  1. I have a few tiles (4x4") that have come loose in my pool. Fortunately close to the surface level so easy enough to lower pool level and replace. I am wondering if there is any special kind of mortar I should be using. This is a small job, but does cause a leak that I would like to correct. Thank you

  2. Not to get too far off track, but it's just worth the time and BS to get DL in Phuket. My renew will be in NST while visiting the MIL. No wait, and no BS.

Did my renewal in Phuket a month ago- in at 08:00, an hour relaxing reading a book outside. Video at 10:00. Out the door at 11:35 with 6 year less 3 days license. Wish all the BS in life could go so well.

  3. Yes, the visibilty is quite bad this morning. Past few days were clear, surprised when I looked out over Kata this morning to see so much haze. And it seems to be worse now, 4 hours later.

This is by far the worst at my place. Wonder what the airport is like?

  4. You may be disappointed when I tell you that bananas do not grow on trees. So, each banana plant will have only one stalk of bananas, but may have from 6 to 12 "hands" on that one stalk. Bananas are a large tropical flower that blooms once and then dies.

All bananas are female and the seed pods are the fruit that you eat; they do not contain mature seeds because there are no male plants.

The banana plants reproduce by root shoots. These must be removed from the mother plant when they are about 1 meter in height. The shoots can be planted about 2 meters apart to grow into new banana plants.

It may take about 6 months of growing from a new shoot for a banana plant to produce a flower, depending on the type.

Once the banana plant has begun to produce a flower, it will take about one month for the flower to fully ripen and the seed pods to begin to grow. The seed pods (bananas) can take from 2 months to 6 months to fully ripen. It depends on sun, rain, water, drainage, soil nutrition and the individual type of banana plant.

Once your plant has produced a flower and the bananas are ready to pick, cut the plant down at the base and lay it among the other banana plants to provide nutrition to the soil.

Bananas prefer a lot of water, but do not like to stand in water. They must have excellent drainage. Banana plants will drown and die if they are left sitting in water for more than one week.

My bananas seem to grow more quickly during the rainy season, regardless of the fact that I give them the same amount of water during the other times of the year.

There are many delicious varieties different colors and flavors here in Thailand. You should taste each to find your favorite flavor. If you have a neighbor with the type that you like and they may give you the young shoots for free.

Some of my bananas do have seeds and they are all the gluay nham wa (sp??) variety. Sometimes from the same plant one "stalk" will have seeds and sometimes no seeds. I have heard different theories including cross pollination from "wild" bananas, but from what you have written above it seems they don't pollinate? I have a new gardener and he says it is more to do with the age of the plant. I have actually started culling the gluay nham wa (sp??) variety but a shame as they taste great and easy to sell.

  5. I have a 5 year old solar hot water system consisting of a 250 litre storage tank and two glass panel collectors. The tank has a fairly large hole in one end and seems to be unrepairable. I've had one company, Monosun, have a look and they want to replace the entire installation which seems a shame as the collectors work fine. Anyone know of a company that might have the storage tank? The name on the outside of my tank is SolarComfort. Thanks

  6. Single is THB 1,900. Multi within one year is THB 3,800 (according to the Immigration website).

Correct for regular re-entry permit applied to extension of stay or visa. But this topic is about Permanent Resident re-entry permit.

I really am looking for a comment from anyone who actually has the experience to correctly answer the following:

My question- is it necessary to apply for the re- entry permit in the province of residence or can it be done elsewhere?

    Thanks in advance

  7. I am sure that if you were to undertake a search of this forum you would find clear info on which embassies/consulates in adjacent countries were best for tourist visas and which were definite no-noes.

Why didn't you bother to obtain a suitable tourist visa from the Thai Embassy in Madrid before you set off on your travels to this part of the world? You would then have spared yourself all the hassle which you are currently enduring!

Thanks Dad, that was very useful.

  8. I have a Samsung Series 6 "Smart" TV and so far am unable to play AVI files.

I am not sure why you have a problem

On my Samsung Series 6 Smart TV I just plug in the usb drive

The TV recognises it, and offers a menu of what to play

    All

    Photo

    Video

    Music

Click on your choice and a menu of folders and or files will appear

Click on the one you want.

AVI, MP4 MKV etc all supported

even films with DTS sound track

No programming or conversion required biggrin.png

Thank You!! That inspired me to work more on the story. it seems that when many movies and music were downloaded onto the hard drive I was using something went wrong- most of the avi files show the message "the selected file is not currently supported". The tv plays avi files with other storage devices with no problem.

    Thanks again

PS when I saw the subject of this thread I knew it was for me!

  9. Probably not going to be Fagor specific and doubtful to be honest if it needs to be but Keehin on the bypass has a few decent techs that would be able to sort that out. You'd have to go along with a basic descriptions of the problem and a couple of pictures and a map to your location and I bet they'd be able to come and take a look for you.

Thank you- will pay them a visit

  10. The kitchen in my house has a Fagor dishwasher that has started flooding and pouring water on the floor. I understand that the Fagor company in Spain is out of business; there is still some sort of Fagor office in BKK that has given me the contact for a technician in Phuket. The guy has been here 3 times, changed a pricey circuit board and still the same problem. Anyone out there had any luck with Fagor servicing?

    Thank you.

  11. I have a Samsung Series 6 "Smart" TV and so far am unable to play AVI files. (They work fine on my computer). I'm not great with computers, etc. so have not yet tried any major reprogramming of TV. Certainly not looking forward to converting AVI files into something TV can use. Hoping someone out there has an easy solution.

    Thank you.

  12. How sad that dead and therefore alive seem to have to relate to something as cosmically meaningless as the number of tourists in Phuket. If anyone wants to experience something Totally alive simply walk through the jungle on one of these hot and steaming days. The energy given off by incredible growth as life springs forward is tangible and very real.

Before giving a sarcastic reply, why not try the walk first??
