Has Elon Musk become an existential threat to humanity?

If a post can't get my attention by the end of the first paragraph I assume the poster had nothing worth saying anyway. -
Has Thailand Caught Up with the 21st Century?
thaibeachlovers replied to SoCal1990's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
Perhaps it is, but if it was like the west, how many farangs would still be living there, and how many would have moved there in the first place? I assume most of us moved to Thailand because we liked it better than wherever we came from. I certainly did. If being "decades behind the west" makes it a better place to live than the west, long may it be so. Frankly, IMO the west is nothing to be praising- rotten to the core.- 140 replies

Has Thailand Caught Up with the 21st Century?

How about fun? The west lost it's sense of humour at the same time it went woke. Monty Python, and all those comedy series we loved would never be allowed now by the wokists. We in the west live in sad times.- 140 replies

That would be every country on the planet then, including western countries. Some just hide it better than Thailand. -

I hope Thailand never gets to be the same as the west- rampant crime, unfettered illegal immigration, abandoned aged, greed, greed, greed, waste of space police forces, terrible public health services, and worst of all, invested in woke culture, reverse racism, DEI, gender insanity, convinced driving a car is destroying the planet etc etc etc. For all it's problems, Thailand surpasses the west in every important way. As always, my opinion.- 140 replies

True. They don't talk about what they do or did, and no one will say where they are or what they are doing. Amazing guys, and just the testing to be able to join separates the wannabes from the real men. I once thought about it, for about 5 minutes, then reality set in.

It's good to hear a politician speaking so bluntly about those officials that protect criminals ( illegal immigrants are criminals ).

Excellent news. If Trump shows how it is done perhaps those woke Euros will find a spine and follow suit. Trump isn't wasting time, this time. He's mentioned declaring a state of emergency and sending the military to the border. I haven't heard anything about the wall, but I'm assuming that will be finished at long last. At least lots of razor wire. Also mentioned is removing anchor baby status from illegal's children. It's looking good.

On that I can agree with you.

Must be lacking in anything relevant to now to keep rabbiting on about that. Is that really all you have? How about some comments on how the Ukrainians are winning in the East... oops, they are losing. Sorry about that. Have a nice day.

The Troubling Decline of DEI: A Step Backward for America
thaibeachlovers replied to Social Media's topic in World News
You ignore that she was a horrible person that couldn't even win a primary. Had they put up a half caste black/ Indian that was likable and had been previously been approved in a primary I'm sure she would have won against the worst man on the planet. -
As long as it's clear that it's an opinion I see no need to bring facts into it. Having been around "experts" all my working life, I doubt they know much anyway, given how many basic mistakes they make. No one has a working crystal ball ( though some like the D man thought they did ), so it's all looking at what is happening now and making a guess as to what will happen in the future.

Has Elon Musk become an existential threat to humanity?
thaibeachlovers replied to RSD1's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
The media only influences people if they use it. I stopped using the Media ( except for Al Jazeera which has no ads to speak of and this forum ), so it doesn't affect me much. Yes, rich people have as many friends as they can buy. It's a sad life though, always wanting more, and being scared that it's going to be taken away. -

I've never claimed Trump to be a great orator, and I blame the Dems for him even being there by putting Harris in instead of a candidate that was "normal". I've said it before, but IMO the Dems wanted to lose this one as they knew how bad the situation is going to be. By letting Trump win, they get to enjoy him having a collapsing economy and after it is sorted they get to put a decent candidate up and take back the W H. However, IMO the economic situation for the west is so bad that we are in for a worse depression than the 1930s and only the same solution as the Great Depression had will sort it, which in a world with nukes is not a happy prospect. I hope I'm wrong on that. -
Wouldn't surprise me at all if Starbucks and KFC down there. The place ( McMurdo ) is getting more like a normal town all the time. I used to go over to eat soft serve ice cream, hot dogs and watch movies. They also had volley ball, 10 pin bowling alley and a sauna. Plenty of different bars for the different ranks ( McMurdo is run by the US Navy ), with all the pleasures of home, and American scientists really know how to party. Have to say that I did enjoy my time over there.

It was great as we could go skiing at "night" without needing lights. I liked the 8 weeks without any light at all too, and when the moon was out it was so bright I was able to work outside.

Given that Antarctica has no wildlife except for a few small areas on the coast I suspect that any ban on vehicles is to prevent people driving around and getting into trouble. No government wants to be using valuable resources to rescue idiots. BTW, there is nothing to explore on Antarctica in the interior, so there is no need to have transport. Anyway, there are no fuel stations, so you'd have to take all the fuel with you. The most interesting places I went were the Dry Valleys and no way they want tourists in there, and the penguin rookeries, and no way tourists are going to get near them. The interesting places for tourists are the places accessible by ship. Antarctica is no place for fools to be let wander around in. The Adelie penguin rookery at Cape Royds ( when I visited there were no penguins so OK to walk around in ) had so many corpses of chicks that died that it was like a carpet of bones ( It was so cold there that nothing biodegrades ).

IMO you'd be a fool to do it alone. Could easily have an accident or fall down a crevasse and that would be a death sentence if alone.

William's field is snow and only ski planes can land there, normally US Navy Hercules. That's how I got down there. The Ice Runway is used by the US military to airlift people and supplies, with the really large cargo planes. William's field is named after the first US man to die, when his bulldozer fell through the ice which is floating. Since then they put escape hatches in all the bulldozer roofs.

I was surprised by that, and looked it up. Very limited info, and didn't find anything to say where they stay when there. I wouldn't have thought there was any spare accommodation on the base. In any event, unless they are given a tour of the base it would be the most boring tour EVER. Nothing to see but snow far as the eye can see. Seems a lot to pay to look at snow. I could easily have gone to Sth Pole just by asking a US pilot to hitch hike, but we were told that if we did that, we'd be going back to NZ soon as back at base. Nobody took the chance, as if one went, the weather might delay the return trip for days. I spoke with some of the guys that did go ( officially ), and they said the brownies were the best thing about it.
