I arrived at 13.15 to get my approved extension stamp at room No1 to find this service has now moved to the main downstairs office adjacent to the Re-Entry Permit desk.  No queue number needed but 50 minute wait ensued as agent there with about ten Passports before me.   Thought i might do an early 90 day while i was there so went over to 90 day desk to be told closed for today as more than 200 people to deal with and only one officer working.

Seems to me much busier than usual as most people are aware that a two week 'holiday' coming up shortly and are crowding in to get things done before close down.

Anybody spotted an "official list of holiday dates" at CMI?

Yes, if the funds can be withdrawn at any time by you, but perhaps with a loss of interest.  What they won't accept are accounts where your funds are absolutely locked up for a fixed term of deposit.  In the U.S. the type of funds they will accept are commonly called "Certificates of Deposit" in that they offer higher interest than a regular savings account, but you lose all your accrued interest if you withdraw funds prior to the end of the term of deposit.  Those type of accounts are accepted by CM Immigration -- actually some would say they prefer them because these accounts don't have a history of many transactions, so it's easier for them to determine that the balance hasn't dipped below 800,000 baht during the required period.

If someone has a regular savings account and doesn't keep their bankbook updated regularly, then when they do, the entry will be a "consolidated" entry and doesn't give a true picture of what the account balance was on any given day.

Nancy, I'm surprised/ impressed that with the myriad of banks and different types of accounts available that immigration know which ones are OK for their purposes and which are not.

  3. I am about to show my lack of knowledge here, but:

I am thinking of opening a Fixed Rate/ Fixed Term  deposit account for my 800,000 baht visa extension money.

1: In the event of needing to use all or some of that money for emergency purposes (medical needs, repatriation ..) is that generally allowable, what penalties are incurred etc.

2: In the event of my death does that deposited money automatically become my Thai wife's or is there a need to make a Thai will.

I appreciate that each bank may have different rules but I ask before approaching a bank (who may well make up any answer they choose), as "forewarned is forearmed".

    Many thanks.

  4. Recently ordered a delivery of 5 cases of Leo, booked a slot within the "can buy beer" hours and agreed to pay the 30B surcharge for delivery at that time.

Delivery truck arrives with one case of beer only but still want the 30B surcharge. No reason given for the "only one case" situation, I refused to accept delivery and sent them on their way.

I also note that promo codes (eCoupon) cannot be used for:

    6.
eCoupon cannot be applied to alcohol, cigarette, tobacco, gift card, clubpack, energy drink, M150, sponsor, Red Bull, Ajinomoto monosodium glutamate, Birdy Iced Coffee, Breastmilk substitutes for children aged 0-3 years (from their website)

Wont be bothering with them anymore !!
  5. An update for anybody who may be interested regarding getting a Yellow Book at Amphur Hang Dong..

It took 3 weeks from the time of submitting the correct paperwork to being told to collect the Yellow Book.

Collection took about 1.5 hours due to the volume of Amphur generated paperwork (in addition to my stuff) that needed to be read and checked by a desk officer and then signed off by a supervisor. There was also a brief "interview" with the supervisor, as she did not speak English and I don't speak Thai I have no idea what the questions were!

One of the the 3 required photos I had provided with my application had been lost by them, told to bring another-one in the next day, yeh sure.

The Pink card was then issued without request on my part, cost 60 B, that took about 20 minutes.
