  1. As far as I know, the 90 day reporting HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH VISAS. You stay in the country for 90 days, you have to report. Thank you, Thailand.

In my case having a single entry ED visa, as well as having to do 90 day extensions I also have to action 90 day address reporting.

Your statement is incorrect, with a multiple non immigrant O visa you are required every 90 days to action visa runs and therefore 90 day address reporting is not required.

  2. To clear up any misunderstanding, I will be travelling to a Thai consulate/embassy on 19/20 May to obtain Multi non-immigrant O visa. My 90 day reporting attached to my ED visa is due by 27 May.

My previous passport entries are three multi non immigrant O visas and one retirement extension.

The reason I stick with multi non-immigrant O visas as opposed to retirement extensions is because it gives me an excuse to travel outside of Thailand every 90 days.

    Enjoy

  3. Bangkok bank stipulates that in order to open an account with them, you will either need to produce work permit or ED visa with confirmation from the school.

On their website they say you can open a savings account and get a debit card to use for shopping and ATM withdrawals without work permit or ED visa.

True, until you actually apply regardless of where the bank is situated in Thailand.

You don't necessarily have to open a Thai bank within a tourist area. I reside in Greater Bangkok and hold a Kasikorn account together with a Krungsri account which I opened some years ago when I resided in Pathumthani at Future Rangsit.

Certainly I would be very surprised if you have problem opening a savings account with Bank of Audhya (Krungsri), anywhere in Thailand.

  5. A friend of mine here in Bangkok is currently on his second double entry tourist visa.

Soon after he arrived in Thailand some months ago he got married to a Thai girl whom he'd known for a number of years and yes, wait for it, they are both now living apart although remaining good friends. He is calling it 'a temporary separation' and he is taking care of her financially.

He wants to apply for a multi non immigrant O visa and his wife has given him a signed copy of the house book and her ID card together with the other relevant documentation namely marriage cert, etc.

His question is, under the present circumstances, can he legally apply for this visa?

  6. I attended Lad Phrao beginning March to action my 90 day reporting and 90 day extension. Two different windows and therefore two different queue numbers.

Looking at both queue numbers, I was able to action my 90 day reporting first followed by the extension. The immigration official did in fact ask me if I had done my 90 day reporting before he would hand me back my passport with a further 90 days extension to which I replied yes, earlier in the day showing him my 'Receipt of Notification'.

I can see no reason as to why you cannot EMS your 90 day addressing reporting to Lad Phrao (I should have enquired at the time) as long as your have your EMS receipt and documents received by Lad Phrao. It seems an awful long wait to action both at immigration.

When my 90 day address and extension are next due beginning June, I will EMS my 90 reporting to wherever (CW or LP) regardless. It will certainly cut down the waiting time.

    Sanook.

  7. I have a True wifi connection and the Guardian Newspaper site works well for me in Bangkok.

Amazing time now 7.26 I also have a True connection and the Guardian and BBC are both unobtainable not sure what is going on but this has been going on for several days and with different computers.

Same here, both BBC news home and The Guardian sites unable to load plus a few other sites.

  8. I am currently on an ED visa which expires in July at the time my Thai language course completes.

At this time, will it be possible to obtain a double entry tourist visa from Laos and on expiry of this one obtain a further double tourist via, i.e. remain in Thailand for a further 12 months period?

My current passport visa entries are: multiple non imm O visa (marriage), Retirement extension, multiple non imm O visa (marriage and now divorced) and currently an ED visa as stated above.

The reason for this extended 12 months in Thailand is that I wish to travel extensively and return to further my Thai language studies after this period.

For further information, I have never had a 30 day non-exempt stamp or a tourist visa so therefore my question is, will I have any problems obtaining a double entry tourist visa followed by a further one?

  9. This will effectively kill the ED business. If for example a book author, receiving money from abroad. What is his status?

He or she cannot get a work permit because the business has nothing to do with Thailand. The same with thousands of different freelancers out there, not working locally.

What if you have your own savings but the form asks for "the person who is supporting you financially". Then if you have a person, for example your wealthy uncle in Italy, who does not speak English. They are going to call him and speak Italian?

"Then if you have a person, for example your wealthy uncle in Italy ..."

I'm sure that effect thousands as well. All these hypothetical problems may negatively impact some of those who are abusing the system, but those who come here for a year or two to actually study should not have a problem. If you are a student who has no intention of working here and who isn't trying to avoid the financial requirements for other visas/extensions, then you ought to be able to provide evidence of financial resources that will keep you afloat while "hitting the books."

The increased scrutiny is a result of all those who are abusing the system, not some arbitrary whim on the part of the government. Once again, everyone in the world who wants to stay long term in Thailand is not going to be entitled to. Laws are made to serve the best interest of Thailand, not to ensure that everyone in the world who want to come here will be able to.

How often on the Thai Visa forum do posters say they can't qualify for this or that sort of visa or extension and the "helpful" response is usually, "get a ED Visa."

You have to believe that someone in Immigrations reads at least some of these threads here and on other websites that offer suggestions on how to circumvent the rules, whether it's using ED visas when you have no real desire to study or fabricating your level of pension income on an affidavit or travelling to certain neighboring countries that allow serial visa applications ...

You can almost predict where the next crackdown will occur based on what strategies are endorsed here. Rather than blame the Immigrations people, it's the rule-benders who make it more difficult for all of us including those who are playing the game by the rules,

Almost certainly another area that will be "adjusted" before much longer will be proof of income and financial resources to support marriage and retirement extensions. Questions (and "solutions") about those requirements are posted here daily. Big Brother is watching.

    Exactly.

  10. The simple answer to your question is that I have read so many posts on ways to travel to CW that an easy and more economical way is to trave by non-air bus door to door.

Admittedly, it is personal preference as to how they wish to to travel to CW although I still find it amazing that many people want to travel by BTS, taxi, motorcycle or whatever mode of transport to reach their destination every 90 days.

It seems that you trust ThailandPost (if you are referring to yourself) by sending your 90 day address reporting by ordinary mail (2 x B10 stamps). I believe most use the EMS service, i.e. tracking and more secure.

And what takes a few minutes? Is it the sticking of stamps on the envelopes? Amazing....
