  1. Thank you Cathyy. I'll ask the seller of the needles. Thanks for the feed dogs tip also.

Sylva and Kiwi, I only use the sewing machine when I make the jeans shorter or fix something. I buy clothes instead as the tailor here charges quite high.

  2. Hi Sheryl,

The Cuprimine has arrived in Vietnam. I'm so happy I helped the patient. I truly appreciate your knowledge. You saved a life.

They were so desperate as they can't find the medicine anywhere, speak no English (how can they communicate if they fly to other countries to buy directly?) and might not know how to search the web to find the info (they can't know where they should fly to). They even don't have passports yet. Google didn't help when I used key word "D-Pencillamine". All of us were so desperate until I got your answer in here. Thank you so much.

    A bit of the story:

I phoned Sharp and Dohm or MSD (Thailand) but they don't sell directly to consumers. I also phoned the Fascino but they don't have Cuprimine. I asked the pharmacy near our home (in Thailand) to order from MSD. They sold in white plastic bottle of 100 pcs with big wording Cuprimine and small wording at the lower line D-Pencillamine. Cost 1,450 Baht.

As soon as the medicine arrived at the pharmacy (4 days), I sent by EMS to Vietnam. EMS cost 550 Baht but took 9 days to reach the recipient (I sent on Saturday noon time). I declared in the EMS form "medicine not sold in Vietnam (emergency)".

Here's the website of the company in case anyone needs:

  3. As we’re on this topic, I have a question. I have some T-shirts and want to make them a little smaller in the middle of the back but the sewing machine doesn't accept this material. It works on cotton and jeans but not T-shirt material.

Do you have the same problem?

  4. Isn't it great they no longer require passengers to fill out that not important form? I read in other thread that there were big delays at Immigration Thailand since many people don't know English and Thai in that form. They stood at Immigration counters to write with help from the Immigration Officers.

  5. i think best advice for this sort of scam by fake cops and such is to say that you will go with them back into the airport and go to one of the security desks or call the tourist police as you walk back in , better still go to back to customs with them never go with them away from the airport arrivals hall always walk back inside

    Great advice!

  6. Interesting topic! When being stopped by a policeman at Suvarnabhumi, a regular person will be frightened and will do anything in order to get out of that mess. Can we be calm enough to ask for seeing his ID card? Now we know what to do. Thank you for posting this.

  7. Today I used bicycle to go to the market.

I open the curtains to get real air and wind instead of closing all windows and turning on lights and air conditioner. I use regular water to shower in hot months in stead of water from the heater.

Husband now before going to bed takes my advice to turn off the main switch for tv, DVD player & 2 sets of satellite receivers as I've heard they consume 70% of electricity when on stand-by mode. When he goes out for a while, he now turns them to stand-by mode and turn off the fan instead of leaving them on whole day.

I sleep with a thin blanket so I don't need either fan or air con.

I take bags people throw around house and send to garbage bins. If I don't do that, local cleaners will just burn them up.

If I owe a seller in market 10 / 20 Baht or even 2 Baht, I'll go home to take money and pay them right after that. They'll act the same to other people. Sometimes I bring my own bags.

I grow many plants at home.

  8. We met in a friend's wedding. When they introduced him to me, I said "Hi".

In the party, I hugged a younger boy's shoulder who was my colleague when sitting. He thought that was my boyfriend :o

We got married 4 months later after seeing each other about 5 or 6 times.

  9. A Thai told me in America they don't have the bum spray. They have the similar one for washing dishes. Is it true?

My mother in Vietnam refused to use it 3 years ago but now has 2 for her 2 toilets. However brother and his wife cannot be convinced that it's better than using toilet paper. :o

  10. Heavens above - this is the 21st century. You arrive at Suvarnabhumi, Phuket or Chiang Mai airports from overseas. If you have travelled from overseas you have a PASSPORT. Why do we need TM7 (arrival/departure cards)?

Surely the passport number can quickly be entered into the Immigration Department's computers with an automatic 30 day entry registered on arrival. This way officers could process at least 2 people per minute. It would be a much better welcome to Thailand.

Holders of other visas could also be quickly checked through too. Let me see: 20 Immigrations booths could easily handle a plane load of 400 people in 10 minutes this way.

    Peter

I think the Arrival / Departure card is a waste of time but they still need to know where a passenger will stay, for how long and what he's in a country for. Anyone can just write down whatever hotel name and "travel" as purpose.

On our 2 trips to another country, no one took back these cards (of that country). We still have them with us now. Is it enough to say that the card is not important?

  11. The first time I went to Thailand on my own in 2003 which was my first time traveling abroad, I did not know I had to fill in the TM7 form. When Thai Airways airhostess handed it to me, I asked what it was for. She said "You're going to Thailand right? You must have this." :o

If someone who doesn't read websites or asks friends, I believe there is no notice board at the airport saying what you have to do like:

    - Fill in the Arrival / Departure card

    - Queue at Immigration Counter

    - After passing Immigration, take your luggage

It should be showed when you're on the plane instead of just safety instruction.

Stupid me, after landed, I didn't know what I needed to do. I was walking back and forth for 2 hours trying to find my luggage, showed the airport staff my passport, someone pointed me to Transit, someone pointed me to the opposite side, etc.

  12. I love reading Bina's post here. So true. I agree with what Phil has said.

Alex, since they were born until 11, they were sticking to us like superglue. We slept in the same room and when we walked out of the bed at 6am, they immediately followed us. When we went to bed around 9pm, they walked in front of us as they were scared of ghosts if they stayed alone watching TV.

After they started to sleep alone in their own rooms when they turned 12, we cannot force them to sleep earlier. We can't stay near the door to sing "Time to sleep" because they don't listen.

  13. Cathy, can I ask where you bought your machine from? Thank you.

Here in Nakhon Ratchasima. A little shop on Suranaree Rd, IIRC. A bit west of the monument. They had lots of real old machines, Singers or fake Singers and a few merely old Janome machines like mine. No new machines at all.

    Thank you Cathy.

  14. More than a year ago, I saw one showroom in Nana Square on Sukhumvit called Weath or something, on 2nd floor. They let customers test but the price was over my budget. I'm not fancy the 30,000 Baht type. It was a kind to place on any surface, not the huge old model which sticks with the leg frame.

My sister in law gave me one old machine but the part holding needle is bent after so many times the needles were broken. I can't sew anything nice but can do some fixing for casual clothes, like if the jeans are too long, I cut & sew myself without bringing to the tailor.

Cathy, can I ask where you bought your machine from? Thank you.

  15. Lops, why is this pointless thread not closed??? as with the case of a previous post(s) on closure of immigration offices. We only have the word of one person on a likely move of Suan Plu.

There is nothing on the Thai immigration website/BKK Post/or other Thai forums as to change of location of Thailand's main immigration office.

Isn't this Thaivisa forum a place to ask for information?

There's no announcement anywhere. If there had been, I would not have posted this question for being blamed pointless.

My husband talked with the Immigration Officials and she said they PLANNED to move. I did not say they will move in April.

Read my topic title "Does anyone know....?"

I did not say "They will move to....in April"

I did not post as an announcement.

  16. That activity is a killer. They don't start until 8-9pm I bet. Worth to remember that after partying, children come back home late and risk being robbed or rapped. 1-2am is no way a good time to come back home.

Some sources say the best time to sleep is between 10pm and 6am. Generally they advice us to sleep 8 hours a night but some people need only 5 hours and some people have to sleep longer.

If I have a week staying up until 1am, I'll feel tired, I'll drop things, cut my finger, burn fingers by touching hot surface when cooking, slip when moving inside the house, bite my own tongue, can't concentrate... Then I know I must go to bed earlier.

Good night sleeps give us a healthy mind and body.

  17. IMA, teenagers think they're mature and know everything :D We often confuse them by saying "Now you're an adult. Help with houseworks" or "You're still a child to stay alone (school has no dorm)" :o

madjbs, well, as for our children, how can they set the time for sports when they get up at 2pm? After lunch, their day almost ends. Internet. Dinner. Internet. End of a day. I think the school gives them some kind of sports per week.

Thanks everybody for replying which makes this discussion so interesting. I have a younger brother who (before he found a job) was blamed by my mom everyday that he took night be to be day and day to be night and another younger bro who still plays games when he has a daughter at 2. I think we don't need to force our children when to wake up because when they're at school, they must be up every morning; when they go to work, they must be up every morning; when they're 35, I doubt they still play these stupid online games and after they're 45, they can't be able to sleep after the sun rises.
