Oliver Dowden was one of Johnson's most loyal supporters but even he couldn't keep defending the lying, cheating despicable Prime Minister any longer.
Johnson won't resign and listening to the numerous press conferences he is giving, it is pertinent to note that not once has he acknowledged that the reason for the failure at the by-elections is anything to do with him. No doubt that there will be the inevitable plotting behind locked doors, but it will work much better for Labour and the Lib-Dems for him to remain screwing the Conservative Party from the front.

However, not only the newer malls and especially Maya proved a tough competition, but also it made some idiotic moves of its own. I remember dearly the food court of ten years ago in front of TOPS with free live music in the evening, but with the Chinese wave they converted it to something very fake where I never found anything that appealed to me. At the same time, parking started to be difficult, the main entrance once covered with small food/clothes stands became the domain of aggressive red buses, and there were no new investments. Venturing above the 3rd floor in the back of the building felt like visiting an archeological site, the bathrooms started to show their age. The traffic along Huay Kaew and the invasion of food delivery m/bikes taking every parking spot for scooters did the rest. I stopped going there even before Covid.
KSK had become a place to get depression, not distraction.
Does anyone know what will happen to the BKB branch there?
Nostalgia alert!
It was twenty one years ago when I first moved to Chiang Mai and rented an apartment in Rimping Condo. At that time my food shop was always at Tops in KSK or Central as we farangs called it. Tuk-Tuk was fifty baht each way with a ten baht tip. After my girlfriend (now my wife) moved in with me the Tuk-Tuk fare miraculously became thirty baht each way or fifty baht return, with the driver waiting for us.
But as I am sure many of you ex-pats will relate to, shopping became a whole different ball game with her arrival. Warorot market replaced Tops for all the fresh food although we still used supermarkets for meat and frozen stuff. So KSK was a once in a while visit that was eventually replaced by Airport Plaza. Once we discovered Rimping Supermarket we rarely went anywhere else, even though my wife never stopped complaining about the prices!

Cannabis is so readily available in the UK it is unlikely that anyone is going to rush over to Thailand because it is now legalised. Thailand has long been a country of choice for backpackers as drugs and cheap booze are, and always have been, readily available. This goes right back to the sixties. My first trip, (excuse the pun) was actually in 1969 as a continuation of my odyssey to India.
And that brings me on to another point about cannabis in general. Just about everyone I know have smoked it at some point. Many have enjoyed the odd joint over the years and still do. Smoking cannabis isn't just about kids today, most of the people I know who still enjoy it are drawing their pensions these days.

Yes, Thailand is a great place. But like any country there's the good, the bad, and the ugly. The Thai people is what makes this country so good to live in and the weather is great and it's cheap to live here. I think most retirees that are on pensions would not be able to live on their pensions in their home country .However with this fine weather there are a few draw backs like being careful when you eat out as bad bacteria grows at such a high rate in hot climates. Stay heathy and you will live a long and happy live here in Thailand ,I know I will.
Looking at the cost of living rises in the UK and many other countries, I completely understand that Thailand offers far better value than most when it comes to budgeting. So for the pensioner expats it makes more sense to stay put in Thailand.

Jeez, just when you thought the bar couldn't get any lower.....
The bar is certainly set very low and I think that Johnson may just hang on. It is hard to see any MPs stepping up to try and sort out this unholy mess. Certainly the usual subjects will be sitting on their hands waiting for someone gullible enough to put their hand up. They will then all buddy up to them to desperately try to hang onto their cabinet posts.

We’ve seen lots of it before, all wrong.
The votes have reached the number needed and there is a vote tonight (Monday). That is not to say he will not survive. Apparently he is offering MPs Knighthoods willy nilly to get the support he needs ????

Acceptance of a FPN is not the same as receiving a criminal conviction in Court and as such, Boris and the others will not have these matters appear on their criminal record.
Getting a FPN doesn't make Johnson a hardened criminal, that is for sure. But it was a criminal act and that is why the fine was issued. It also, more importantly, rubber stamped the fact that he lied to parliament, on several occasions, for which he has given several grovelling apologies. So who would trust the habitual liar about anything. As people have said before, his history of lying is legendary, even including, to the Queen.
The fact that Johnson remains as PM shows the depth of the sewer that politics in Britain has become. The Tories have a massive majority and many of the new MPs can thank Boris and to some extent Corbyn for that, gaining seats that were traditionally Labour. It will be interesting to see how many of them will be one term MPs.

I don't think there is anybody in the Labour Party with a bit of charisma, so Boris will stay safe even at the next election.
Time will tell. As I said, it would certainly work in Labour's favour for Boris to remain as PM until the next election. I agree that there is a void of charisma in the Labour Party just as there is in the Conservative Party. Charletons, one and all!

According to the article...
"Scene found by police at The Emerald Terrace apartment building early on Tuesday morning was one of a sex, drugs and alcohol party with condom wrappers, an alcohol bottle and traces of cannabis found."
Really? Sounds like any teenagers bedroom in the western world. Certainly matches my 18 year old sons. bedroom

Hopefully the votes are respected, we wouldn't want a repeat of Labour and the Lib Dems behaviour after the Brexit vote where they tried their best to over-turn the result.
Let's see what happens at the next general election. A week is a long time in politics. I believe the deadline for the next GE is 2025. I'm sure that time will just fly by.
There will certainly be a lot happening between now and the next general election and quite a few musical chairs in the cabinet. The best thing for the other parties would be for Johnson to stay as PM as he keeps on shooting himself in the foot. Time will tell though as he staggers from one disaster to the next.
I hope that Starmer is replaced and that the Labour Party can find someone with a bit of charisma who can think outside of the box. All governments need a viable strong opposition. At the moment none of the front bench politicians on all sides are fit for purpose.
Actually as I am writing this I have the news on in the background, as as all the VIPs arrive at St Pauls Cathedral for the Queen's thanks giving service. Thousands of spectators and most arriving are met with polite applause or clapping. All very polite until Boris and his wife arrived and then the booing started! Unprecedented at an event like this!

Politically biased. Let the voters decide how serious this was.
The voters have, as much as they can at the moment. The local elections showed the Conservatives got a a complete hammering, losing seats at a staggering rate.

Maybe you should take a look at the Sue Gray report. Partying until the early hours, people throwing up and even a fight between a couple of drunks. Not to mention the way the staff and cleaners were abused. Yes he offered a grovelling apology to them but only to try and save his sorry A**se.

You can't blame them. Being a colony that the British promised to protect to a Chinese outlier that the Chinese promised to protect, promises were broken. A pity they aren't flooding the UK as these are the best brains, but Singapore makes sense for regional headquarter. Thailand wouldn't know a regional headquarters if it hit them on the head. The complicated rules and regulations for setting up here makes my head spin.
As an anecdote, someone from the BOI asked me if I knew any foreign businessmen and could I ask why they didn't set up their business in Thailand. The reply shocked the poor woman. "After 3 months there was no progress on my application in Thailand. I got a response within 3 days of applying in Singapore."
There are thousands moving to the UK and visas for them are being made easy to obtain.

UK does have a cap and has had for some while.
https://www.ofgem.gov.uk/publications/price-cap-increase-ps693-april
I am talking about the cap that the countries brought in to deal with the current massive price rises. By October my bills will have risen to £290 pounds a month from £120 a month. France put a price cap of 4% on energy companies as did other countries.
That is why the Government have been forced to make a windfall tax on the energy companies here and are now throwing money at the people to try to save their sorry (deleted).

8 minutes ago, Purdey said:
Someone please explain, how does adding a tax bring costs down? Won't energy companies simply add the tax to their products?
That is a fair question. In France and other EU countries they capped the price increase from the energy countries that meant they couldn't increase it any more than the cap. However the UK didn't do that which is why we have these eye watering increases. Putting a windfall tax on them is unheard of for a Conservative Government but in desperation that is what they have done.
Whether they plan to put a future cap on the increases remains to be seen and does go against normal conservative policy, but who knows with these clowns? BP have said that they will be reviewing their North Sea operations but I have no idea what that means.

You are right that there are a fall of E.U citizens in the UK. Just look at the massive shortages in the NHS! Try to get to see a Doctor or a Dentist. Thousands have left the UK and moved back to their original country or elsewhere.

Desperation indeed! Still Jeremy Corbyn would be proud of his latest U-turn and the windfall tax! Can't get more socialist that that.
I would love to see Bojo go, but not to a Labour Government He should be removed by his own party (oops! don't say party!) but most of them around him are too gutless to do it and would be a poor replacement. And that is the problem. They are all spineless liars on one level as they continue to back the moronic Johnson.

Johnson won a landslide election because the opposition, Labour went against the will/vote of the British electorate
Lying? Better speak to Johnson about that, it's his specialty, starting with the big one plastered on the side of the bus. But I respect your point of view. I have been a Conservative voter for for all of my life so get no pleasure from the chaotic mess that we are in now. I would never support Labour, even when the ultra right wing Blair was Prime Minister, but it's hard to find anybody with an ounce of integrity in the Conservative party now. Very depressing, no wonder there is so much anger.

Why do people vote for a party with those incompetent people and that PM?
Part of it is obviously the crazy UK press. But anybody with a brain does not listen to that crazy press.
In a country with informed and educated people Boris wouldn't have a chance to get any important job.
The country was split down the middle by Brexit and the lies that people bought into by that. Hence Johnson won the election by a landslide. Even now that the lies are being exposed day by day, people still can't see it, or refuse to see it for what it was.

Not necessarily. Obviously he used his hands for the massage so could be that. Doesn't make it any less valid as it was still a very serious offence.
