thing the following day without picking up the letter first.

Does Phuket have a main branch of Krungsri?

If I withdraw 500Baht on the day of application, won't that be a problem if balance now does not match the letter produced a day or so earlier?

  5. This year I am planning to change from income to 400K in the bank for the annual extension based on marriage.

I understand that you don't have to show the source of the funds (overseas transfers) for this because I am using some Baht I already had here which has been transferred into a new account only for the extension, been increasing the balance using transferwise into my everyday Thai acc then moving some into the new acc (GBP>THB fx rate is low and volatile at the moment, so have been spreading it a bit), If the rate is ok will transfer the rest early next month (or possibly use some gold if the fx rate crashes).

So I wanted to check when can I start spending the 400K? after the application day, or have to wait until extension is approved?

Also can you usually get the bank letter while you wait or does it need ordering in advance. Krungsri/ Ayudhya, Phuket. - thanks.

However even if not, the DO have the information that it was an international transfer in their system (though maybe not accessible to branch staff). Something called a "Credit Advice" is generated each time and you can get a copy from the head office. Showing these internal  Kasikorn documents to your local branch should suffice to get them to include the information in their letter, at least it always has been with my branch.

Do they actually make individual transfers?

Perhaps they don't make individual transfers allocated to each recipient so would not have a credit advice for the amount you transferred. Maybe they have a pool of money in an account in Thailand which they transfer out locally until its used up, held in different Thai banks, when one is used up they move on to the next ???

I don't know this just guessing how it might work, (it would explain why sometimes I get funds in under 2 hours, started and received outside of UK banking hours) ???

  7. Looked a few times before at this out of interest, but never really understood it all. Most legal firms still seem to talk mostly about the company route which does not seem the best way to me.

Is there a difference in costs between a lease and a usufruct, legal costs to set up, fees/taxes payable to land office, ongoing costs?

Is an usufruct available for life, but a lease limited to 30 years (unless renewed)?

Is a lease or usufruct permitted where the property is mortgaged, to a Thai?

What would happen if the Thai was die in either case?

  8. My watch (Rotary) has stopped working, thought it was just the battery but the guy downstairs in Big C Phuket Town says it probably needs a clean/service, 600 baht or maybe a repair (parts 200/300 ish). Last time this happened a long time ago a service in the UK fixed the problem.

Used this guy a few times but never for a repair, anyone can recommend or suggest an alternative. Rotary Thailand website is not working, but think there is a service centre in Bangkok.

    Thanks.

The marriage extension financial requirements are:

40,000b per month of INCOME as verified by an Embassy income letter and whatever other related documents Phuket Immigration may demand,

    OR

400,000 baht in a Thai bank account on deposit at least 3 months prior to your application, documented by a letter from your Thai bank and your bank book.

Isn't it 2 months for a marriage extension (3 months for retirement) ?

  10. Unless anything changes it seems the only sure way of getting an annual extension for now is by having the 400/800K on deposit.

If change to money on deposit has anyone specifically at Phuket been turned away because it does not show as new money from overseas?

I have some towards my extension here in different accounts already but nothing to show it came from outside Thailand, I am thinking I would consolodate this together into a new account and keep it there for extensions, topping up with a foreign transfer (transferwise) to reach the required amount each year. I read that technically it does not have to be shown as new money from abroad but in reality is that acceptable to Phuket?

    Hi there!

Due to regulatory mandates, DeeMoney is not yet offering online registration and do require all customers to come in for face-to-face registration.  We apologize for that inconvenience - but promise to make it a pleasant experience that will not take up much time!  Once you're registered, you have the convenience of using the DeeMoney app anywhere, anytime!

    Have a great day!

On your website it says you have a partnership with Superrich, can't you extend this partnership to allow them to be agents to register customers. I wouldn't travel to Bangkok but would register in the local Phuket Superrich if available.

I did a transfer to Kasikorn a few months ago from Transferwise and the last leg is not a domestic bank... Transferwise shows as a foreign transfer.  Exactly the reason I'm considering using it again to prove funds from abroad.

There was a 500 fee the same as a normal foreign bank transfer when arriving in Kasikorn but no fees for sending (I think, hence the reason for my question but your right I could just go check the site but can't remember my password at the mo)

I posted a screenshot showing the 500 baht fee and it shows as a foreign transfer on another thread but I'd have to sign in and screenshot it if you don't believe me

Lloyds bank transfer - big fee on UK side and 500 baht on Kasikorn side

Paypal on the other hand shows as a domestic transfer 'dummy branch' with no fee

Edit:  Just found my screenshot...shows 550 baht fee for transferwise...the dummy branch one was Paypal - 'International' one is Transferwise

Image result for thaivisa richiejom transferwise

Never had a local bank charge from  Kasikorn using transferwise, are you sure the charge is from the transferwise transaction, I would check it.

I have had different decscriptions though on the K bank account, dummy branch or international trade etc, I once asked transferwise why this was and why it couldn't just say international transfer, after some checking they gave me the answer...

If money is transferred through BBL beneficiary bank shows it on the recipient’s account as Dummy Branch while if the partner is the Kbank beneficiary bank shows International Trade and Factoring Center. I’m afraid there’s nothing we can do from our end to help the you as we cannot influence what will be written on the beneficiary’s account as far as we don’t intervene in the transfers. Unfortunately we cannot always transfer through Kbank either, as far as it is not our main partner.

  13. Thanks, device manager shows my less than 2yr old laptop has usb 3.0 (although the ports are not blue), so don't need the power supply. Although the ones on Lazada with the power supply are cheaper for some reason, maybe its because they are only usb 2.0 (slower?). It says sata iii are all sata the same?

For those prices looks like its worth a go.

  14. Thanks for replies. First I need to find someway to connect drives to my windows pc, I was thinking of a dock but might just buy an enclosure instead as they are quite cheap.

Tried the photorec software with my sd card for a test, a lot more difficult to use than recuva as no GUI, but assuming I did it right it found 3 less photos than recuva did. But worth having for when I get around to connecting the hdd's.

Try RECUVA, free software, which will recover any files which have been deleted but not overwritten.

Thanks, I just tried it using my SD card, it recovered a lot of photos a few hundred but only around 60 were fully recovered and usable. So got a few back.

Probably worth a go with the old HDD from windows laptop but not sure if it will help for the files in the WD my book live I think it may be a kind of Linux os?

  16. I have a couple of old HDD's that have failed and stupidly lost a lot of photos.

The first is more straightforward, an old WIndows laptop with Hitachi 5K250-160 2.5" Sata (?)

The second is a WD My book Live (kind of NAS, with no usb ), this one does not have a lot on it mostly tv/movies which I don't mind to lose. Just before it died the available capacity reduced 80%, basically all that was left to use was the unused space. Now its all gone. Would I even be able to read this NAS drive with Windows 10?

Is it straightforward to try and rescue some old photos from the drives, I was thinking of buying some kind of dock but if the chances of it working are small I won't bother. The drive have not been used for a long time but I keep thinking I should try. What software (ideally free) is best to use.

In that link it incorrectly says 3 months seasoning  for marriage, shows the BE does not really understand the details and maybe why they are saying to show 40K per month in a Thai account to immigration.

There are multiple errors in that. Just proof they do not have a clue about what they are writing about.

Even calling  extensions of stay a visa is a big error.

Exactly right, if they can't get this not that difficult to find information correct (could have asked ubonjoe!), makes the theory that they know something we don't regarding immigration accepting 40K monthly into a Thai account as proof very unlikely,  and this is all down to the BE not any upcoming Immigration changes.
