  1. intercept the drugs, contaminate them, and put them back out on the supply chain.

Well you're a nice piece of work, aren't you? Judge, jury and executioner all in one. I don't suppose it ever occurred to you that you might be wrong, did it?

5 million ya ba pills destined for the south? Just how many ya ba users are there down there? When you think about it, it seems like a huge amount. I, a single individual, know quite a lot of Thai people. I'm quite sure that none of them have ever taken ya ba. I have seen a few (not many, and I know the signs) youngsters in bars that may be on it. But really, the percentage of the population who use ya ba must in reality be very small. I would think 5% would be a gross overestimation, and most of those would be occasional users. So 5% of the population is about three million spread across the whole country. Of which a small percentage live in the south. And they were sending FIVE MILLION pills down there?

Something doesn't add up, unless the pills were destined for somewhere else.

I'm sure some of the 5 million pills would have easily made it across the border to Malaysia, Singapore and beyond. Sadly it's quite popular for Malaysians and Sigaporeans to travel to Southern Thailand to enjoy the nightlife and take speed. Indonesia is also a huge drug market.

Users of methamphetamine rapidly develop tolerance and often take two tablets for breakfast etc. It's not always so easy to spot a regular user as the obvious signs become less pronounced with tolerance. The Thai appetite for ya-ba tablets could be as high as several million tablets per week. It's very popular. unfortunately.

There have been news reports from Europe where legally prescribed methamphetamine has been increasingly subscribed in alarming numbers. Check out Adderall.

  2. Hey, I don't suppose you know where to purchase a crate from? I have been speaking to a few friends who have dogs and they all started off with a crate/large cage at first to help train there dogs... placing the pup in the crate at the same time each night to give it a sense of security and control its toilet time, my friend said his dog actually loves to go in the crate at night and when he lets it out at say 6am (usually when I get up) its ready to go to toilet... see

I have read quite a few articles on crate training and it seems a good way to go however I cannot seem to find a decent good quality crate in Maha Sarakham, anyone know of any decent crates in Khon Kean? don't mind traveling to get one if need be,

    Thanks

My doctor uses a crate for his neurotic husky, and several of my other neighbors use home made crates. It should be quite easy to have a custom one built using either wood and chain link fencing or steel tubing (rectangular) for the frame.

This is an interesting topic, and thanks for wayned for tips on ivermectin/Sevin above.

  3. "I advocate having the Gov. purchase and distribute drugs for free."

That's an interesting business model. As pointed out there would still be much competition for the distribution network for the free drugs from big pharma. Another problem would occur if the majority of the population opted to take drugs every day and all of the time.

I agree with the poster who noted the mentality of the drug traffickers. Jail time is expected and it's part of the normal course of doing business. Also don't forget that in the West incarceration is a huge for profit business. There is a lot of money being made locking up all the petty drug users.

  4. "Perhaps it is a different type of racism, a quiet and not in your face racism."

It helps if one does not confuse "in your face racism" with ignorance and lack of experience in dealing with other races. I still meet Thai people regularly who have had almost no direct or first had experience with westerners. I'm sure there are plenty of people in the UK who have had much direct contact with Thai people. Ignorance doesn't necessarily indicate bad character.

  5. Any remaining debts that the wife had prior your wedding is her own debt. Any debt thereafter is common debt, both of you are responsible. The same applies to assets.

    AFAIK this is correct.

I've two different ways to suggest for dealing with this situation for the OP.

1). Take your wife and go to the Amphur urgently and divorce her right then and there. It will all be over within 30 minutes or less. Then you are done. The divorce agreement will state what appears above in the quoted text. You will not be required to pay anything at the divorce for debts etc. It is simply a divorce agreement. Collection of monies for common debts after the divorce is a separate matter entirely.

2). If your wife balks or flinches at the thought of a quick divorce as stated above take the advice given by iancnx in post #30 of this thread. You could also taunt her by asking for 200k baht from her before you will sign the divorce papers.

Option 2). is somewhat tongue in cheek.

Know that she could run up massive debts between now and the time you get your divorce and you will be responsible for half of everything she has borrowed. You are at risk. You don't need a lawyer to get a divorce. I recommend that you make a preliminary visit to the Amphur alone and talk to them first about your plans to divorce. They can walk you through the very simple process. This way you will be better prepared when you return to the amphur together with your wife to get divorced.

She can't sue you for anything, however the creditors for your common debts can sue you for collection of your share, even after you are divorced. e.g force the sale of a condominium or automobile you may own in the future.

    Good luck.

  6. The estimated alleged total of the consignment is 5 million tablets. Does anyone know what the cost of production for 5 million tabs would be? AFAIK the required precursor chemicals are quite inexpensive. How difficult will it be for the traffickers to simply cook up another batch?

  7. Most likely the inject-able medicine that 96tehtarp is referring to is Ivermectin. I raise Golden Retrievers and it is an effective preventative medication for the control of heart worm but I have found that the high dosages needed to control ticks is dangerous and could prove fatal. Before using it I would consult with your vet. Effective control of ticks is a real problem as it seems that each animal reacts to the available meds in different ways. Front line works okay on most of my dogs but I have two that seem to be immune to it

Yes, Ivermectin was the drug I used. A 50 ml vial costs 55 baht (now that I remember.) I second the advice quoted above to use it only on recommendation by a vet. My experience was that a very small dose worked quite well and the dogs tolerated it well. Typically a 1.5 cc dose under the skin did the trick, lasting about 45 days for a 30-40 kg dog.

The ticks are very small and look a lot like tiny crabs. They affix themselves to the skin and gorge themselves on blood and will swell up to the size of large peas. The problem I experienced with shampoos, powders, and sprays was my tick free dogs would pick up new ticks in a matter of minutes from any land or area that had previously been used by soi dogs. The ticks were very clever at finding new hosts.

Incidentally, most of the powders and lotions contain permethrin which is very toxic to cats.
