  1. Hi. I did do a search on this site, but there isn't much info.

I am thinking of sending 2-3 meters of stuff back to Canada.

Can someone suggest a shipping company

And does anybody have experience specifically with getting stuff into Canada? Any problems? Any huge brokerage fees?

    Thanks, Mark

  2. Do you notice heavier than usual ac costs on the top floor?

Not really. Being on the corner gives me a great cross breeze, and it is almost hotter in summer because the sun comes in the window, instead of coming straight down on the roof as it does in winter.

Also, I am on the government rate, so I rarely spend more than 1,600bt on electric total. Maybe if it is real hot, and I am in all day and don't open the windows at night, it might get up to 2,000bt

  3. I have been planning to wait until Oct 2014 to sell my top floor, 2-room corner condo. I will expect it will bring 1.5m fairly easily then.

But from next week I will be in CM for two weeks (May 27 to June 9).

If someone wants to swing a quick deal, I will be reasonable...

It is a very nice space (64 meters, two WC's), and still has a good view over Maya!

    PM me if interested...

    Mark

  4. Another benefit to Vieng Ping is that the driving access is much much better than for Nimmenheman or Hillside 4 (Huey Keow). Even with a car, Huey Keow - Nimmenheman can pretty much be avoided completely (unless you are going up Nimmen, or have to go to Central.)

Being on the other side of Huey Keow has it's advantages - easy to get to from Superhighway. Lots of back routes that avoid the major congestion, and being on the walking side of Maya will be a treat.

Yes, as always, pedestrians have it rough. Getting across Rincome interesection (in any direction) is difficult on foot. That will probably not get better with Maya, although a few pedestrian overpasses would be pretty good. Even one - Maya across Huey Keow - would do it...

  5. I am not sure I would trust Amorn with anything reasonable or hi-end. They never got it right on the simple stuff I took to them.

I think, if it is a nice receiver, I would send it to an Onkyo representative. Shipping can't be that much...

As far as changing the transformer - I am sure only the original will fit inside and have all the correct windings. It can be done (possibly easily), but they will have to get the part from somewhere overseas - you may wait months. And a transformer will cost a fortune (my guess over $100 to just get the part).

Also, I too would not trust anybody to not plug my 110volt stuff into 220. I think I would cut the power end of the Onkyo, and wire it permanently to the transformer! Send the transformer in with the unit. Really...

  6. Now you know why I believe all wild dogs should be eaten like cows pigs and chickens To many dog just running the street.

Start a movement to eat them

    I won't join your movement...

However there are many cultures that like to snack and feast on dogs bah.gif , Thai, Tai Yai, Burmese, Vietnam is a multi-ethnic country with over fifty distinct groups (54 are recognized by the Vietnamese government), Cambodian, Filipino, Chinese etc. (who all prefer the black color dog, not sure why)....

I was in Issan not long ago and some guys grabbed the next door farmers dog and BBQ him right then and there, it was not pretty to watch, but they sure enjoyed doing it (killing and skinning) and eating it up.

Before you eat them, I think you would want to feed them some clean food for a while!

Seriously, there is a technique that seems to work (it worked the few times I needed it)

I read somewhere that dogs (being domesticated) have a 'built in' genetic reflex, that if a human (one of us!) bends over to pick up a rock, that will disarm them. Even if there is no rock!!! Just the movement of leaning over seems to do it...

I was on Koh Tao, and a rather aggressive German Shepherd style dog started barking really nastily at me as I walked along the beach. I bent over and picked up a long reedy leaf that was laying there (it was about 40cm) and just kept walking, holding the reed by my side.

The dog shut up at once, and just 'disarmed'. The tourists tanning there didn't know how I had done it. All I had done was pick up a piece of grass...

  7. yes, i could not agree more... not what i am looking for, except that the info might be useful in a pinch.

    Your welcome.

ps - Don't forget that Tabasco now has a Chipotle flavoured hot sauce - a great Mexican flavour.

Personally, I bring cans of whole Chipotles back from Canada, but that Tabasco is available in CM....

  8. Basically just add some cumin to your basic chillies and you are most of the way there...

    ---

Wiki - Chili powder blend is composed chiefly of chili peppers and blended with other spices including cumin, oregano, garlic powder, and salt.[1][2]

    ---

    About.com -

    • 1 teaspoon paprika
    • 2 teaspoons ground cumin
    • 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper
    • 1 teaspoon oregano
    • 2 teaspoons garlic powder

    ---

    Food.com -

1 1/2 ounces dried red chilies, medium heat, preferably ancho and new mexican, toasted and ground

2 -5 dried red chilies, of greater heat,to taste (like Chile de arbol or cayenne), toasted and ground

1 1/2-2 tablespoons cumin seeds, toasted and ground

    1 1/2-2 tablespoons garlic powder

1 tablespoon ground oregano (preferably Mexican)
  9. Looks like it's been made from a Meccano set. There are much better performing and better looking bikes in the Ducati lineup.

We'll personally I'm not a big Ducati fan. And the 795 is tiny....probably would not fit.....and as for that ridiculous redline.....biggrin.png:D:D:D:D

    Sorry I couldn't resist wink.png

Being a novice on big bikes, I certainly don't want 100hp or more. And being short as I am, the lower seat height of that Ducati (esp the 696) is particularly appealing.

Are there any other medium sized bike that is particularly suitable for us smaller folk? I want more power than a CBR500 but a lower seat height (and maybe less power) than a CBR600.

A few years ago I sat on a Monster 696 and fell in love. It felt like my old CBR150, but with 60 more HP (never rode it - just sat on it).

I would love a more reliable, less exotic bike than a Ducati...

    But what????

  10. For a beginner, go slow. There are a lot of nut-case drivers who come around mountain corners fast, and in the wrong lane. Stay to the left and go slow.

Most of the road is fine except near the top - oil, water, potholes, and a steep sharp hill.

Also, keep going up to Doi Pui behind Doi Suthep and even further (take the first right after Doi Pui goes to a nice lookout - when no smoke...).

(edit) An afterthought - the most dangerous part of the ride is probably after the last hill (the very steep one that has a very sharp left curve) before you reach the level road to the temple. There is a small lane that comes in from the left, and people come out of there quickly. And also people turn across the traffic to go in that lane. I have seen a few bikes wiped out by tuktuks and things right there. Just as you are coming onto that level road with all the little shops etc...

  11. Pretty simple logic - it's his bike.

That's not "logic" -- that's just a fact. Sure, he can make a complete mess of his bike (it's his bike), but why would he want to? See the difference? Kind of like your post -- sure, you can post a totally meaningless and worthless statement (you just did), but why would you want to? huh.png At least it was mercifully short. Next.......

Same applies to your statement really.

Thank you! Same applies, yes, except the "mercifully short" bit...

  12. Back in England I'd buy anything that looked sexy and went like sh*t off a stick. Here we are very limited with our choices and I settled for an ER6N which, although competent, doesn't light any fires for me. My wife says pay the tax and buy what you want, but the parsimonious side of me says wait and see what gets made here in the near future. I'm not a Monster fan and the imminent Z800 is a little on the heavy side for me. Now the Kawa 636 at a reasonable price would float my boat smile.png

Just curious - how could somebody not be a Monster fan?

  13. Banshee - currently running on HBo is worth watching ( you can get the missed episodes off the web)

Best Sci-Fi series ever --- Stargate Universe !! Doubtful about a 3rd series though. --- maybe because it was trying to revive an old theme/idea - Stargate SG1 and Stargate Atlantis. - but SGU was in a league of its own -awesome

And with that .... His credibility evaporated ....

Battlestar Galactica is hugely superior. The mini-series (series 1) explored the themes of truth, terror and torture. And this was at a time when Americans actually believed in a "war on terror".

If you want to see some great (and fun) sci-fi, I can only recommend (again) Odyssey 5

    http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0318236/

    .

The critics were a little more reserved in their compliments:

" If you can handle the frustration of becoming invested in a series that remains incomplete, Odyssey 5 definitely warrants a viewing. Would our heroes have defeated the nasty artificial beings and saved the world? The answer will currently remain a mystery. This show falls a notch below the premier sci-fi series (Firefly , Battlestar Gallactica), but the story still offers plenty of memorable scenes."

Has anyone ever watched Firefly? I understand this is the Sci-Fi equivalent of Mad Men: astonishing TV but very few viewers...

Yes, it is unfortunate. The series does stop - leaving us hanging.

But one of the nice things about the series is that each episode is very complete. Each episode has its own story that does get resolved in that episode.

And critics? Well, they're wrong! I plowed through battlestar galactica, and finally just got bored. I started watching Firefly, and maybe the story is good, but boy did I find the characters plastic and unwatchable!

  14. Yes I had already noticed the differents zize of whell and tyres.smile.png But in comparaison to the trail, what will be the use/advantage of a supermoto bike ? Is it possible to ride a supermoto on dirty roads ? Is it better on standard roads ? in town ? high speed?

I'm no expert (either on road, or dirt), but think that the motards are basically street bikes. People took dirt bikes and put really sticky fat road tires on them, and used them like dirt bikes on the street!

The fat tires do work on dirt and gravelly roads, just because of the size, but I think they will still basically wallow around in any kind of loose dirt, sand, etc. And I am pretty sure they can't climb rocks particularly well. But I didn't do any real dirt riding on mine.

I am sure people with D-Trackers can tell you a lot more about their dirt-riding capabilities...

What some people do is keep the same bike, and just change wheels. Have a pair of 17" for the road, and an 18"/21" set for off-road.

I do know that some of the big super-motards are amongst the fastest and best-handling road-racing bikes in the world.

In some ways they handle road racing better than the super sports-bikes.
