  1. I was at the airport last week (around 8pm), the usual (200 baht to anywhere in the city) airport taxis (limousine as they call it) with the shop/desk by the arrivals hall was closed!  I thoroughly recommend you use grab or bolt app. and you will know the price before you agree to accept. Will certainly be less than 200 baht. As a last resort, there are usually 'private car taxis' or sometimes tuk tuks touting for business in the arrivals hall.

  2. One of the requirements for renewal in Udon is a residence certificate from immigration, are you sure you can renew your licence in a province other than where you live ?  I did my renewal about 18 months ago and had to do the colour blind test, and brake reaction test (red and green lights). I hate that damned peripheral test machine too where you have to say (Guess) when the two matchsticks are aligned !! ????

He's drawing on his decades of medical training and experience to make such calculated predictions. (I was half expecting the usual "and we estimate this will generate zillions of billions of baht for the economy")

  4. Going through this currently and previously too. The information I have been given is that if the owner (stated in the blue book) remains the same but simply changes province, you don't need to do anything. However if the new owner lives in a different province than the old owner and has a registration number in that old province - then as part of the transfer of owners name - the vehicle must be re-registered with a new number from the new owners province.  Those places that can do your annual test and insurance etc (one stop shops) can sometimes do this.  I have been quoted 4k to change owners name, address and registration number from the old owner and province, to the new owners and new province (and new number) For me thats a price worth paying, to let someone else do all the work.

I bought a 2nd hand motorcycle years ago in Isaan and took it down to Phuket. As well as changing the owners name to mine in the book, I had to get a new Phuket registration. It wasn't really difficult. I left Phuket in 2010 and still have the bike, still has a Phuket registration and have never had a problem at all with anyone (Including police checks) despite having lived in 4 different provinces since then, but never changed owner - so its fine.

In a nutshell yes, just like it was important to buy an aircraft carrier and have no aircraft to fly from it, now or in the future.  They just wanted one so had to buy it, plus of course the syphoning of of the inflated budget for distribution amongst themselves.

Don't forget the submarines or the PM's personal airliner too, or the additional 11 million baht upgrade to the toilets onboard of it.

  6. In all fairness, the teething problems that LexExpress has when they took over from Kerry seem to have been ironed out.  I don't know if it's because the drivers have got used to where I am now or they have settled down into the job - but I can't fault them now (personally). Of course the system only works once your package is at the local distribution centre - getting it there can sometimes be a problem and very time consuming - but thats not the local delivery guys fault. I agree that the new 'Live Chat' automatic service is complete <deleted>. I suppose they will be like everyone else and blame that on Covid too, which is very handy.
