You get three pictures, the infringement, one a couple of seconds later showing which way you were moving and a nice clear photo of the plate.

I drove past the camera yesterday as a passenger, it just looks like three conventional CCTV cameras on a pole rather than the classic Gatso we all know and love.

That's remarkably efficient! I wonder if they're manually controlled or if the whole process is automated.

A red-light camera would be a good addition to the roads here, more important I think than inappropriate lane changes. Far too many accidents in Thailand due to people running the lights and/or jumping a green one.

I see what you mean, looks good though, why don't you get all the brown ones taken out and blue ones put in?

That's just one corner of the office. There are probably 30 or so panels like this and each are divided into a top and bottom section. Would be very expensive to replace them all.

I like the brown ones actually as it gives the light a yellow/warm tone.

Anyway, adventure finished. Another one for the books!

That is wrong, the whole street is one way. You can even see in the picture that the road is one way. Well, I haven't driven there before and just noticed to late that its the way to the express way.

Not the whole way. Go a bit further down that road (East) on Google Maps and you can see there is traffic coming the other way. Traffic from that direction is forced onto the expressway.

The expressway entrances are all a bit confusing in that area because the lanes keep changing. On Sukhumvit it's even worse. If one is in the northernmost lane heading east or west one is forced onto the highway even though it'd be quite easy just to continue down Sukhumvit. Police catch a lot of people there too.

As it says in the photo its Pethchaburi Rd, looks like just east of the Wireless Rd intersection. A dirty trick by the authorities to fine this high like you say, as the inexperienced driver has to try and understand the poorly faded road markings or be forced onto an Expressway to avoid a fine??

It's not  a dirty trick. If you've driven there you'll know that if you don't turn onto the expressway you'll be heading directly into oncoming traffic.

So the story just ended. Building manager called the owner of the business to complain. Suddenly the whole thing is down to a big miscommunication. Junior staff from the installation company has been thrown under the bus by the owner and the window will be replaced pronto.

Typical Thailand story! Worst part of it all was how easily my staff accepted the excuse from the installation company... "Don't worry, it will eventually fade to the same color over the next 20 years!"

There are many different tints available, including various browns and blues and greys. Your installer has simply used the wrong one and is unwilling to admit his stupidity.

The solution, as always, is NEVER to let anyone do anything here in your absence. You have to watch every single thing they do and double-check it all.

Thanks, that's what I thought. Strange thing is there's another cracked window in the building and he told the building management that it'll be blue too. Seems the building manager believes him and our building is going to look like some of that multi-colored corn they sell now very soon!

  7. Hello everyone,

We had a window replaced in our office as it was cracked since the time we moved in. Was done over the weekend and I came in to find that the window is a deep blue color whereas all of the other windows are a light brown, like a tinted window (though they're not tinted). The installer said that the window is 'mercury glass' and it will fade to brown over several years.

Does this sound right to you? Googling finds nothing like this, to the contrary I've found articles saying that colored glass will not fade over time.

The office looks quite ridiculous now as the window is in the main entrance area so there is a line of light brown windows and one blue one.

    Any thoughts or experiences?

Hi Luckily I am in The Uk so not much he can do to me, actually zilch. My only contact is through Facebook. I will cut all ties and he is going to be blocked.

I will add a little footnote. He has been telling me today about being in Pattaya and being scared and loving me and missing me.

Unfortunately for him he is a Stupid predator (its what shocked me in Thailand, he made absolutely no effort at all to pretend I mattered, which is why I have not given him money since) He has a friend on Facebook who is always posting herself live. so I had a look today on her page and there he is in Udon happily singing Karaoke. So the Pattaya thing was completely made up. I did believe it. None of you did! I am a ridiculous fool but it hasnt cost me  me very much.

I am going to block him and cut all ties. Tempted to do something to piss him off first, but may wait till I have blocked him and then send him a you are a **** message on line (he is my only Line friend). Wont do any good I know but.

You lot have been so good at replying. I am interested in any ideas. I do have a photo of his ID. I dont think it is criminal though what he has done but maybe it is.

I know some people on here think I am making it up. I really am not. I thought I was being clever getting to know someone through the internet first, I do know the Sugar factory was true. He regularly used to video call me from there (to show me off to his friends).

If you want after it is done I will attach a picture of the <deleted> on here.

Don't try to get revenge on him by doing something to piss him off. You're just wasting your emotions and anger on someone who isn't worth it. Besides, in the future you likely will meet someone else and you won't want this guy suddenly swooping in with crazy stories and causing trouble.

Just say something like it's best for you both to stop contact as don't have any plans to come back to Thailand soon, and you lost your job so you don't have much money.  The second one should be very effective.

  9. Not just doomed it never existed to begin with. Seems like he is looking for a sugar daddy and nothing more. The requests for money and his announcement that he is going to work as a prostitute is just to give you a guilt trip.

Move on. There are many better fish in the sea!

Yes, you are correct, and I was mistakenly assuming this was an in-house shakedown. It does sound like there were six individual purchases, with six individual sales slips from SIN DF, and that someone consolidated those purchases into two bags.

Now after having read the entire article it actually looks much, much, much worse for the Thai Excise "authorities", what with allowing the tourists to keep two bottles, 'negotiating' the "fine" down, threatening jail, having a veritable queue of other (Taiwanese?) tourists being shaken-down, getting someone to delete photos, and finally publically acknowledging the incident, after having been outed.

Consolidating bags from multiple passengers in a family or group onto one trolley now seems to open one up to unique enforcement.

I wonder if any sort of paperwork is issued by the Excise "authorities" regarding the "fine"? And I wonder what happens to all the goodies which are seized?

This isn’t a Thailand thing. Same happens in HK as a family member found out when they carried some ciggies in. There’s no grouping of allowances allowed.

How ironic. Where do you get the notion that this particular thread deserves updates? It has already judged a man starting from the very first 2 words. Clearly facts aren't of the slightest concern here.

It’s seems reasonable as you said things haven’t turned out the way it seemed.

So what’s the update. Turns out he was selling durian and the whole thing was a big mistake?

Thanks Crash999 she sure was a chick magnet. If I lived near Bangkok I would consider a sports car. Up here in the boonies where I live I wish I had a high rider truck at times because of the flooding and poor road conditions.

How long ago did you sell it? They're worth big money these days. It's such a cool timeless design.

Edit - Just saw it's a replica. Was very well done!

One of the major real estate developers in Thailand has a Daytona, I think maybe the only one in the country.

I wouldn't own a sports car outside of maybe Chiang Mai and Bangkok as upcountry it can attract the wrong kind of attention.

Maybe I am missing the point many are making. Yes you could drive a supercar here in Thailand on Thai roads. You can buy one as a status symbol and drive it around Bangkok at 60kph. Not for me. The reason I would buy a supercar would be to go FAST. If the car had a top speed of 350kph then I would want to drive it 350 from time to time otherwise I can't get the full potential out of the car. My handle is not Rdrokit because I go slow. The California Highway Patrol gave me that name (Red Rocket) because of my driving style...........fast. I was clocked at 255kph just outside of Baker California in this red rocket.

    That's a nice Daytona!

There are plenty of places to drive fast in Thailand. On Sundays a lot of the car clubs meet early and do a speed run down the expressway towards Chonburi. There are also group trips up to the North to the Chiang Mai area which can be very fun in a sports car. And to the South around the Phuket and Krabi area, also very nice. For a speed run there's an almost abandoned expressway that runs along the planned Kra Isthmus canal route.

Also there are some fun racing circuits not far from Bangkok like Bira and Kaeng Krachan. Very easy and cheap to get some track time.

I'm willing to spend 38 million on a Hurican if I can't get my Vette. I have the cash, what I can't find is someone with the import papers for this year. I know this is not easy but in the past it could be done with time and money. It seems something changed this year and no one got their documents sorted.

Did you try talking with Champ at Niche to see if he could manage the import for you?

The supercar dealers including Niche were all under pressure recently after a huge crackdown on tax evasion. The pressure seemed to fade away but I guess it's probably still not the easiest climate to start bringing in cars.

You could also try Spyder or Wiz who have brought in some Camaros. I haven't seen any Corvettes for sale for a long time. AFAIK they're left hand drive only unless one has gone through conversion.
