  1. vfs told me that anyone can submit the application, does not have to be a special agent, didn't know that.

If no special approval is required I'm surprised there are not more offering this service from Phuket or even a company nearer the trendy office, would make sense to send it there instead of via pattaya.

Still looking for recommendations other than key, thaivisa-express possibly? Thanks

  2. I've posted in the Phuket forum but thought might get some more recommendations here.

To save a trip to Bangkok considering using an agent to renew British passport.

Have seen key visa mentioned a lot and a couple of recommendations in the Phuket forum, mixed reviews on google and they seem very busy to reply to messages.

Any other recommendations for an agent specifically when posting in to them?

Or I may just do it myself, can you get appointments quite easily/quickly, how long until passport is back, any recent experiences?

The only thing I am unsure about is the proof of address which has been updated according to an email from vfs when I asked them (they don't offer any help by email just want me to call passport helpline in UK).

"Please provide one of the following: • visa or resident permit (or colour photocopy) • tax record eg a letter from a tax authority • educational record eg school report • employment record eg official letter from your employer • letter sent to you from a central, regional or local government department • medical/health card • voter’s card • immigration documents."

No bank statement or drivers licence accepted??

    Thanks

  3. Just done my online report this morning 11 Dec (Phuket), my due date was 21 Dec. Approved in under 30 minutes.

Normally like you say its just a few days but once it was longer for some reason. Don't think you need to worry yet, you could call direct to Phuket if you can get through, but I would contact the volunteers to check for you  ( piv-phuket dot com ) or easy to do in the drive thru if you can get there.

  4. I've used Andalab, its on Yaowarat Road the same road as Vachira Hospital in Phuket Town. opposite side of the road closer to the junction where the old tax office was, near side entrance to Merlin Hotel.

    086 4705043, 076 213808

Fast and good prices. They do individual tests or a package, I had a package that included blood test, urine tests and xray a general check up, less than 1000 Baht I think.

    Dentist here. ????

My wife and I go to Rang Hill Dental Clinic.    http://www.ranghilldentalclinic.com/

They're not the cheapest but all the work we've had done has been very well done, including root canal ... and I checked the before and after x-rays.

Any crown you get should fit as well as any other. The cheapest will be a non-precious metal, silver-coloured crown. Since the tooth is 27 (near the back on the top left) nobody will ever see the crown and you can save money there.

If you want to save the tooth, get the root filling and the cheapest crown. If it's done well you may have it for the rest of your life.

If you have an x-ray and can send me an image, I'll be happy to give you an opinion. You can pm me.

    ????

    Thanks Tapster,

The first dentist I went to was 15K for the crown which was all ceramic, which I read was not the strongest and was less bothered about the look as its at the top back, I think they tend to do more cosmetic work than anything. Called around a few and prices were quite similar with the exception of Vachira but they had a 12 month wait list.

So went to phuketdndental and had the first half (1of2) of the RC on Wednedsday, she said it was deep and some gum had come into the space. After she said I needed some extra surgery to trim the gum/bone for the crown, from googling later I think this would be crown lengthening but will confirm at my next appointment next Tuesday. I was in no pain before, for a couple of days after the area was sore, still is a little. I maybe have some minor pain in the opposite side, sometimes I think jaw sometime upper area could be me though looking for problems that don't really exist and being over sensitive to it.

Other than the look is there any advantage to having a crown with some gold content? obviously the cost is a consideration as its not cheap but don't want to regret the decision in a couple of years time. I also intend so space out the time between RC and crown a bit.

  6. Went to phuketdndental, they said pretty much the same as the last dentist. prices as above except they might change the crown recommendation after they start, 8k,12k,18K depending on the material, cheapest I think is metal but tooth coloured so porcelain? the higher prices have some gold content. All have 2 year guarantee, not really sure what the differences are and if its worth while, not something I have any experience with.

  7. I found a recommendation for phuketdndental, near Tesco Lotus, can't seem to find the post again now.

Called them and was quoted 10K root, 5K post, crown 8K, they will do consultation free if I already have the xray. The good thing here is the dentist to do root canal is there every weekday, other places seems to be just certain days.

    Anyone used them before? Thanks

sounds like a scam to me - dentist needed specialist for xray??

I was quoted 1,000 for temporary fix, scale & polish, followed by 1,000 next day to do real filling, but she could not get the bleed to stop after she cleaned the damage and was concerned the temporary filling would not hold, so paid only 1,000. The other branch they sent me to said the bleed had stopped, they tightened the temporary fill and added another layer, did xray and consult for 300 Baht.

You may find that With a little luck the “temporary filling” actually lasts 5-10 years or more without complication.

If there is no significant sensitivity/pain after the new filling, it may be worthwhile considering no further action unless circumstances change.

I thought a temporary filling was just a few weeks, not much pain just a little ache but maybe from the work?

Root canal at Mission is about 4k.

They quoted me 8-12K for root over the phone, 500 for dentist to review my xray

It won't cost much to get a second opinion. If the tooth is salvageable then you'll get away with a normal crown (I paid 8000 baht just last week in Chalong).

Looking for recommendations, but where to try but don't really want to pay 300-500 baht each for a few opinions. Theres too much choice and can't seem to find many recommendations.

    Thanks for replies

  9. Never really had any dental problems before, but today a piece of my tooth broke off, no real pain.

The Dentist at first said it could be filled, but as she cleaned it all out it started to bleed, She put in a temporary filling and sent me to there other branch to the specialist for xray and checking re possible root canal.  They said I need root canal (tooth 27 upper molar I think), post and crown. 10K for root canal, 5,000 for post and then 15,000 for ceramic crown. I have a copy of the xray.

I'd like to shop around a bit so looking for recommendation to trim the price a bit. Mission Hospital quoted a price range starting a bit less but upper range higher. Another local dentist was 12k for the root, 5k post and 10k crown (silver coloured though). Phuket Town/South areas are better.

Any one else I should try? Thanks

  10. Thanks for replies, as its quite a new vaccine I was just trying to find out a bit more.

Dengue was medically confirmed, it came on very suddenly. Next day at the hospital the nurses doing the initial obs sent me straight to ER wouldn't even let me walk. I had to return every day for 8 days for blood tests, ER wanted to admit me if platelets went below 100,000, the normal Dr was ok with me resting at home although it was close when platelets reached a low point of 52,000. For the next week or so was tired and weak but slowly recovering. I understand its worse if you get it a second time, so was looking into this vaccine.

  11. Recently had Dengue for the first time,

I asked at the hospital about the vaccine and was told I could have it in about 3 months, costs around 10,000 for a course of 3 shots.

Its only about 65% effective but I think I read that if you do get it again it should be milder after the jab (?).

Now I am being extra vigilant about getting bitten in the first place, but that will probably wear off in time.

Anyone had the jab or can offer any advice? Thanks

  12. Yes I am asking about TM30 Notification form for housemaster (address registration), not TM47 90 day report which I already do online.

If you can do it through the drive thru then that's another backup option, Phuket immigration website says it can be done at drive thru service with completed TM30 form, passport + copy, register home copy, ID card copy of house owner. I read another report that also said only passport with old TM30 receipt was needed, same as stevenl said.

Not tried to do online yet, if it works ok this is the best way. Had only a quick look and it does not seem that difficult, most of it is in English on the first page anyway. The only thing I saw unsure of was accommodation Name, not sure what I would put here if its a house without a name, and register at - I guess it means Phuket immigration office? And not sure what if any documents are needed to upload?

No. You register the address with the URL I posted. Then once have user name and password you register yourself at that address. I have registered addresses for 4 homes without any fuss other than enter the details in the web site 'new user' process. To be honest it's not very user friendly but once you get the hang of it no problem.

Thanks, should make things easier to do online like the 90 day. I don't need to update the address yet, so I will try to register first ready for when its needed. Should I register as if I am the houseowner/landlord, using their name?

  14. Last did a TM30 report about 2 years ago, have not been away since. Its a rental and at the time I did it myself with a poa and tax stamps on behalf of the owner/landlord.

First, are Phuket requiring us to register the address again if staying out of Phuket for a few days (not overseas)?

If they are, is the already completed poa still valid so I can just register myself again, or will they insist on a new poa and tax stamps etc etc.

    Thanks.

So can someone clarify if the proposal is for only the original visa application (new applicants) or if it would apply to those of us who are now on extention of stay?

Who knows for sure as yet,

Ubon Joe says "It is only for OA long stay visas applied for at a embassy or official consulate in you home country.

All information we have is that it does not apply to extensions of stay based upon retirement or any other extension."

And "Phuket Immigration Chief Col Kathathorn also confirmed that the new insusrance requirement applies only to Non-Immigrant O-A "retirement" visas."

Non O A is a long stay visa applied for outside the country that gives a 1 year stamp on entry http://www.mfa.go.th/main/en/services/4908/15385-Non-Immigrant-Visa-"O-A"-(Long-Stay).html
