  1. I read it way back and can't remember what publication it was in. The people that would know have likely passed away by now. Does it really matter anyway, It was just a remark of no significance? "Nuff said on that I think. Now back to the drains of today.
  2. Some of us know why.
  3. Probably before the 80s. Pattaya was growing in the 70s.
  4. Here's a photo from Google images apparently of Pattaya in the 60s or 70s. Do you see enough land between the buildings and the beach for the road of today? I don't.
  5. 555555555555555 It was a fishing village till Vietnam war. Perhaps they had to reclaim the land because the land side was owned land with buildings, and not enough space for a proper road along the beach.
  6. You think they should stay in and watch tv instead? Some years ago wading to the bar in Bkk was not unusual. Then they put in some big pumps along the river and solved that problem.
  7. ?????? If it floods they ain't doing the job, IMO. As I understand it the present Beach Rd was built on reclaimed land.
  8. There has been a lot of work on drainage for as long as I'd been going to Pattaya. In the 90s they dug up Beach Rd 2 or 3 times to put in bigger pipes. The last version did seem to work till they widened the road and apparently forgot to connect the road side drains to the big pipes and it flooded in a normal rain shower.
  9. If there is a flood that is in buildings it is surely obvious they can't do the job. Planning should be for the worst case scenario, not the average, but planning seems to be absent from city hall in my experience of living in Pattaya. I'm well aquainted with Pattaya floods as I lived just off Buakhao. The soi flooded regularly.
  10. When I was living on it, even the lowest parts of Buakhao drained out eventually. The pipes were just not large enough to take the amount of water that fell, though it could have been they were blocked by sand etc.
  11. You think they are actually qualified hydraulic engineers? They, IMO, have no clue about city planning, so why would they know about drains, though they probably do understand if they put small ones in this year, they can dig the road up and put bigger ones in next- lots and lots of lovely you know what.
  12. Then they should be in fours. Perhaps 4 feet is a bit excessive, but certainly larger than 1 foot, given the amount of water that falls in a tropical storm. Obviously they can't do the job, given the floods. However, did Beach Rd flood or was it just Buakhao?
  13. How could you check the pipes where they are under the road? You can't see into them from the road side drains. A "few" doesn't count for all. I have always taken an interest in infrastructure, and the infrastructure in Pattaya is a disgrace to civil engineering, IMO. If the drains were not blocked, then the problem is elsewhere, but a problem they apparently can't solve for 30 years.
  14. The laugh was for the size of the pump outlets. They should be at least 4 times as large, IMO. The VDO is of Buakhao, and that has always been a problem for floods. I guess nothing much changes away from Beach Rd.
  15. Doesn't matter how big the pipes are if the road drain holes are blocked. They never seem to get that bit right, and I doubt they ever clean out the big pipes under the road- hence they fill up with sand and rubbish. Anyway, the best way to deal with the problem is to take the water directly from the bottom of the sois out to sea. No messing around diverting it along the road.
  16. Why do people not use anonymous forums to complain? I'd never complain on line if I thought they could identify me.
  17. The beauty of cheap Thai hotels is that they are all concrete, and no carpet in hallways etc, so a fire would be confined to one room. I usually stayed in cheap hotels. Guest houses are sometimes flammable, but usually only 2 or 3 floors, so hopefully won't die if go out the window down a sheet.
  18. Perhaps it's time to remind posters of the forum rules Our Forum Rules and Standards of Conduct can be summarized as Be Nice, Be Respectful. We encourage all members to be nice to each other, to help each other and to enjoy the forum and its content.
  19. Wrong thread. This one is about Biden's speech.
  20. LOL. Plenty of posters on this forum already convicted him. Tell them that.
  21. I doubt he liked Obama. Are we not getting a bit OTT on the language? Jai yen, jai yen.
  22. I agree, and if they can prove he colluded with the Russians, the North Koreans, the Chinese and anyone else not American against the USA, execute him. Oh, they already tried that, but nada.
  23. No. They only need one piece of evidence to convict him. Are you claiming they would give him a longer sentence based on the number of documents? Any conviction would render him unable to stand for office in 2024. The longer the delay, the more suspicion will arise that it's a political witch hunt, timed for the elections. Personally, I think they have been alarmed at the reaction and don't know how to proceed without enraging a significant portion of the voting population. Be ironic if this, IMO, farce gets him elected again.
  24. So, arrest him now, and the others later. Just do it!
