  1. If you have a multiply re-entry permit what is the argument just use it again and again until the extension of stay expires. It is also uncommon for someone holding a visa to be allowed entry on a 30 day or 15 day entry, it has happened but not something immigration does on a regular basis. If you are adament go ahead and try the 15 day entry and see what they say.

Thanks for this. I actually don't have a multiple re-entry permit. Just thought I would try to find out if I could go back in to Thailand for just 10 days without having to get another single re-entry permit...

I may try at the border, and if they say no, no problem!

    Thanks everybody...

  2. Thanks for that, but I am not sure I understand your argument.

Yes - I have a one year extension...

I believe that if someone arrives with a tourist visa in their passport, they can still enter on a visa exemption (15/30days), and use their tourist visa later.

So I am still not sure why i couldn't come in on a visa exemption (overland), and get out of Thailand within 15 days. Then a month later use my re-entry permit to come back in on my one year extension.

Obviously I would have to ask for the 15 days at the border, but why would they say no? It is a visa 'exemption' that I am asking for, not a different type of visa...

    Thanks again

  3. I have a 1 year visa.

Before I leave Thailand I always get a re-entry permit.

    My question:

Can I come back into Thailand (overland) and not use the re-entry permit? Instead just ask for the 15-day visa exemption?

ie: could I spend two weeks in Thailand, get out again, and still have my re-entry permit for when I come back to stay?

    Thanks! Mark

p.s. This happened accidentally to me years ago. I came back in, and they didn't notice my visa, and gave me 30 days. Immigration CM fixed it for me, but I have always wondered if it could be done normally...

  4. A couple more:

Khun Aan at The Doi Saket Chiangmai Seniors Citizen Club is very talented - I saw her about 15 times in the last 2 months. Firm but smart - good neck work. I know that most workers at this place are good, but I do like K. Aan...

Khun Pet at Nature Massage on Loi Kroh rd. This is the place that does foot massages on the street at night, and many of the practitioners there are only so-so. But K. Pet is serious and also very talented.

K Pet and K Aan have been my massage people all winter.

  5. .

No green curry, tom yam, nor pad thai please!

Looking for an Issan cooking class - laab, sup nomai, som tam, gai yang, and the Issan ''curries'

Looking for Muang style cooking classes - Sai-U-Wa sausage, Chiangmai-style laab (laab nua deep!), plus more Chiangmai-style dishes (including that weird minced meat dish that tastes (nicely!) of chemicals)

How about that South Thai cuisine? Ahan Bak Thai. Spicy, stinky, sour, bitter, South-Thai food! Anybody know of any classes for this style? Gaeng Som, etc.

Looking to expand my cooking horizons beyond the standard Thai dishes.

    Thanks, Mark

  6. I renewed my 1-year type O. I got there at 7am.

They now have a pre-queue queue. I got #44 in the pre-queue, which gave me #233. Everybody after #221 were told to come back at 1pm. I did. Got served at 2:30, and had my visa at 4pm

Make sure you have all your photo-copying done in advance - people were waiting more than one hour to get copies done there.

  7. Are these still the only possible places for anything coming close to real French Patisserie?

A year and a half later, is there anything new or exceptional?

Thanks - a friend is on her way...

  8. My favourite - On Chang Phuak rd going north - just before Superhighway on the left

May in enquire as to the reason for it achieving favourite status?! I'm always on the look out for such restaurants to add to my rounds. I think i saw this one the other day, does it have the usual red and yellow sign outside it?

A large and great variety that changes a lot through the week. Way more dishes than most other yellow sign places (which this is). They must have 12-14 dishes, plus spring-rolls, sai-u-wa sausage, chinese wrapped rice, khaosoy... And always delicious

I haven't seen it for a while, but they used to do fish slices in a great sauce (mock fish - made from lentils).

(One drawback - they don't have many mushroom dishes (those mushrooms at the Chiangmai gate restaurant are great - meaty and a little like French cepe).

I regularly eat at three 'Ahan Jay' restaurants:

One on Huay Keow rd - just across from CMU (great Tom Yam Hed - mushroom).

One on the right - 100 meters inside from Chiangmai Gate (great mushrooms!)

My favourite - On Chang Phuak rd going north - just before Superhighway on the left

  10. Thanks for the advice. A little snide, but thanks!

Please note that I was asking about manufacturer's parts and what is recommended. The prices sound about right - I'd even go a little higher for decent parts..

I actually want to make it more 'dual-purpose', not a chopper. More like a Wave-Tracker. Maybe even put in a support-bar across the step-through.

Springs - YSS. Tires - VEE. But are there good companies for forks? Rims? Are there good lite-weight rims?

    ---

Is there a shop THAT YOU RECOMMEND that knows about these parts, and does good work?

I certainly know about little bike shops - a lot of them do really crappy work. So do a lot of bigger shops. Happened too many times. I don't really want to venture into some butcher-shop and fk up my bike.

So your suggestion of getting away from my computer "and go for a ride and look out side" really doesn't help.

Are you recommending I just take a chance?

Or Is there a shop on Canal rd that is particularly decent?

    thanks, Mark
