  1. I have land as collateral on a loan that the borrower is unable to repay anytime soon. We are on speaking terms and looking for a fair, quick solution. One idea is to auction the land so is sold at market price as proceeds over what I am owed will go to the borrower. Have tried one very large real estate/ management company and they are not interested. I'm wondering if private auctions of this type happen often in Thailand? Any constructive/meaningful comments most appreciated.

  2. I have a few small appliances, bought in Thailand that have plugs with 2 round prongs. These plugs also have a hole which is obviously for a grounding prong. Is it possible to buy a prong to make the Ground? If so, any idea where? I have tried largest electrical contracting shop in Phuket and my mee.

It was 13° in CM this morning, a little cooler in the suburbs.

After 10 days of riding in southeastern Myanmar, I love the wonderfully cool winter weather here.

How was SE Myanmar? I am planning either Yangon- Mae Sot or Yangon- Myeik/Kawthoung it I can find accommodation. Any info most appreciated. Thanks

  4. You could just take off the wheel(s), and the seat post, loosen your stem and turn your handlebars to one side. At that point it will fit in the back seat of a normal small sedan. At least mine do, size 54.

Thank You!! Have you put in a taxi like that?

My pleasure! Yes, I have. But it was first put into a bike bag.

  5. You could get a bike box. Much better protection and you will sign a damage waiver anyway.

Most shops give boxes away for free, will pack for small charge. One guy I know "rolled on" a road bike for years on widebodies with no problems. It finally got crushed, no compensation.

That was an idea, but how do I get a bike in a box to the airport? Can't imagine fitting into anything except full size SUV or pick up. Also wondering is a bike shop in Silom area would box my bike and take to a PO and send EMS.

I'm not talking about a flash bike so a bit of transport rash not an issue.

Thank you very much for any thoughts.

    Have Fun!!! Mike

  6. I will be picking a bike up in Silom area of Bangkok next week and sending it to Phuket. I am thinking of taking it to Don Muang and rolling it onto Nok Air. Question is how to get from Silom to DM? Can I get a taxi (or pick up truck) that could take the bike? If so, how to order? Thx, Mike

  7. Thank you! Any obscure documents required (other than the usual)? Hate to walk in there unprepared.

Pretty sure these are all that are required.

    Passport

    Certificate of Residence

    Alien Certificate (red book)

    Tabien Baan

    Photos x 4

If you are hoping to have it all done in one day, I think it would pay to go first thing in the morning.

Thanks again!! Not sure what a "certificate of residence is". Would the blue book and Tabien Baan cover it?

"Certificate of Residence" is what is written on the cover of your blue book. It's a bit confusing to call it the "blue book" though because the replacement books you will get from now on will be white. Also Tabien Baan's are often referred to as blue books.

One of my friends calls his the "See page 21" book. That always makes me laugh.

In any case yes, bring both of those. Plus the red one.

  9. I'm assuming you've got a small furniture finish repair job to do. If you can't find 00 or 0000 steel wool, you might try lightly wet-sanding with 400 or 600 wet/dry sandpaper, which you should be able to find at places like HomePro.

    Good idea- thank you

  10. Any supercheap, any supermarket, most hardware shops ... not difficult to find ..

Thank you. If we are talking about the same thing you are a better shopper than I. I need the fine steel wool to lightly sand finished wood, not pot scrubber. (may try scotchbrite if no luck with steel wool). So far have looked at one small supercheap and Thai Watsadu and hoping to shorten the search.

  11. I had same problem..got a cleaner in and she used a small blue and white jar called ezy clean 40baht try supermarkets. It's a paste, she covered the door and left it for 30min and used steel wool to clean came out like new. As all glass differs if that doesn't work a new door is the go. After the money you have spent you could have replaced it 3 times over.

    Steel wool doesn't scratch it.

Any time you use an abrasive and elbow grease to clean glass, you run the risk of scratching it. The steel wool may not scratch it, but particles of the stuff you're trying to get rid of may be hard enough to scratch the glass.

And here in Asia, where counterfeit and copycat products abound, that "3M" scouring pad may actually be a "3N" brand, and it may have sand particles as the abrasive.

Any idea where to buy steel wool in Phuket? I'd like to do some very light sanding on finished wood.

    Thx
