Crime Bomb Scare at Phuket Airport as Suspect Device Found in Motorcycle
riverhigh replied to Georgealbert's topic in Phuket News
"One admitted to planning to plant the suspect device at the airport, after travelling from Pattani province with a group of accomplices. The second suspect was identified as the individual who parked the motorcycle at the airport. The suspect according to investigators, the men were part of a coordinated plot to target high-profile sites in a deliberate attempt to cause public disruption. Police are now working to track down other individuals believed to be involved." If true, life sentence without parole or death penality. I consider them to be terrorists who have forfeited their rights to a trial. -

Report Drunken Turkish Teen's Meltdown at Bangkok’s Khao San Road
riverhigh replied to snoop1130's topic in Bangkok News
"Authorities revealed the teen had been wandering the area, possibly involved in other disturbances, including injuring a foreign woman with a stab. Ironically, his expired passport was later found and handed in by a taxi driver, adding a twist to the night's events." Battety and Assault, expired passport ... no further investigation required. Fine, jail, black-list and then deport this self-centered narcissistic youth. -

riverhigh replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
There should be some money made on those authentic medical certificates. I am a 20 year-old Muay Thai boxer suffering from chronic arthirits brought on by old age. I see this as a boom for the neighborhood medical clinics. Just speculating. -

BREAKING NEWS Thai Forces Close Sa Kaeo Border Amid Tensions
riverhigh replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Thanks for the update, all these activities don't esxist in my bubble. -
Most probably the silly sod thought he could live the rest of his life in the lap of luxury. What I don't like about him is his apparent lack of empathy concerning how much damage 3 kg of heroin can do. Take away his cigarretes and see how long it takes before he tells everthing he knows about the operation, which is most probably next to nothing.

BREAKING NEWS Thai Forces Close Sa Kaeo Border Amid Tensions
riverhigh replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
"This decision responds to reports of Cambodian military encroachment, including patrols and alterations to the landscape on Thai territory, which have heightened tensions and affected border residents' safety." IMHO if Thailand realy wants to stop Cambodia from encroaching on their territory then do away with the Visa runs. Let the tourist pay at the immigration office. All the money stays in Thailand and nothing goes to Cambodia. Stop feeding the enemy. -
Politics Thaksin Plays Power Card to Keep Paetongtarn in Place
riverhigh replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
I disagree, these types of articles should be of interest to long term expats, even though they may neither have a vote nor a voice. You may choose to live in the expat bubble that's your choice. However, that bubble can be burst at any time by the Thai powers to be. Many long term expats are on a glorified tourist visa that can be technically terminated on whim without recourse. Given this, it's good to know where the wind is blowing so you can take precautions the best you can. I wonder how many Jews wish they had left Germany back in the 1930s. -

Crime 4 Bar Girls Stabbed in Bloody Feud on Bangkok’s Sukhumvit Soi 23
riverhigh replied to webfact's topic in Bangkok News
"All four victims were admitted to Kluaynamthai Hospital. As of the latest reports, two remain in serious condition, unconscious from their injuries. One victim sustained wounds to the stomach, while another suffered stabs to the right side and the arm." What a mess! What a mess! To think this happened in a high rental district in Bangkok, relatively close to the iconic Terminal 21. Then again it did take place in a secluded parking lot, out of the view of the public. -

Tourism Decline of Chinese Tourists in Pattaya Raises Concerns
riverhigh replied to snoop1130's topic in Pattaya News
Got to give Yuttasak Supasorn credit for a well thought out list of six reasons why Chinese tourism is in the decline. Reasons based on fact not on self serving financial interests. -
Before you guys give me the red thumbs down, I kinda understand why the Bolt driver ran him over. From the video there was a car on his left side blocking his view while he was turning. Most probably he saw his pick-up clent accross the road and while looking for the on-coming trafic and making his trun, fate would have it that there was a drunk Swede on the ground. Okay I'm finished, press those red thumbs down buttons.

Politics Thai Opposition Demands House Dissolution Amid Coup Concerns
riverhigh replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
"The biggest element is the total loss of moral authority". When I first came to Thailand and walking in a park, I saw an elderly Thai scolding another person for not standing to attention to the 6 pm national anthem. Roll the clock forward 20 years, I now see Thais merrily walking and talking in the park and completely oblivious to the 6 pm national anthem. "Moral authority" , "blind authority" .... call it what you will but it's definitely in the decline. You can now go to Thai karaoke parties and see young Thais make fun of traditional (brain washing) songs they learnt at school. Changing of the guard and most probably for the better (smile). I agree with your preference for the PP. IMHO the election was a complete shambles. The Pheu Thai party and the unelected military senate/ government agencies have no business in being in power. Just my outsider opinion. -
Report German Drug Dealer Arrested in Major Pattaya Sting Operation
riverhigh replied to snoop1130's topic in Pattaya News
He was caught carrying a firearm. Firearms include handguns, pistols, revolvers, rifles, machine guns. Considering he was riding motorbike it would be reasonable to assume it would be a compact firearm such as a gun. All the same I will modify my comment as to not upset you: "Not the brightest. Carrying a firearm and selling a class 2 narcotic drug in a 3rd world country where the jails are horrendous. " Are we happy now? Can we move on with our lives? -

Report Three Nigerian Nationals Arrested in Phuket for Overstaying
riverhigh replied to snoop1130's topic in Phuket News
"This action is part of a broader crackdown on visa violations and criminal activity on the island" From the article it appears that it is easier to get rid of petty criminals on visa violations than to go through a lengthy and costly police investigation. Nothing really to do with them forgeting to renew/extend their visas (smile) but more with what they are actually doing here. -

riverhigh replied to snoop1130's topic in Pattaya News
Not the brightest. Carrying a gun and selling a class 2 narcotic drug in a 3rd world country where the jails are horrendous. Considering his age of 42, one would expect that he would have learnt some life lessons by now. Obviously not. Fine, jail long time and deport. -
Tourism Thailand Boosts Tourism with Strategic Focus on Quality Markets
riverhigh replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
Are you getting bored with these perpetual announcements by TAT of moving from "volume" to "value" tourism? I am! It's like continually telling your friends you are going to outer space without ever saying how you are going to do it. By the way did I ever tell you I was going to outerspace? Now where did I put my stash of drugs? -
