  1. Hi John

I'm Bob UK and have only just purchased a new condo in Bangkok. Very straighforward procedure.

    1. I already had a Thai Bank account with Bank of Ayudhya. Need to go to any branch with your passport and address in Thailand (not hotel) and opening deposit of B500 or more.

    2. In my case, I transferred a lump sum from a UK bank in pound sterling to my Thai bank account which was then exchange into Thai baht.

    3. I paid a deposit to the developer of the property and the balance on completion. These monies were paid by bankers cheque.

    4. As the money was for the purchase of a condo you will need to ask (whichever bank you choose) for an official bank letter informing the developer that the money transferred from the UK was for a condo purchase.

    5. If the money transferred from the UK is over $30,000 (unless this amount has changed) you will also need to complete at the bank a Foreign Exchange Transaction form.

    Hope this helps.

  2. I have just purchased a new condo and now have the title deeds and blue book.

The blue book does not contain my name although the title deeds to the property does have my name in Thai.

Is this the normal procedure that when a farang purchases a condo the blue book does not contain the name of the farang purchaser?

    Advice would be appreciated.

  3. As my British Passport is getting rather full, I thought I would give the Cambodian e-visa a try to save space. Will be travelling to Aranyapretet.

I know that there has been several subjects on this matter but can someone advise me as to the correct website I should use and experiences of those who have recently applied and obtained visa.

    Advice would be appreciated.

  4. Exit the bus station and across the road are a number of Mini van Agencies offering Penang, and other destinations. There are also several similar offices in Hat Yai town centre, which is easily reached from the bus station via songtaew. I'm sorry I can't give you up-to-date costs. Everything in Thailand is so cheap I usually don't bother to remember prices and it was a few years ago that I used public transport. I usually drive to Malaysia these days.

Another option would be to take the train from HY to Butterworth and the ferry over to Penang, much more pleasant than a mini van trip, but maybe the train times aren't convenient for you. Why not stay overnight in HY, visit Songkhla Town too, or are you in a rush?

Whatever you decide, have a pleasant time and I hope this is of some help.

    Cheers, Rick.

  5. I've been using HSBC for transfers for the 6 years that I've been here. I have not encountered a limit on the amount of funds that I've transferred between HSBC accounts, (UK to Thailand), in fact last year I transferred 20,00 sterling to start building my house.

No major issues, the necessary paperwork was e-mailed to me then I returned it using the same method.

Apart from their requirements for minimum balances in both countries, they've been pretty good so far.

  6. Have been living in Thailand now for nearly 3 years and although I enjoy Thai food, I do miss British food.

I have been living in Rangsit, Pathumthani and rarely go into central Bangkok, maybe thats where all the British Food Shops/Stores are.

Can any of you brits or in fact anybody tell me where to buy a good selection of British Food, I know of Foodland, Village Market store, Central food store. Are there any others and where are they situated?

  7. TheThai gold price is the same all over Thailand.

The current price is approx 14400 to sell and 14500 baht to buy. On top of the buying price you would expect to pay approx 500 baht for one baht weight so therefore the price to buy is say 15000 baht. On selling, you would also have to pay a commission of approx 500 baht for one baht weight. Shops vary in commission prices so check around. I would recommend China town.

I purchased Thai gold when the price was under ten thousand baht - a good investment I would say long term.

  8. Many thanks for that Lite Beer.

My understanding therefore is that when my 90 day Non-Immigrant visa single entry expires in September, I can do 3 x 30 day visa runs and then return to Penang in December to obtain a further 90 day visa.

If the above is correct, again, I thank you for this valued information.

I understand you are from Khon Khaen, have been once, great place to stay.
