  1. Man it's irritating when they interupt me mid-sentance with a loud 'hello?!', you can at least repeat the part of the sentance you heard or say sorry.

Many Vietnamese are also the same. When I make a phone call and I don't "Alo" first but go straight to the subject, they often "ALO" very loudly to interrupt me. Feel that they force me to Alo before I can say anything.

  2. They say "Harnlow" and the "low" sound goes up. Many English words sound so funny when they are pronounced by Thais (technology, shock, promotion..... :-) )

  3. Spaniel, your avatar is cute

Like most males I would not ask for directions. It took me a month to figure it out on my own.

    :o

With moving avatar, my sister posted for me as I don't have the original "working out yellow baby duck". :D

  4. After 6 years in the same house with the same cabinet organization he claims he has no idea where I hide everything in the kitchen. :o

He he he...... mine claims that I'm hiding things too. He's too careless to place things in the correct place. Each time he needs something, he must remember where he placed it the last time he used.

    :D

  5. Yesterday he fried eggs when I was cleaning outside. When I stepped into the kitchen, his eggs were burning and he screamed like he_ll "Where is the spade?"

Me: "You took that spade out from that cabinet a few times. Why don't you remember?"

    Him: "It's not there".

I opened the place. There were 4 inside. 3 were in the 2nd layer and he didn't see.

Staying nearby when he cooks gives me a heart attack. Where's the sugar? Where's the oyster sauce? Give me a dish. No, this dish is too big. That one is too shallow.

If he's alone, he still can do things properly. If I'm with him, he will ask

  6. On Thai tv, they have 2 short videos everyday. One shows a lady walking and bags flying to her face. One shows some scuba divers and snack bags suddenly flow around them. The last sentence is "Juoi kan khon lah mai khon lah mu keb muang Thai hai suai ngam (Each person, let's help keep Thailand beautiful)".

It's on NBT channel. The video was on at 2:27pm (just now).

  7. I'm from Vietnam. My husband never stops admiring how people can carry things with a bicycle or motorbike. In Thailand they must use a pickup.

    * He rode a scooter in the middle of thousands of bikes and I was on the back. He was "Ei ei .... hit me?... ei ei <deleted>" although no accident. He was so exciting like a child and asked "Why so many bikes / scooters? They pai nai nuk nar?"

    * A 5 meter wide town house in Ho Chi Minh City can be built up to 8 floors. In some provinces they don't use piling.

    * We lock the main gate at all times and he said we live in jail :o

  8. Great topic, dhind1.

I myself keep the chewing gum bags in my jeans pocket or handbag and let it go into a trash can later. If I eat in the car, I keep all inside the plastic bag the seller provides, and let it go into my trash can when I reach home. My Thai husband just throws everything over the car window as he hates the messy car. I say "Don't look and you won't feel messy. I'll clear up when we reach home". Our 3 children are against the father's habit also. Their schools teach the right thing.

I keep waste from cooking in the kitchen trash can and plastic bags in a separate bigger bag. Reason is those plastic bags take so much space. I empty my trash can every 2 days so they won't get bad smell. My (Thai) sister in law's trash can often has worms at the bottom. Disgusting! She then uses a paper to put at the bottom so she won't see the nasties. If I see that, I must wash with dish liquid.

I tell my husband everyday not to throw things to the garden next door just because no one is living there and grasses are covering. I tell him he can do with banana leaves, coconut and leaves of every kind (they become fertilizer in a few months or a year) except plastic bags, foam boxes and so. I put a big bag next to the border wall and tell him to throw things in. I bet he doesn't give a sh_t so I will look for something which looks more like a trash can.

There are 2 public trash tanks near our house where people come clear once or twice a day. I saw someone walking by and threw the bag (they have by buying a drink) near the tanks. (Why did they take the bag knowing it won't stay with them for more than 2 minutes?). Sometimes I take plastic bags and empty milk boxes lying around the 2 tanks and put them into the tanks. People passing who see me doing that may do the same or they won't trash things around.

When we go to Vietnam, husband still keeps that habit and tells me "They're doing the same thing as me. Can you clear that garbage?"

I said "I don't ask you to clear garbage of other people. Your not adding your garbage to the street is enough."

I was born in Vietnam. In those years around 1985 in my secondary school, the Head Master forced students to keep clean. He said "If I see garbage in front of your class, I understand one of the students in your class did it. One of you must pick it up."

He said "I don't know why every time the whole school sit down on the school yard and when you stand up to move into the class, there are papers everywhere on the floor. Clear them up".

We took turn to sweep the class floor. When it was one's turn, he/she brought the sweeper (broom) from his/her own house then brought back home at the end of the day.

  9. I wear socks all the time so feet won't get cold.

Aaahhhhh, someone else with circulatory problems - I'm not alone!

LOL :o I have no problem with my feet, but someone in my house likes to wear shoes into house or steps out with bare feet and steps back into house.

The benefits of wearing socks all the time are:

    1. I don't feel sands on the floor. I clean the house quite often but there are always sands for the above reasons and because of the wind.

    2. My feet don't get dirty (I change socks 2, 3 times a day after showering) as the geckos sh_t a lot in my house.

    3. If I go to shops they want us to remove shoes, my feet won't get dirty with the socks on. :D Someone might have the priority to wear outdoor shoes into the shops :D so the floor is not clean.

    4. To protect the heels from being cracked.

    5. To protect the feet from the sun.

    6. I don't need to brush the feet as they are not black.

  10. We have garden with dogs (dogs stay outside the house only). They have vaccine once a year and injection for skin problem, worm and flea every 3 months, but 2 of them often have white flat worms running outside after they sh_t. Disgusting if someone steps on the worms / worm eggs, dog sh_ts and pees and brings it into the house with their shoes, walks to the kitchen and later puts their clothes + undies on the floor to fold. To them if the floor is not black, it's clean.

Not enough, they walk outside with the in-house slippers or bare feet.

  11. The tricky part here, for schoolteachers, is that the students remove their shoes before entering the classroom, leaving the hallway scattered with 100 shoes. The teacher, however, keeps shoes on all day.

No wonder my children's school socks are dam* black and dirty.

I saw some students walking outside with only the socks on (no shoes). No wonder theirs have holes. This is equally stupid.

  12. I buy good shampoos from supermarkets (most of the time in Tesco Lotus and BigC) when they have promotions. A few months ago I had a Pantene shampoo 400ml for only 88 Baht or so, production date Jan 2008. The current price is 124 Baht. The other time I had Pantene 175ml at 52 Baht Buy 1 Get 1 Free. Yesterday I bought Schwarzkopf Extra Care 200ml at 75 Baht.
