  1. a competent locksmith can make you a key without the original key....it's known as 'key' impressioning, where they look at the marks the tumbler pins make on a blank key, and can devise the the ridge heights on the missing key.

My friend also lost his CBR key and the locksmith used impressioning to make a new key.

Any chance this locksmith is in bkk? If so do u have his contact details. Thanks

You'v been watching to many films. The pins leave no marks on a blank and how would you know the depth measurement of each pin travel. The barrel has to be dismantalled to find the depths but a run of the mill barrel, just stick a new one in, cheaper.

BUT, a Thai might spend two days fiddling with a file to make a key your way for a nice little earner but in the real world, doesn't work like that.

OP, new barrel at Main Dealer. Cheap and "NO" future headaches. :)

    hi

Ive just been down to the bike shop at Ratchayothin, I think it's some sort of Honda Dealership as they're all wearing Honda jackets. They just quoted me 2650 Baht for a new key set! Any ideas where I might find a better price as another poster mentioned only paying 800 Baht.

    Cheers

  3. the OP was as unprecise as possible. "2 aircons" (no size given), "run 2 a day 1 at night" how many hours is an "OP day"? hypothetically he could have run up a rather high bill with old aircons (assuming each 18,000 btu/h), 2 running 16 hours/day and 1 running 8 hours/night at lowest temperature setting day and night.

a rough calculation, worst case scenario, looks like this:

    40 hours/day each hour 2kWh x 30 days x 3.8 = ~ 9,000 Baht. add other consuming electric equipment 2,000 Baht = 11,000 Baht a month but nowhere near 19,000 Baht.

No chance, more like 6-7000 maxx

  4. Mate, you are being absolutely done.

    It sounds to me that your condo building are adding about 15 baht to your price per unit. I live in Supalai Park Pahon yothin and use about the same as you;

I have a flat screen TV thats on all evening; 2 computers; and 1-3 aircons running at certain times during the day and night(trying to take it easy as the aircon is what cains the most electric). My bill has never been over 4000 Baht, and I think it's 4-6 Baht per unit.

I can remeber last year when I was looking into moving to Sathon part of town. I visited a few of the newish condo's in the area, looked at the small print and some of them were charging 15-25 Baht per unit, most of which will be going into the landlords and the building owners pocket.

I would double check what you are paying per unit, because it's impossible that your bill should be this much. It should be about a fifth of that.

Hope you get to the bottom of this.

  5. A good start would be to introduce a congestion charge within the most congested parts of the city; i.e Silom, Sukhumvit areas, and to push on with the new BTS and MRT lines. Also, as in Singapore limit the amount of new cars allowed on the roads (easier said than done in Bangkok as we all know how much Thai's want to show off their newly aquired vehicles). 52,000 new cars on the road every month!? This just cant carry on or the whole city will be totally grid locked in a couple of years time, not that it isn't far off it now.

I hope Mr. Sukhumband can deliver at leat some of what he is proposing, as the past Mayor's have done very little if nothing at all to eleviate the traffic problems in this city.

  6. Thai's are just soo ignorant at times! No manners, whatsoever!

Excuse me? Did you say Thais are so ignorant and no manners? I'm not Thai but I call your comment foul, uncalled-for. For all I know Thais relatively polite people, wherever you go, inside the train, in the bus, everywhere, with few exceptions like this train incident where you based your inappropriate comment.

How long have you been here mate? 2 weeks?? Time will see you change your opinion on that especially in bkk.

  7. I totally aggree with you mate! I too have to do this visa run every 3 months or so, and I also look forward to it. I live in BKK and it's a nice change for a few days... good food, nice hotels, and of course the women are nice and white skinned too!!!

  8. I have been here since 2004 and back then I'd buy the BKK Post almost every day. It was maybe worth the 20 baht back then, but to be honest I'd rather keep the 30 baht in my pocket these days that there now asking for it. Waste of money and none of the real Thai news that is in the Thai papers (lets not let the farangs know whats really going on). Also, the classifieds section seems like it is just copied from the day before, so I'm not surprised no one is buying it.

  9. I know a really nice nursery/kindergarten on sathorn soi 1. I believe it's called Thienprasit or something like that. I worked there for 6 months and would recommmend it. They do accept that age group too. Go down soi 1 and its the first soi on the right, and all the way to the end.

    Cheers
