  1. wow..talk about shoot the messenger.i am not the lawmaker.i do also agree that the law  needs refactoring as it is rather outdated, and i'd like to see this happen, however get fricken real, do you see it happening mate, really..do ya ??...i dont.therefore aside from being a  bunch of angry wingers and moaners what are you going to do. i have only read of one practical solution/course of action so far.

Wow you change your tune fast..

    You stated

there is no excuse, other than laziness and stupidity, for breaking it.there are avenues for working/performing/volunterring etc.. legally
So call us lazy and stupid when we point out that the laws simply dont fit or dont fit well to many categories (teleworking, self employment, trading markets for investment, etc) its noit lazyness or stupidity its rules and laws that dont fit the modern world.

How does the retired person ensure his 800k per year and not trade his stock ?? How is gambling not any business investment ??

The current definition of work covers everything you do from cooking breakfast to driving for the newspaper to following the markets, to cleaning your house, to walking the dog, etc.. If that doesnt seem like a joke and a 'dumb law' to you then I dont know what is..

Is it lazyness and stupidity to clean my house ??

    this sparring is pointless.

i hope you can all find solutions to your problems.

    later.

  2. Just thought this may make a interesting thread seeing as there have been so many about Thai wifes just latley.

I have been married for nearly a year now, and was courting the missus for 5 years. But I hear alot of stories about fella's getting married very quick. Not that I am saying there's anything wrong with it. But was wondering whether you think Thai women want to get married faster than Farang women? Is this just there traditional values? Or does marriage, seem less important to a Farang girl now days?

    Bang..........

depends on the thai women..we dated/lived together for 4 years before marriage.on the flipside some men come to thailand on tourist visas and marry hookers after 30 days.

  4. unfortunately the law is the law.the terms of it are available for all read, so there is no excuse, other than laziness and stupidity, for breaking it.there are avenues for working/performing/volunterring etc.. legally and again there is no excuse for not pursing the correct avenues, other than laziness and stupidity.it is an unfortunately anal situation but i dont think moaning about it will do a goddam thing.you can address the law or attempt to change it to your benefit, the latter option probably being an exercise in futility, so educating yourself on how to conduct ones activities lawfully is probaly the best SOLUTION to the winge.

So, you are a Doctor on holiday and driving in a remote area of Thailand. You come across a road accident with all the victims lying comatose or worse with blood pouring from them. So, if you are not lazy or stupid, you will ignore it and drive on, because of course, as proven by the Tsunami relief workers, it is a crime against Thailand to stop and help them. Do me a favour. Or according to your fantastic remedy, tell them not to die till you nip off for a work permit. Why do so many posters, post crap on this site?

The plain and simple truth is the law HAS to be changed to allow scenarios like the one above. It has absolutely nothing to do with laziness or stupidity. I know of a case, around seven or eight years ago, when a guy was apprehended while changing a light bulb in a bar. This helpful action was construed as WORK. If you take the law to it's word, then helping an old lady across the street is work as well. No Penelope, you've got it all wrong there.

i didn't create the laws. what the heck do you mean by I've got it all wrong.haha.

i see winging as pointless, and always look for solutions.what are your solutions ?my solution is to observe the laws because i cant see them changing.

your analogy is related to a spontaneous act of life saving or an on the spot decision, a little different to a jam or people conducting activities where a degree of preparedness or premeditation is involved.

  5. unfortunately the law is the law.the terms of it are available for all read, so there is no excuse, other than laziness and stupidity, for breaking it.there are avenues for working/performing/volunterring etc.. legally and again there is no excuse for not pursing the correct avenues, other than laziness and stupidity.it is an unfortunately anal situation but i dont think moaning about it will do a goddam thing.you can address the law or attempt to change it to your benefit, the latter option probably being an exercise in futility, so educating yourself on how to conduct ones activities lawfully is probaly the best SOLUTION to the winge.

  6. So how well does your wife take care of you

I have seen mates wives who do pretty well nothing. house is untidy doesnt know or want to cook. Gets some one else to do the washing

I guess I got pretty lucky as my wife likes to do pretty well every thing for me from washing me in the shower to shaving, picking out what I wear, always asking me if I want her to cook something, keeping the house and our two kids clean. She does get a alot of help from her mother of course. I have tried to do the dishes a few times but she refuses to let me.

I think her mother who is very old fashion in her ways has drumed this into her from a very young age to look after her man. She has been like this for 5 years so I cant see her changing

Mother treats her father the same way

My wife and I both have careers..so we do what can can mutually.Regarding housework, menial chores,etc.... we have hired help.

  7. This Thai ID card, is it issued for foreigners as well as Thais, and if so, does it indicate the type of visa you have...

It is a national id card for Thai Citizens.

If you attain Permanent Residency status (an Immigrant Visa) you get, and I quote from ThaiVisa".... an alien registration book will be issued, which is the equivalent of the ID card held by Thais."

  8. and Stickman

is that a fricken joke ? services to cheap sex commentary...hahaha.

Don't forget his glorious contributions to software piracy and fraudulent bar-girl "investigation" if the rumours are to be believed.

he cant possibly have a work permit for all his income generating activities outside being an english teacher.i wonder what would happen if the dept of labor turned up at his doorstep !

  9. 2 years ago Steven Seagull was having a holiday here and was Jamming with Add Karabow  <<< is the spelling correct ?playing blues in a club for fun  but the boys in brown did not arrest him....infact they are enjoying it too

well, he was here filming a movie, "belly of the beast"...so he would probably have been on a temporary entertainers permit that allows him to work in various locations...so he might have actually been legal !

  10. In a beer garden here, an American has been regularly jamming with a local band on stage. He does it purely for fun and, other than being bought the odd pint, receives no payment whatsoever.

Last night, men in suits ordered him to stop playing and pack up his gear. They then lead him away and drove off in a car to who knows where.

Considering he probably does not have a work permit, does anyone know what will happen to him?

Kind of unfortunate, but he should have known better.

  11. 5.Daytime activity that a TG would enjoy other than eating or sleeping

    stroll around Orchard road

go to Sentosa island by gondola

go to Zoo and Jurong Birdpark

    day trip to Bintan island(Indonesia)

hang out at Boat quay, Clarke quay at night..loads of restaurants, pubs etc....

    go to giant copper fountain

  14. Male, over 50, Swiss passport, married to Thai passport holder.

If I understand correctly, after 3 consecutive years in Thailand on a non-immigrant O visa (purpose: support of Thai wife) I shall qualify to apply for permanent residence (if that’s the correct term) and, if granted, thereafter no longer need to apply for annual renewal of the non-immigrant O visa.

What are the advantages and disadvantages of permanent residence, compared to a continuation of annual renewal of the non-immigrant O visa?

If during those initial 3 years on annual extensions of  the non-immigrant O visa I stay outside Thailand for 7 months each year, will I still qualify to apply for permanent residence?

    meshka

to be more precise, it is 3 non interrrupted 1 year PERMIT extensions.

then there is also a country quota.
