  1. I believe this article is way above my pay grade. Can't respond this article as my response will surely remove any doubt I don't know what I'm talking about. When can we get back to falang bashing articles where we get to say in unionism " fine, arrest, and deport".
  2. Congratulations! An account from a person that "can and does" vs an account from a couple who "Can't and won't". As correctly pointed out there are literally thousands of people in the same situation. In this situation you should be street smart enough to know you can't rely on the nanny state or a third party ..... its survival of the fittest.
  3. I got a cold call from a legitimate mutual fund sales rep. His response to my questions was "Don't you want to earn 10% annually" indicating only fools would turn down this offer. Being the fool, I said no and ended the conversation.
  4. Well if Thailand reciprocates and makes age / weight (obesity) a requirement for visa renewals, I think Pattaya will become a ghost town. I better get on an overdue weight loss program or else I'm screwed, not in a good way.
  5. In major Thai cities such as Bangkok they should extend and improve the public transport systems during the festive season. Give a transport alternative that the party revellers cannot refuse. Just my two cents.
  6. At my coffee shop, I know two old Thai guys who use to be a sous chefs in Cambodia. Both had to leave because of the Thai-Cambodia conflict. As my Thai language skills are basic at best I don't know there situataion. My only observation is that wars seem to affect the most financially vulnerable.
  7. I couldn't agree more. This childish 2-5 pm rule is a major inconvenience and serves no purpose. People with drinking problems will adjust and make this rule meaningless.
  8. Agree. The renting from a obnoxious landlord or landlady is under the control of the tennant. With abundance of rentals, one can argue that the "obnoxious" tennant has the upper hand. Just saying.
  9. I recently bought a condo in Bangkok from a motivated seller. Happy with the condo but I agree wih the article that there is the dark cloud of building deterioration due to lack of maintenance fee collection. Going through a major project of replacing the galvanized steal water pipes, management on right track but strong arm tactics required to get all condo owners to pay their share. Caveat emptor!
  10. Ironical that the US treasury is accusing Thailand of currency manipulation after Trump introduced tariffs making Thai products more expensive and, as a result, weakning the Thai baht. Just saying.
  11. My rights. My freedom. My body. I know my limits , you don't. Ok, you made your point Dr. Google. In this Utopia of unregulated narcotics the government , society and family are expected to pick up the mess left behind by the druggies. I am expecting an overwhelming negative response from the pot heads who can't last a couple of days without their medical-nutrtion fix.
  12. Why the prestigious position of foreman, why not a worker? Ok. Your'e right he's too old to be worker, I doubt he would last 10 minutes.
  13. Here we go again, the currency wars. How about focusing on providing better services than artificially making services cheaper by means of devaluation.
  14. "The changes target those continuing to consume alcohol in venues after legal hours." Legal hours?? Let me guess no specifics given in oder to allow qualified people in high regard the discretion to determine the exact hours.
  15. "The criticism began with the choice of Zara McDermott, a former contestant on "Strictly Come Dancing," as the documentary's presenter. Without a background in journalism, McDermott’s selection raised questions about the BBC's decision-making " Questions about BBC's decisin-making process. No kidding! Whats next, Zara McDermott is going to present a series on neural surgery?
  16. "These changes aim to enhance passenger rights on both domestic and international flights. Compensation can be provided through various forms, including travel credits and frequent-flyer miles." Pure BS. So you get travel credits or frequent-flyer miles to places you don't want to go, at the most inconvenient times, or the same place at an inflated price making the new flight more expensive than the original. No thank you, give me the money!
  17. If she had said "He left their kids" then that would be a different story. That's why there is no mention of child support. So what if he had left her with her kids from her previous relationship. He didn't bring in the kids into this world. He broke up with her and after a unspecifiied period of time decided to go to Thailand. Why would you bring along an ex-partner. The relationship was over.
  18. IMHO the keywords here is "ex-partner". The relationship was over when he made the trip. What is this nonsense of her being upset that he was not taking her to Thailand. Which part of the "the relationship is over" does she not understand? If I leave a company, for whatever reason, how can I expect the company to continue giving me benefits.
  19. I think this article should be renamed "Nanny state wishful thinking" . All this reduced alcohol drinking due to government initiatives and governance. Really?? No mention of drugs as a possible substitute. All I'm reading is a bunch of academics trying to suck up to the government to gain favor and get promotions at their institutions.
  20. I wonder if the 36 senators calling for a ruling are the ones that were placed in the senate by the military. Just asking for a friend.
  21. This morning all clear sky and tourism sunshine, this afternoon all tourism dark clouds. I wonder what this evening will bring? Mixed clouds and sushine?
  22. "Furthermore, the government is implementing travel-friendly measures such as waiving the TM.6 immigration card requirement, easing entry for visitors." Let's make "waiving TM.6" permanent!!
  23. Agree. You either sell weapons or you don't. If the Swedish government interfers with the transaction for political advantage or to appease some of their local constituents, then they can kiss their weapons indusrty goodbye. Plenty of countries out there who will be more than willing to fill in the gap.
  24. Reminds me of my trip to Rhodes Island, 35 years ago. It was a 3 week all-inclusive targeting the UK working class . We were only 4 days into the trip and the complaints started rolling in about the food. By the time Sunday came along, all that was discussed was our afternoon trip to a restaurant serving a British Roast. For many, the highlight of their Greek trip was the outing to the restaurant seving British food. I'm sure there are few Brits on this forum, who if they they were completely honest with themselves, have never really left the Ol Blighty (smile).
  25. "Fighting began between the South Asian neighbours on July 24 following weeks of tensions which had been brewing since May, when a Cambodian soldier was killed in an armed confrontation on the border. In February, a dispute over Prasat Ta Moan Thom, a Khmer temple close to the border in Thailand, intensified when Thai police stopped Cambodian tourists from singing their national anthem near the holy site." This has resulted in more than 138,000 people being evacuated from regions bordering Cambodia. On the other side, more than 20,000 Cambodians have been evacuated, according to local media. What a mess over something that most mature adults of minimal intelligence could handle. I would be embarrased to be Cambodian or Thai.
