  1. You have two options.

A: You make a recording of their party. Hire one of these walls of sound Thai people use at every occasion, when somebody gets married or dies, goes into the wat ow wants to dry her hair.

Play the sound of the party from 05:30 in the morning. Make sure they can hear it in Chiang Mai. You could even take a week off and have a clock installed to stop it at 24:00.

B: You move to a small romantic rural village in Isaan, like the one where I live. The last three weeks we had several funerals, three weddings and two persons joined the wat (on seperate occasions mind you). They start the walls of sound at around 05:30 when your neighbor is still snoring I guess, fifteen minutes after the wats bell. To avoid moments of silence, during the day, at least 15 cars pass, selling garlic, brooms, soy sauce, matrresses. They all try to kill the competition with portable walls of sound on their pick ups.

The village dogs are the only resistance. From the moment one of these sound pick ups turns into the village, they start howling untill peace returns in their sector.

Since a few weeks, a new type of sound pick ups have turned up. They shout numbers to help me learn the Thai numbers. So I shouted back: Loo lew. "I know alreay" My wife thought thas was rude because we have elections soon and I should not shout at the local politicians before they have distributed the money. Thai culture you know.

I hope this helps: Thai people drink, because at night they are afraid of the spirits. Noise will chase the spirits away. Unfortunately drinking attract the spirits who are keen on cheap Thai liquor. Understanding this riddle might be the beginning of a solution.

Sometimes plainly a case of 'Empty vessels make most noise'.

  2. From Virtualtourist.com

'Today a special bus has left the small town of Salo in Finland on its way travelling 14000 km to Bangkok, Thailand.

They will drive via Russia, Kazakhstan, China & Laos to Thailand.

Hope they will make it all right, you can follow the trip on the map to see the bus location here: http://tracking.gps-.../rantapallo.php

Would you be interested to take such a bus trip in the middle of the winter?'

As long as the vodka is flowing on their Russian stopovers. Quite a trip.

  3. I have heard more than one Thai remark that a particular star is hiso as opposed to stars who are not hiso. The woman who announces the upcoming shows on True Series is an example. More than one Thai has mentioned to me things like "Oh, she is hiso." As that seems to be a point of interest as it is not usual, I would have to surmise that only those celebs who were born hiso are hiso and merely being a celeb is not enough of a qualification.

Someone else pointed out that celebs are the hiso of the UK. That is certainly the case in the US. Celebs are the royalty/hiso/top dogs of US society. And that is sad.

    Ghastly isn't it?

They leak pornographic films of themselves to increase their standing in the community. :ermm:

Funny you mention that. Hasn't something like that been leaked in Thailand as well about a VERY hi-so person? Any one know what I am on about? It was removed quite promptly off the net.

  4. I don't really care if you believe something or not. Why wouldn't you? You an all knowing, all seeing kind of bloke that knows everything already? Anyway it doesn't matter to me as I am not in Thailand right now and I don't give a rats arse. Just adding something to the thread about what I experienced. I am sure that there are experiences that others have had that would be different to mine. Everyone is entitled to their opinions and opinions are often garnished from experience.

  5. Wow. That is scary to have him roaming around free like that. I wouldn't want an embittered Thai police officer around. Maybe go stay with relatives?

I he is okay why exactly did Beetlejuice post that she was 13? Some kind of typing mistake? Hope so, coz trolling on a serious forum like this would be callous. Or does he know something else? Just wondering.

  6. You got to see the bigger picture. A lot of it has to do with education and opportunity. There just isn't a level playing field. Yes, you can get this in other countries as well, even in the West. Just because it is there doesn't mean it's right.

I had a Thai-Chinese girlfriend once whose father owned a variey of property and businesses around Bangkok. He had a Thai Chauffer who became his friend. The Chauffer was from Isaan and my gf said that he took care of his family well while saving to open a small restaurant on the outskirts of Bangkok. My gf's father often said that the Chauffer was smarter than his two nephews, who liked fast cars and living up the playboy lifestyle. Her father had total trust in this man from Isaan. They used to have meetings about the businesses. I was at one once. The father was trying to expand and needed a manager. He wasn't happy somehow about letting either of his nephews manage. So he asked my GF. She didn't want to but would do it if needed.

I asked her afterwards why her father didn't ask the Chauffer to manage it. After all he had her fathers trust and was hard working and intelligent. Wouild it not be great for him and his family for him to have a better income and a higher postion. Her reply was "We don't want him to have a better job because he might be better and learn too much, his people need to be down"

I am not with her any more.
