  1. I am trying to come up with good solution to mark a "dropoff" in a fairly shallow pool so that bathers don't stumble off without knowing. Obviously this should have been thought during construction, oh well.

A floating line is clumsy so I am wondering about how to mark underwater. Could drain the water level low, but would like to minimize downtime for the pool.

    Your suggestions welcome.

  2. So, the question is, "At Thai Law, do you need a WP to perfrom volunteer work in Thailand, or not?"

The question was "Does anyone know of a list of volunteer organisations in phuket?"

That's true, Peter, but we would not want a member working illegally here, and risking a fine, gaol and deportation, all because they were "volunteering" would we? smile.png

Good Grief!!! You don't need a work permit if you are Thai do you???? The thread interests me as my wife would like to do volunteer work with young children. Get off this whining about work permits and let the thread roll on!

  3. My sixteen year old child, very active with sports in school, has been having chronic foot pain and occasional knee pain. Shoes have been changed with no positive result. Orthotics have NOT been used. Can anyone recommend a doctor in Phuket for a visit?

  4. I'm looking to buy some varsol solvent - nam mun gat - and have only found in 18 litre containers which is far more than I need. Anyone know of where to find in one or five litre packaging?

  5. Thank You RKASA !! Got the DWR 112 and is just what I have been needing for too long.

Do some research and know where the tower you are trying to use is located and whats between you. It is a usb aircard so put it in a laptop and travel from tower to home and spots in between - find out how weak it really is and where. Take the laptop to the roof top and other places around the home to see if it works better - you may not need much ant. or lots of ant.

My air cards don't work when connected to usb cables or hubs - only in my 3g router and the PC or a laptop itself. I have a router dlink DWR-112 which has a usb port for an aircard on the top and it can be located up to 100 meters by cat5 cable from the PC or used wireless - mine has shown a good range of up to 75m WiFi and that was with three brick walls. It will dial out automatically for internet if anyone on the LAN uses internet and disconnects after 3min of no internet is in use - in the mean time the LAN is still up and you can file share print share etc. as it provides full secure wifi and 4 ports for the LAN.

I am not limited to a few devices like many of the mifi's do. It is a real router with WAN LAN ports and wifi. So maybe depending on where around the home is the best signal - just put the router there and remote the power to a convenient location if need be - then you can (if needed-rarely) reset the router by cycling the power or at least just turn it off. You can talk to and control it from your browser as far as port forwarding, DNS, wifi passwords etc etc. You can also just unplug the air card from it and leave home with it. I have mine working with both dtac and true aircards just fine.

Thank you- sounds like the router is exactly what I am looking for. I tried a year ago when CAT went 3G but my computer shop said nothing would work. Nice to have a model number to work from.

They stock these at lotus (here anyway) about 1400baht for the router - there are a few other brand and higher end models of d-link too, but this one was about the cheapest. It also has share port which allows printers and drives plugged into the other usb slot to be shared accross the LAN but you will find only the storage devices work for this if your on win7 >

  7. I live along a dirt track in Koh Kaew and my mail service has steadily gone downhill over the past two years. I now get NO mail delivery to my house- EMS included. I have had credit cards and other items returned to sender. It is necessary for my wife to go in person to the main post office to get our mail. No real excuse except they have a new delivery boy who I guess doesn't want to get his motorbike dirty. Unreal.

  8. Anyone know where to buy tahini in Phuket and/or what it is called in Thai? Hoping to avoid unnecessary comments, it is a food made mostly from sesame seeds.

  9. It is co -owners who have the right to vote. The name on the Chanote.

    Lessee cannot vote.

    Thank you.

If ,in your case ,the developer is controlling more than 50% of the vote -then this must be reduced (such that it is no more than the sum of all the other votes)

By law it is the co -owner who pays the fees. The Condo . Act says nothing about tenants.

Also the leases are only good for 30 years. Not 30 ++

  10. The management of a condominium where I own a unit has been hijacked in an extraordinary general meeting by the developer. The developer exercised voting privileges of units that were sold on 30 ++ years leases. The lessees have been voting their units in AGMs for 12 years as well as paying their own condo fees.

My questions seems to me to be straightforward, but I have not been able to find the answer, either in this forum or from "our" lawyer who cannot (will not?) provide the answer:

Who can vote the leasehold units- lessor or lessee?

    Any enlightenment most appreciated.

  11. I have a 7 year old avocado tree that has been producing well for the past 3 years. About two months ago I noticed spotting on the leaves. The fruit productions seems down and the fruit are smaller, but was thinking maybe a bit off season. Any ideas and cures, preferably organic, but open to all options will be much appreciated. I have tried a search on the internet, but no luck so far.

  12. Hey Mike and Jeff,

The Rider's Cafe on the corner of the moat has a couple of maps (have them on my desk right now!) that document this area really well, especially if looking at the off road routes.

There is the GT-Rider.com "Mae Hong Son - The Loop" map, and there is also the RideAsia.net "North Thailand road and off-road". The latter looks especially good!

I haven't ridden any of these personally yet, but there's a few of us looking to do it as soon as the weather gets cooler too.

Wow- that is an eye-opener! Looks like a decision to be made at Wat Chan.

    Paul

    Paul,

I've never used the Rider's Corner maps but I did use their GPS tracks for my last 5 day adventure off road. It was indispensable. If you're staying on-road, either GT-Rider or riders Corner are fine. I find GT-Rider easier to read and carry on the road.

I don't know what made me re-read the subject line of this thread but it says "On road ..". I'd like to change and confirm my first answer to the OP. There is NO way to get from Samoeng to MHS on road. The last section from Samoeng to Wat Chan has about 30 kms of steep, rutted, dirt roads. From there you can take a nicely paved road out to the main road to Pai. Any other route to MHS involves much more dirt.

  14. I spoke with the staff as they were closing and they didn't know where the new location would be. They said check on web site, I just did and Phuket not listed

Another question in the hardware category...the True value Hardware store underneath Homepro has a product I need. When I went there last month it was gone due to some remodeling. Anyone have any idea if they will be back at that location or have they moved? Thanks in advance

  15. I haven't done that exact trip yet myself but I plan on doing it sometime in the next few months and have done similar trips in the area. From my research there appear to be few villages on the road from Wat Chan to Mae Hong Son, but there are 2 or 3. I've heard that the govt is improving the road, but that doesn't always make for better cycling while the work is being done. It's 100kms from Wat Chan to MHS (85 kms on dirt trails) and might be do-able in one day by strong cyclists. There are definitely no formal lodgings between the two towns but a homestay should be available in the villages in between. A sleeping bag and a pad would definitely make for a more comfortable night.

Wat Chan has a couple of dumpy guest houses in town. The nicest place to stay is a two-cabin guest house outside of town. It's one km down the road on the way to Pai. And it's a long, very hard day from Samoeng to Wat Chan.

    Good luck.

Thank You! We are in no hurry, but do like a cold beer(s) and a place to sleep!

  16. I am planning a ride in late Nov, starting in Samoeng heading west to Ban Chan and continuing on to Mae Hong Son or somewhere on highway 108. There seem to be a fair number of villages up to Ban Chan but from there on my map doesn't show much. Any info or tips much appreciated. Wondering if a sleeping bag and/or mossi net are necessary, among other things.

    Thank you

  17. Avocados will grow in Phuket- I have done it. They do need well drained soil and not easy to produce fruit. I have a super star tree, grown from a seed and fruited after 4 years (no other flowering trees at the time). This past season got 150+ yummy avocados; they are not large and have rough skin similar to Haas. I have two other trees that have flowered, but fruit did not develop to maturity. Have tried to graft from my super star but am 0 for 8 with seven stitches and a doctor bill. I have growing two grafted 4 year old trees that have not yet flowered and seven one year old grafted trees- time will tell. Oh yes- pointed end UP when trying to sprout in water. Can't see how to attach a photo- I use a computer as well as I graft fruit trees. Good Luck!!
