  1. Sorry Sparkles--but you say that your process was completely different to the other posters? You got your Tax Code from the main tax Office, Chotana Road but they could not/would not process the refund and you had to go to the Hang Dong Ampur?

I,too, live in Hang Dong so suppose this will be same for me--I was hoping to go to the Nong Hoi Office where it seemed the whole charade could be handled in one Office--not so, I suppose?

  2. Thanks to all for the advice--went to Thanachart bank, yesterday, and had quite a job getting them to accept that Tax Refunds could actually be made for more than just the preceding 12 months--eventually they accepted that it might be possible and calculated the Interest earned and tax deducted for the previous 3 years--I, too, have one year with higher than 30K interest earned, purely due to the way that the accounts interest was accrued and calculated--in fact the preceding year's Interest and tax was paltry--in effect they lumped almost 2 years of interest into one tax year.

From what I have read, due to this, I need to find my way to the Hong Hoi Office--round the corner, over the bridge from Holiday Inn/Rajavej, I understand.

It also sounds as if a penalty could be charged for years prior to the preceding 12 months--anyone got charged one yet?

Absolutely no chance of claiming for Tax years older than the previous 3 years--bugger! Mai Bpen Rai, I guess.

  3. Wow--seems I'm a bit late to the party--but very useful info, all the same, thanks to the OP.

Always amazes me, in this country, just how hard it is to find all the relevant information--without this Topic I would have carried on assuming that the Tax deducted at source was 'non-refundable'--typical.

How long has this been available to reclaim? I have had 800K in an account for 9 years --never reclaimed a satang.

  4. Jeez----I'm sorry I even opened this thread--apologies to 'Kunjay' for all the bitter, nasty and frankly, unnecessary posts.

Many years ago,[14 in fact] I bought land, in Thai wife's name, built a house--had a separation and sold the house and land for a sizable profit--no big issue, no rip-offs, everyone happy. End of story--it doesn't always end in tears. I did make sure that I had, what I felt was, a very good contract with my wife prior to buying the land.

  5. There is a second hand shop on the road from Big C Hang Dong to San Kamphaeng on left side after Global House, called Rommit2Hand, and when I was there about 1 month ago, I noticed some circular saws for hire- can't say of they have any other kit, but could be worth a look.

  6. I believe in "lazy portfolio" , detail available online: grap a few Vanguard ETF's, enjoy the low fees, diversification and very rarely needs rebalancing.

...and I don't have to worry Vanguard walks away with all my money.

I started when I retired in 2007, stocks ETF took a big hit in 2009 so i rebalanced by moving money from bond into stocks.

Since 2009 my portforlio has been going up every year, as of now every 2 dollars i invested is 3...I think the market has to go down 30-40% for me to lose money.

I did took about $300,000 to buy Berkshire Hathaway for fun, in short 2 years it has gone to

about $440,000, if I put it back into Vanguard Total Stocks I will be hit by a big tax bill.

I am sure alot of investors did alot better with other smart ways but I sleep very well.

TAKE for sure and good for you to share that.

    What exactly do you mean?

  7. Wow, there's some insensitive people on here- I guess it could all be a Troll post, but I can't really see why, apart from the fact that after what the OP claims to have been through I would certainly not be as stoical as he seems; anyway, on the basis that it's possibly true, surely comments like "There's a sucker born every minute"are somewhat harsh.

Incidentally, I will be checking out the 'Ex-Pat Investors' website, since I am investing with a slightly controversial Fund ATM, and in the past I was also with Brandeaux Student Accommodation Fund, but my broker advised that I get out, and it sounds like I owe him for that advice.

For many retired Ex-Pats, the standard rates of Interest available at high street banks just are not good enough to grow any real interest so we all search for higher yield options-I can sympathize with the OP, if indeed he is genuine.

  8. Although I love all things wooden generally, and have had some great work benches and tables made from wood in the West-there are so many little critters over here that eat wood-I would go with steel and treated plywood if it was my work top.

I know you can treat wood but once a work table is installed retreating at a later date always presents issues.

  9. I'm really glad I just read this thread. ........................yawn.......oops, just nodded off.

Seriously, you guys-really you should do all this by PM, not airing it all in public, surely?

  10. I researched Ibogaine Treatment many years ago (about 15 in fact) and there were many studies being undertaken-unfortunately funding for full on critical scientific evaluation in America was not forthcoming. The general consensus was that, provided the treatment was conducted under total medical control-there was a high chance of success; heart arrhythmia was a very definite side effect and total monitoring was essential.

It doesn't seem, from watching the Coconuts 'Documentary'that this was in any way medically or clinically/scientifically overseen. Sorry that this guy went to such a 'low key'establishment, and not to somewhere that really could have helped him.
