  1. Maybe Thailand can swap him with this guy:

Sydney police say they stopped a man for speeding overnight in the city's south, and discovered a large stash of drugs - and cash - in the car.

Officers allege the Thai national was travelling up to 137 kilometres an hour in an 80-kilometre zone.

They searched the car and allegedly found around $85,000 in cash, $5,000 in casino chips and ecstasy tablets.

The 27-year-old was charged with speeding, drug offences and knowingly dealing in the proceeds of crime.

Police also notified the Immigration Department after discovering the man's visa had expired in 2007.

  2. If anyone would like to add information on CNX nightspots that are either safe or unsafe then this is the place to do it. Start a wall post under Chiang Mai and then the name of the club or venue.

Note that this is for reports/rating on establishments only and off-post rants, a diatribes will be removed.

  3. all of us who have spent any time in nighclubs know this is a risk we take. I think you would have to be very carefree not to have ever considered this possibility. 5 years without major incident is a miracle. Just be aware it could have been any of us in any place.

Maybe we should start naming and shaming. Ive seen padlocks on several emergency exits across the city.

    A new thread perhaps.

    A terrible tragedy.

Yes. dam_n good idea. Join the Facebook group DJs & clubbers for safer clubbing venues.

  4. Stopped by Raindogs last night after receiving numerous invites via FB and found it a very dull but gay place. As of midnight there was perhaps 30 people there.

Mixing was mediocre and the play list eclectic to say the best - jumping from one genre to another. Main interest seemed to be on the indoor tent being used as a projection screen for hardcore gay porn depicting well endowed ladyboys demonstrating their prowess's.

Perhaps it might go off later in the night but this type of video show is not something that I go to clubs for. Another FB group I can remove now. :o

  5. Our secretary f*ked up the payroll before going on holidays as of the end of last week and has turned her phone off so none of the staff have any money and the boss is O/S so it might be a bottle of white whisky with the security guards. :D:wai:

    >>What.....to sit and listen to a whole load of misfits from their homeland tell one another how great their job is and how much better than everyone else they are?????........no thanks. I think I'll do my own thing.<<

    :D

I thought that was a Thaivisa party CM format.

Uumm, is it standardized, or obligatory now? :o

Hardly :D type of event in CM :D

  6. >>Club Culture can be quite enough on some of it's better nights too but I guess you have to make a decision on following the crowds or finding somewhere with decent music.<<

Decent music and mixing always before following the crowd.

  7. Anyone know anything about Raindogs run by DJ Bradley Kaos at the bottom end of Phraya Phiren under the overpass?

Rain Dogs sounds interesting from Sabaijai and kblaze's descriptions. I'm not familiar with "Phraya Phiren under the overpass" though. Could you give a better description of the location or a link to a map. Thanks.

Here's a map taken off FB.

  8. >> hmm i disagree... justice and similar electro stuff has been playing for a long while in NY... should have reached here by now... i get so tired of hip hop, crappy trance from the 90's, or pop music here, but then, why should thailand be into western music i guess.<<

Here's some downlinks for some non-commercial trance then Girlx. No hip hop for sure. Just click the free download option.

  9. I'm in the middle of the same process, and was told yesterday that my WP (stating my adress) isn't enough.

I have no rental contract of the house (the contract's on my girlfriend's name), so no water or electricity bills as well.

What they are telling me now is that my employer should garantuee me and let me put my residence there.

But maybe that won't be enough either, as they tell me a different story every single time.... it's really causing a headache at the moment.

Would be useful information if you post how you get on.

  10. Rain Dogs is not really 'run' by anyone other than the couple that tend bar. The owners are freelance journos who wanted a place to drink with friends. They're open to almost anything but the only regular program there is the Tuesday night documentary film evening, which offers films on photographers or photogrpahy. They may soon add a night for docs about music or feature films with a music theme. It's mainly a late-night rendezvous for journos, photographers, film people, It's grungy and underground, and appeals more to members of Bangkok's growing anti-DJ, anti-clubbing culture. Even if they do have the occasional DJ, the live music nights always get their biggest turnouts.

Thanks. It's not what I had been told so interesting to get another perspective.

    >>anti-DJ, anti-clubbing culture<< philistines!! Definitely not the place for me :o

  11. Hi, Interesting reading about Bed and QBar considering how hard they promote on FB.

Anyone know anything about Raindogs run by DJ Bradley Kaos at the bottom end of Phraya Phiren under the overpass?

I've been up in CM and it's mostly hip hop up there.

Looking for smaller funkier clubs with good mixing playing tribal through to hard trance and open late of course.

    All suggestions welcome.

  12. He's selling because he is leaving the country so want to make sure there are no problems with the transfer.

I'm staying in a friends house while he is out of the country so don't have any utility bills, rental agreements, etc., apart from one from the house I was previously renting in Chiang Mai. That rental agreement is still valid though. Is that of any use?

Will an old lease work will depend on your local immigration office.. Also where you are now, I doubt a CM lease is going to help you get a phuket immigration confirm of res letter !! Also some dealers can 'provide' and address for you, they have a contact at the offices and do it as a complete service..

Also be aware when buying a bike from a farang.. At my local DMV you need to have CURRENT copies of thier entry card and permission to stay stamp, so if the person leaves the country and the entry card expires, they will not transfer the bike over.. Meaning you cant sell a bike when the seller is not in Thailand at the time (crazy rule !!).. A mate had a bike where the seller had left and even though everything else was signed and legit, they refused as the entry card had expired, resulting in him having a bike, trapped in someone else's name, and no chance of a legal transfer. Tho a contact and a 1000 baht got it all solved after a few months of hassle.

    Thanks for that. Interesting information.

Also any advice on Insurance? Who to use, what type of insurance, cost, etc?

    Thanks

  13. Since the OP mentions transferring the regio, I'm guessing he's talking about a bike already registered (2nd hand).

In that case the above is correct on the buyers side, i.e. copy passport and letter confirming address (which can be had at immigration for a few hundred Baht, bring along a rental contract or a utility bill in your name to prove your address of residency, or at your embassy).

On the seller's side you'll need the green book, signed at the proper place (bottom/middle of the page which has the current owners address), signed copy of his ID card, signed copy of his house book, and in case the seller can't be present a signed power of attorney allowing you to complete the transfer.

If the seller is a foreigner, he also will have to supply you with the form stating his address (immigration or embassy).

If your WP comes through then that can be used in lieu of the proof of residence paper (in both the buyer's and seller's case if he happens to have a WP).

Thanks for the information. The big is not a big bike and is already registered in the name of a foreigner. He has the greenbook and he said he bought it through a dealership last year.

  14. I'm looking at buying a motorbike and wonder if anyone can tell me what documents I need to transfer the registration into my name and the cost of it all.

I'm an Australian citizen and have a Non.Immig B visa while my WP is being processed.

Anyone know what documents I'll need and the cost of obtaining them and transferring the rego?

    Thanks

  15. Just back from the rally at the National Stadium and have been watching an endless row of pro-government supporters

streaming in to the facility all day.

A police commander estimated more than 30,000 people were inside the stadium as of an hour ago (5.30pm). There were still many thousands outside and police have had to close off one side of the road due to the high pedestrian traffic.

All of the seating except for the far end of the stadium behind the stage was full, as was the entire playing area.

The turn-out will I'm sure have an affect on those politicians who have joined the Democrats and is an indication that in the event the Democrats do form a coalition government that Thailand's political problems are far from over.

Those attending came from as far as Udon Thani and comprised a broad cross-section of ages and professions.

  16. Can someone please tell me when the PAD mercenaries will (leave/be removed from) the airport so the we can get on with our business???

Simple too answer.....when the government leaves, they will leave....

And they are Patriots not mercenaries.

Interesting terminology. One person's patriot is an others terrorist.

But only terrorists threaten to use innocent people as human shields and instigate actions that harm innocent people.

Time the trash was taken out of the airport.

  17. My understanding was that all tourists had been evacuated but given the PADs threat to use human shields - just like other terrorsit groups do - this may not be the case.

Shut down the mobile telephone system in the area.

Shut down the electricity - though that may be difficult given the unions support of the PAD

Large front end loaders to clear the roadway

Entry from the airside while distracting them from the roadside

    Tear gas and stun grenades

  18. About time.

The government had to make a stand against these urban terrorists.

If the PAD refuse to withdraw then they bring any injuries upon themselves and I have no sympathy for them.

The seizure of the two airports is a last, desperate stand by an organisation that has run out of ideas, has dwindling support and just plain desperate.

  19. I've just come from the Warorot Grand Palace Hotel where there is a very large group of pro-government supporters readying to go to City Hall at Mae Rim to support the cabinett meeting to take place there.

Their spokesperson said a group of PAD had commandeered a train and thrown all of the passengers off in Bangkok and were also on their way, along with several bus loads of PAD protesters.

I saw a large number of sling-shots being handed out and many PPP members armed with clubs and iron bars.

Anyone who is heading out that way can expect major disruptions.

I'll post more when I get back later this afternoon.

  20. I need to put together a quick article for the London Daily Telegraph.

Anyone like to share their views and opinions on what the current situation in Thailand will do the for short, medium and long-term tourism market - including business tourism?

Now that we've officially hit peak season, your feedback on how you found the high or shoulder season would be appreciated too.

Comments on how these protests might affect the retiree market will also be appreciated.

Those responding can choose to have their businesses mentioned in the article or not.

Responses by PM also welcome or by email. My email address is on my profile.

    Thanks

    John
