Yes, Thailand is a great place. But like any country there's the good, the bad, and the ugly. The Thai people is what makes this country so good to live in and the weather is great and it's cheap to live here. I think most retirees that are on pensions would not be able to live on their pensions in their home country .However with this fine weather there are a few draw backs like being careful when you eat out as bad bacteria grows at such a high rate in hot climates. Stay heathy and you will live a long and happy live here in Thailand ,I know I will.

Looking at the cost of living rises in the UK and many other countries, I completely understand that Thailand offers far better value than most when it comes to budgeting.   So for the pensioner expats it makes more sense to stay put in Thailand.

Jeez, just when you thought the bar couldn't get any lower.....

The bar is certainly set very low and I think that Johnson may just hang on.  It is hard to see any MPs stepping up to try and sort out this unholy mess. Certainly the usual subjects will be sitting on their hands waiting for someone gullible enough to put their hand up.  They will then all buddy up to them to desperately try to hang onto their cabinet posts.

Boris must have a self-healing foot, because he's still here and not even hopping. No staggering either, he strides straight through the made-up non-disasters over inflated by the haters.

I don't think there is anybody in the Labour Party with a bit of charisma, so Boris will stay safe even at the next election.

Time will tell.  As I said, it would certainly work in Labour's favour for Boris to remain as PM until the next election. I agree that there is a void of charisma in the Labour Party just as there is in the Conservative Party.  Charletons, one and all!

The truth may never be known on this case but one thing is for sure she wasn't 7 years old. Again we can only guess what happen to this young lady but with all the drugs, alcohol and condom wrappers she wasn't having a birthday party as there was no cake.

    According to the article...

"Scene found by police at The Emerald Terrace apartment building early on Tuesday morning was one of a sex, drugs and alcohol party with condom wrappers, an alcohol bottle and traces of cannabis found."

Really? Sounds like any teenagers bedroom in the western world.  Certainly matches my 18 year old sons. bedroom

That's the way it should be.

Hopefully the votes are respected, we wouldn't want a repeat of Labour and the Lib Dems behaviour after the Brexit vote where they tried their best to over-turn the result.

Let's see what happens at the next general election. A week is a long time in politics. I believe the deadline for the next GE is 2025. I'm sure that time will just fly by.

There will certainly be a lot happening between now and the next general election and quite a few musical chairs in the cabinet.  The best thing for the other parties would be for Johnson to stay as PM as he keeps on shooting himself in the foot.  Time will tell though as he staggers from one disaster to the next.

I hope that Starmer is replaced and that the Labour Party can find someone with a bit of charisma who can think outside of the box. All governments need a viable strong opposition.  At the moment none of the front bench politicians on all sides are fit for purpose.

Actually as I am writing this I have the news on in the background, as as all the VIPs  arrive at St Pauls Cathedral for the Queen's thanks giving service.  Thousands of spectators and most arriving are met with polite applause or clapping.  All very polite until Boris and his wife arrived and then the booing started!  Unprecedented at an event like this!

You can't blame them. Being a colony that the British promised to protect to a Chinese outlier that the Chinese promised to protect, promises were broken. A pity they aren't flooding the UK as these are the best brains, but Singapore makes sense for regional headquarter. Thailand wouldn't know a regional headquarters if it hit them on the head. The complicated rules and regulations for setting up here makes my head spin.

As an anecdote, someone from the BOI asked me if I knew any foreign businessmen and could I ask why they didn't set up their business in Thailand. The reply shocked the poor woman. "After 3 months there was no progress on my application in Thailand. I got a response within 3 days of applying in Singapore."

There are thousands moving to the UK and visas for them are being made easy to obtain.

UK does have a cap and has had for some while.

    https://www.ofgem.gov.uk/publications/price-cap-increase-ps693-april

I am talking about the cap that the countries brought in to deal with the current massive price rises.  By October my bills will have risen to  £290 pounds a month from £120 a month.  France put a price cap of 4% on energy companies as did other countries.

That is why the Government have been forced to make a windfall tax on the energy companies here and are now throwing money at the people to try to save their sorry (deleted).

  8. 8 minutes ago, Purdey said:

Someone please explain, how does adding a tax bring costs down? Won't energy companies simply add the tax to their products?

That is a fair question.  In France and other EU countries they capped the price increase from the energy countries that meant they couldn't increase it any more than the cap.  However the UK didn't do that which is why we have these eye watering increases.  Putting a windfall tax on them is unheard of for a Conservative Government but in desperation that is what they have done.

Whether they plan to put a future cap on the increases  remains to be seen and does go against normal conservative policy, but who knows with these clowns?  BP have said that they will be reviewing their North Sea operations but I have no idea what that means.

Johnson's government is starting to reek of desperation, but will it be enough to topple those gorging on the swill?  At least if Bojo goes there may be a very slight improvement.

Desperation indeed!  Still Jeremy Corbyn would be proud of his latest U-turn and the windfall tax!  Can't get more socialist that that.

I would love to see Bojo go, but not to a Labour Government  He should be removed by his own party (oops! don't say party!) but most of them around him are too gutless to do it and would be a poor replacement.  And that is the problem.  They are all spineless liars on one level as they continue to back the moronic Johnson.

    Stop lying .

Johnson won a landslide election because the opposition,  Labour  went against the will/vote of the British electorate

Lying?  Better speak to Johnson about that, it's his specialty, starting with the big one plastered on the side of the bus.  But I respect your point of view.  I have been a Conservative voter for for all of my life so get no pleasure from the chaotic mess that we are in now.  I would never support Labour, even when the ultra right wing Blair was Prime Minister, but it's hard to find anybody with an ounce of integrity in the Conservative party now.  Very depressing, no wonder there is so much anger.
