  1. It is always difficult to know where to invest or indeed buy a property just as a holiday home in Thailand. Variables range from property appreciation, rental returns to your own personal preference as to where to be located. As a seasoned expat who has traveled across Thailand, Koh Chang always catches my eye on a number of fronts. For starters, it is one of the largest islands in Thailand and with new road links, it is a comfortable drive from Bangkok and Suvarnabhumi airport. I also notice the Trat airport, just 20-minutes from the island, has been earmarked as an International airport. The island itself offers so many things to do, from sandy beaches, trekking, nearby island hopping, fishing to eating out - yet retains a rugged charm due to so much of the island being a national park. I spent three months on this island during much of the pandemic in early 2021 and loved every moment with my family. Tourist Demand Pre-Covid the largest visitor group to Koh Chang was domestic, although the International market had been growing year on year as more people started to discover this island. The fact Bangkokians and those in Chonburi - like Pattaya - can drive to the island (there are regular car ferries continuously), makes it a popular weekend getaway. Property market Unlike other more saturated island markets, like Samui and Phuket, Koh Chang is still in growth and developing. On Koh Chang you can find developments like Siam Royal View, which is just 5-minutes from the ferry and a beach fronted development. There is also a range of property types from villas for all budgets to condominiums now starting to appear. It makes for an interesting investment opportunity.
  2. Bangkok, Thailand (September 2021): Aetna Health Insurance (Thailand) Public Company Limited, Thailand’s largest health insurer according to the Thai General Insurance Association, launches “Platinum+” - an enhanced version of its best-selling Platinum plan. The enhanced plan provides greater hospitalization coverage, more coverage options, premium-lowering deductibles, and includes a complementary vHealth telemedicine service. In addition to the features of the existing Platinum plan, the “Platinum+” plan will include: Four optional, inpatient deductibles (THB 30k, 50k, 100k, or 200k) that will lower the cost of insurance premiums by up to 60%, without compromising on coverage levels; Maximum benefit of THB 3m for an injury or sickness per disability plan to meet new requirements for Long Stay Visa holders; and An optional, outpatient benefit of up to THB 1,500 per visit per day, affords a more flexible way of accessing primary care at affordable prices Mr. Damian J. Delaney, Managing Director and CEO, Aetna Thailand said, “The Platinum plan is one of our best-selling plans to date as a nil deductible product designed for people who want access to comprehensive hospital care without having to worry about cost. The Platinum+ with deductible options is designed to further increase affordability and access to this premium product.” The core Platinum plan also includes access to vHealth, Aetna’s award-winning, proprietary telemedicine service accessible from both iPhone and Android devices. As one of the few health insurers providing such a service in Thailand, we have witnessed demand doubling to over10,000 users in just three months, and has been especially valuable to members during the recent lockdown. The service offers access to locally-licensed doctors, unlimited 30-minute consultations in English or Thai, e-prescriptions and a free nationwide drug delivery service. . Delaney added, “We’re seeing people becoming more health-conscious in the wake of the pandemic. Many of them have the misconception that top-quality health care is out of their reach. With the introduction of deductibles to our existing Platinum product, we can start to address this barrier to health insurance for younger generations in Thailand.” Aetna Thailand Your Partner in Health ..................................................... 7. Cross-border B2B payments are hardly a new thing - they have been a necessity since borders became a thing, with solutions potentially appearing as early as the Roman Empire... Cross-border B2B payments are hardly a new thing - they have been a necessity since borders became a thing, with solutions potentially appearing as early as the Roman Empire. However, with the ever-increasing speed of business and far more diversity in goods and services around the world, the need for a quick and reliable international payments solution has never been greater. Bizarrely, while there has been no shortage of innovation in cross-border customer payments in the last few decades, the business-to-business payments landscape has struggled to keep up. In spite of the fact that B2B cross-border payments are expected to be worth $35 trillion by 2022, there remain relatively few options available, and some of those are extremely outdated and inefficient. We have compiled this comprehensive guide to help you figure out how to optimise your B2B payments, allowing you to get an edge on those still stuck in the past. How do cross-border B2B payments work? We are going to assume that, if you are reading this page, you get that a B2B payment is one made from one business to another as a means of obtaining goods and services to improve your own business. In other words, one where the customer is not a typical consumer. The payment process naturally needs to be a little different because there are significantly more accounting issues to contend with. For example, goods and services purchased for the benefit of a business and not personal consumption can be labelled as a business expense and may therefore be taxed at a different rate, if at all. Domestic B2B payments can be easily settled since both parties are operating within the same financial structures. There are plenty of available methods available, which have progressively made things simpler and cheaper as the years have passed. Transactions originally conducted in cash and later with cheques can now be completed almost instantaneously using credit cards and online portals, all with minimum risk, fuss or fees. 11. Did you know? Like adults, children are also vulnerable to feelings of anxiety, stress, and sadness that are triggered by major events like the COVID-19 pandemic. And as an expat parent in Thailand, it can be heart-wrenching seeing them go through the motions that affect their mental and physical health. Also, not knowing how to talk to them about the current situation can leave you feeling hopeless too. Fortunately, our friends at Pacific Prime Thailand have given us 3 tips to help you talk to your child about the COVID-19 pandemic so they can cope better as the situation unfolds in Thailand. Read on and support your child today! 1. Ask open-ended questions and listen to their responses One of the first things you should do when you’re with your child is to ask how much they already know about the situation and what they think of it. You should also listen to their answers and note their behavior. Of course, your approach will be different depending on their age, as described below. Young children aged 3 - 7 Young children between the ages of 3 - 7 may be too busy learning about the world around them and being playful. This means they may not know or even think about COVID-19. As such, you can go ahead and ask about their thoughts on hygiene like washing hands, and perhaps stating the reasons why handwashing is good. This way, you are not introducing a fear or concern, but slowly feeding them best practices to avoid catching or passing on COVID-19. You can even do this by actually demonstrating the proper steps to washing your hands. However, young children can be inquisitive, which means that they might mention COVID-19 after hearing it on TV or from a friend or family member. If so, then you can ask this simple open-ended question: “What do you know about COVID-19?”. Depending on your child's response, you could introduce playful activities like drawing and other activities to open the discussion further. With this approach, you can easily break the subject of COVID-19 down and make it easier to understand without overwhelming them. More so, activities like drawing, coloring and crafting are powerful ways to help you answer their questions. Just keep things simple, have fun, and let them develop an interest on their own. This way you can guide them at their own pace and keep them happy at the same time. The aim as a parent is not to avoid a discussion on COVID-19 but to assist your child to understand the situation as it arises for them. Children aged 7 and above Children at this age will have a better grasp of language and understanding of people’s behaviors - especially from family members. They are more likely to notice if something isn’t right and raise a concern too. However, some children may not speak out and keep thoughts to themselves. This can be worrying and it is why you should pick up on this early on during their development. For older kids, you could ask: What is the latest news on the current COVID-19 outbreak? What can you do to protect yourself against COVID-19 and keep others safe too? By asking these open-ended questions and prompting a discussion, you are allowing your children to express themselves fully. Whether it’s right or wrong, you should acknowledge them and come to terms with what they think. After all, communication is a two-way process. Just remember that children should be treated according to their understanding of the world around them and be taught to remain thoughtful and calm in all situations. 2. Be truthful about the situation Your child has a right to truthful information about what’s going on in the world, and as parents, you have the responsibility to keep them safe from distress. However, delivering the truth to your child also means moderating what they are told. This is to ensure that they don’t become overwhelmed and form mental connections that are not true and/or incorrect. However, this can be difficult to avoid given how the world is connected through social media and news outlets that can carry mixed and false messages. For your child alone, it can be hard to harbor the information and pick out what’s exactly meaningful and correct. Nevertheless, with a strong bond between you and your child, you can help guide them and correct them along the way with proper discussions and insight. 3. Increase engagement by role-playing with your child Is talking to your child about COVID-19 not working? Perhaps putting theory into practice will make the subject more appealing for your child. Knowing that children can easily get bored, you can increase engagement by physically role-playing certain scenarios with your child so they can practice under your supervision. Children love to play so treat it as a fun and educational experience. You can even teach them basic first aid, i.e. performing the recovery position and how to call an ambulance, and more. Therefore, through physical practice and involvement, your child will likely develop new skills to help them prepare for a real-life medical emergency. And before you know it, your child will be mentally and physically prepared for anything COVID-19 related. Start role-playing with your child today! Need protection for your loved one’s health in Thailand? For many expats with loved ones living in Thailand, health is top of mind as the pandemic continues to unfold. This means making sure that you have protection in place in case you (or your child) fall ill to COVID-19 or need medical treatment for a health condition that has just sprung up.
