1. So funny - I asked at a meeting in early February why not go direct to 4G The answer was they have already bought their 3G EQUIPMENT BUT BUT BUT I said, You can't import technology that doesn't have a license yet! Ahhhhh - we'll buy it and keep it overseas Somehow I see no one speaking the truth. Thing is CAT if it was NOT part of a 3G project would actually disappear in a few years.

  2. I work with Satellite TV companies, hate them, but I;d go for JSAT - nice bloke there who speaks English for when you have problems.

Personally I have NO TV at home :) I do like downloading torrents though.

True is far more expensive than Astro - Astro people pretty smart,

DON';T get a bigger TV if you agree with everyone the True picture quality sucks, it will only make it look worse, the smaller the screen the better the picture!

  3. Have had great experience with Phaya Thai 2 - just up the road from you, delivery was great, small problem at birth they spotted, so he was kept in a incubator (I know that's not the right word) for a day,

I was there for birth, Caesor as first baby was a caesor as well in a tiny bush hospital wich chickens literally outside the door.

They checked us in at midnight, as that way we didn't have to pay a full day, I was expected to sleep in the room with my wife, a Thai custom I think is great. 'Cept I got my niece to sleep in there as well, better at looking after the wife than I was useless klutz I am.

We've kept going back to the hospital for various things, wife and my mum are both hypochondriacs, so my wife loves it when my mum comes and visits, BUT the hospital is very good for every occasion.

  4. Yes, a dongle is similar to a mobile, however if your having reception problems, remember the "antenna" in a dongle is inferior to one in a phone,.

So - 2 ways around this, get a 1 meter usb extension cord, stick it vertically above you, dongle on the end, you should get better reception.

Or - my preferred method, connect using your mobile phone. You DON'T need a dongle, it's just useful incase you get a lot of phone calls.

Not getting a phone call when using the mobile to connect in poor reception area, the internet drops and you need to re-log in.

With the TV Dish, if you use C Band you'll notice minimal rain fade, sadly minimal anything worth watching on C Band, J-Sat have some good solutions I seem to remember.

True uses Ku Band, and the reason rain causes the black out is the frequency of the beam and the size of the rain drops. I would add minimal anything to watch on True also, but then I work with TV often so it's the last thing I want to watch when home.

  5. Just went to the little Sky Diving Airport, it's talked about further up this thread I think

Place has improved a lot, they got another Farang manager, good bloke I think, and the swimming pool is finally working nicely.

Still a bit expensive compared to the resort in town, but the pool is cheap, we'll be back regularly.

  6. The Retro sports is a great looking bike. I was sitting on the original Honda version just 3 hours ago! Sadly not mine but belongs a mate of the wifes.

I am curious which bike was made first, not the first to sell in Thailand, but how long both companies have been making them.

The price is great by the way for either of them, Ryuko or Tiger.

I DO like the Tiger sidecar concept, by the way I was told recently sidecars (not salings) are not legal here? I found that hard to believe, anyone know? I met the owner or bloke with the most stock in Tiger when I first came to Thailand, very nice guy, who wanted to know if I could make MP3 player for his bikes.

I was based in Taiwan then doing silly stuff like that.

I wish some of the other 250 road bikes from China where available here.

  7. From a delightful young lass I met on the subway, with a LiFan handbag! So I asked her where

She sent me a email reply

" I asked my cousin and he said that the showroom is located at Rama2, opposite to Central Rama2. The Soi is called "soi Tha-Karm." The showroom is on the right about 1 km deep into the soi.

Lifan office phone number is 026912986 Lifan website is www.lifanthai.com "

  8. The wife has a few original old bikes, but she's thinking of one of these.

Interesting the "More agricultural" comment, she said to her it looked more like the original honda c and felt more solid.

    Price was 28 000 I think.

Interesting they used to sell the Tiger version and have switched to this.

Agree the sales girl was a twit :)

Given the original Hondo C is a collectors itme both here and China, maybe the Ryuko was first with this? Will do some more research.

    THANKS everyone - appreciate it.

  9. Local bike shop in Sawang has the retro Honda C looking bikes, plus a LifAn 200. I dropped by to see if they had the LiFan 250, but I noticed instead of being Tiger Retro Honda C's, they are Ryuko. The lady assured me they are the same bike, but I am a dubious person by nature.

Is it a re-badged Tiger? Is the Tiger Cub a re-badged Ryuko?

  10.
Sawang daen din changes...................Bjorn Steakhouse, small falang restaurant open on the main st.....heading towards Phung Khon east out of town, pass 2nd pedestrian bridge, and exactly at bus stop on left.....yellow illuminated sign "BJORN STEAKHOUSE".

Another nice bar open, around near UD niteclub, very close to Temple at the end of street, name of "YESTERDAY BAR"........only open in evening, and run by very nice Thai husband and wife who speak good english (teachers)

Big improvements at Chamdao Resort

Road in front of TESCO at present stage of upgrade to 4 lanes, badly needed.

Glad you found the nice yesterday bar, it's good isn't it! The bloke also deals in Antiques hence the old stuff.

Bjorn's sadly is very touch and go, been there three times last 2 weeks, each time the cook away, BUT if it's open, the pepper steak for 120 baht is good value!

The SMO disco has new talent, so worth a visit, we went a few nights back, good fun.

Stumps is Porn's coffee shop, well worth a afternoon visit and he DOES have Leo beer, err disclaimer, he did when Beer Ghain ran out and his supply didn't show up.

The German bar is closed again.

  11. I drove around those last week - fat farang on small motorbike.

I'd get claustrophobic there, BUT there may not be a lot to rent.

I see signs semi-regularly, I'd get on a motorbike and drive around, planty of cheap hotels and resorts to stay in, that you may never want to leave while you look.

6000 will get you an amazing place if they existed, price quoted above is more the norm.

  12. New pub in Sawang Daen Din

Same place as the other German who died, RIP, good spot, opens 10 am till very very late, after the local disco closes for the late night Thais.

Good cheap to not cheap expat food, ice cream for kids, coffee (real) 40 baht, beer local prices.

If your in the area, try it out.

Tartie - I think we need another visit, maybe after a trip to the pool?

Funny story, no idea if people remember the scene from Goldmember, the Austin Powers spoof, where the Dutch villain says "Farger" instead of Father confusing everyone.

I spent 5 minutes trying to work out how to say the blokes name.

The closest I come too is gargle hot coffee and try and say Roger without burning or drowning yourself.

    VERY nice guy

  13. For a year now we've been driving past a boring looking house with a sign in Thai, Chang Noi Swimming Pool, just before Baan Chang, half way between Nong Mex and Baan Dung.

Well we finally decided to if it was a swimming pool and turns out it a great spot. Very large pool built by a dutchman.

Though as Dar said, with only three families here on a hot Sunday, all Farang/Thai, why isn't the sign in English!

60 baht adults, 40 baht kids, very clean togs to rent, no one wanted to wear the wicked weazel bikini's I brought though.

All in all, if your in the Sawang area, great pool to go too, it'll be a regular with us.

  14. It's not a black Canyo though, something called a loyality project, same staff, coffee about 20 baht cheaper, not as good, too bitter, but I guess that's the price thing.

Went to the airport, GREAT PLACE!! Well worth the trip - head north of Sawang, somewhere about the 85 km to Sakon Nakorn you'll see a white sign pointing left,

Follow the road, not a great road. You can drive right up to the hangers, doesn't look like they want you too but they do!

Sunday's is the best day to see jumping.

  15. The black canyon at Lotus is open again, looks pretty much the same as before, I "think" what happened was a change of local franchisee, same staff though, no real idea, but it's back. And KFC seems to have had chicken available over SongKran which is unusual.

  16. Firstly Female Circumcision, a vile practise is done by "Christian" and "Muslim" communities in Africa, it's not a Muslim tradition just as it's not a Muslim one, it's a cultural tradition.

First I've heard of it practised in the South, given I work there on and off with communities, I find it odd that this is alleged to happen.

I'd be asking a lot more questions of your partner and the good advice above.
