  1. I very often receive mail from Hong Kong and it takes from one to two weeks.

It is also likely you could get it in 3-5 days in most cases too. I have seen this.

I am talking about ordinary normal airmail (with or without registration).

you might want to post your results once you made such a posting.

  2. Hi,

My Daughter is in Grade 2 and Son in KG3 in Pan Asia International School. I am happy about their progress.

Pan Asia is going for WASC (Western Association of Schools and Colleges) accreditation and IB (International Baccalaureate) Certification.

I suggest you visit personally and judge yourself.

    Tariq

Hi.. Where have you got the information that PAIS is going for IB Certification?

I can't find it on the website.

    Is this true?

Is IB better than British or any other curriculum?

  3. As mentioned your registration for road tax has run out. Normally the fine is 400 baht, at least it was for me several years ago. :) You need the compulsory insurance to show the Transport office and if the car is more then 7 years old you will need a safety check done where they will check operation and emissions and transfer the VIN to a tape. The back of your blue book will show the last tax payments to give you an idea as to how much you will pay for that.

//edit - the expiration month was April

My car is bought in 2004 originally. So, it is only 5 years old. I bought it second hand in Feb 2008.

Can someone advise where can I do this easily near Rama 3, Bangkok (Around Sathorn and Silom).

Do I have to bring the car to transport office in person? Can this be done on a Saturday?

I checked my book and it shows some payments of THB1644. I am quite sure this is the Tax as it has got the dates matching to 25Apr for every year till 2007.

So, I assume the sticker in my car shows the Registration Date rather than the Expiry... It says Apr 2551 (2007).. so the expiry is one year from that date, Apr 2008, right?

    Thank you.

  4. I have just come to realize that the following whatever it is has expired:

    83e9d5664f.jpg

The car I am using is second hand which was bought in Feb 2008. Toyota Vios.

I have 2nd Class Insurance from Bangkok Insurance which has all the Compulsory Insurance, 3rd Party, etc and all the rest of it.

So, what is the above sticker for? Is this required?

If yes, now that it has expired.. when was that by the way? All I know is that it expired sometime in 2008.

What should I do now? Any fines?

Should I go to renew this myself? Can I do it in 7-11 or something?

Can someone do this for me?

I have been driving around with this sticker on the front panel since Feb 2008 and so far I haven't got into any problems. Even 3 times I was stopped by police for other minor checks etc.

Please help. I am lost here.

  5. "The tape records widths of between 49 and 56 millimetres"

I first thought that scale is diameter, but after looking on our caliper I doubt that. Thai men would be monster.

Than I took the size /3.14: 56/3.14=17.8 mm that looks too small.

    What mistake did I made???

You didn't make any mistake.. but, this is strange??? I think it is them who made the mistake on wrong interpretation of widths, lengths or diameter.

  6. I've been flashing other android firmwares on my G1 - currently running the Hero version of Android. Looks like thexda developers forum will release the moto droid firmware 2 in the next day or two - cant wait :)

Hey how to do that.. Can i upgrade my Magic to the Hero UI? Is it easy? Any Good? or better?

I bought this phone in HK so I don't have support from here.

    Please help.

  7. 203.144.255.71 & 203.144.255.72

For whatever reason, the above DNS didn't work for me today. And NO INTERNET for over 4 hours while I was trying to fix it through whatever means.

Only Skype worked.. and nothing else worked.

After contact the True Help Desk on 02-900-9000

They asked me to change the DNS to:

    203.144.207.29 & 203.144.207.49

And, she was surprised by the above 71 and 72 numbers.

Only after changing to the above 29 and 49 numbers it worked.

    Hope this helps someone.

  8. I have bought a bicycle from Tesco about 1.5 years back, and both tyres do not retain air.

Looks like there is some leak or punctured.

Where can I take it to fix? Around Rama 3 or Silom Areas. Is there any possibility of a fix?

    Any idea about costs?

    Similar Bicycle as this one:

    Diamondback_Laser-16_boys_bicycle.jpg

    Thank you.

  9. http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/index.php?sh...st&p=329895

    Electricity cost formula:

    First 150 units @ 1.8047 baht = 270.705

    Next 250 units @ 2.7781 baht = 694.525

    Next xxx units @ 2.9780 baht = ???.???

    + standing charge...................... 40.9 baht

    + FT (fuel tax?) =.....total units*0.4328 baht

    Everything charged at 7% VAT

    e.g. 530 units: 1736.24 baht

Thank you for the above formula.

Looks like the fuel tax is now increased.. I see on my bill it is now: total units * 0.92547 baht (232 units and Charged Fuel Tax 214.71)

Other things are exactly as above.

For 232 units usage... I am charged THB806.91.

Can someone confirm this or provide the updated version of this.

Also, Can someone tell me what the units mean? Is it KwHr or something similar? If not how to find the KwHr?

    Any explanation.

  10. Thank you all your comments.

Here is the URL for Siam Ocean World Prices

The price in Thai Numerals is Adult: 350 Child:250

The price in Arabic Numerals is Adult: 850 Child: 650

I might go there next weekend and will let you guys know if I was charged Thai or Farang Price. I will not go if they insist on Falang price anyway.

For any problems, some items I will show to insist on Thai Price will be (in the order that I will show to them)..

    1) Thai Driving License

    2) Local SCB Credit Card

    3) Business Card

    4) Work Permit

    Will keep you posted.

In my opinion, local farangs should boycott this place if they insist to charge with Farang Price.

I was at Siam Paragon today and took a quick look down in the basement.

There is a sign above the entrance (with ticket counters) at the far left which says "Thai residents price available. Inquire at the ticketing counter".

On enquiry at the information counter I was told that this applied to anyone who could produce: A Thai driving licence, a work permit; or a Thai 'credit card' (my Kasikorn ATM card was deemed adequate). Thinking about it now, I didn't confirm for sure that the Thai Residents price was the same as the Thai price displayed in Thai - my bad.

I asked if this was available in writing - no.

The English and Thai prices are displayed above the entrance as per the website... However, there is a twist - the Farang price includes entrance to the 3D Movie and the glass bottom boat ride, but the Thai entry only includes the 3D Movie. The price of the GBB Ride is 150 baht, so that accounts for some, but not all, of the difference.

    Cheers,

    K.

Thank you phaethon for your above message.

So, assuming the Thai Price Resident Price is THB350, then with the of GBB (THB150).. it amounts to THB500. Still it is much cheaper (40%+) than the Farang price of THB850.

Also, I am wondering if the the lower ticket price will be for the whole group (say myself, wife and a friend from foreign country), regardless of the other parties (my wife and a friend from foreign country) holding NONE of the (thai driving license, local bank card or work permit).

So, all of us pay THB350. ??? :)

  12. I was there yesterday and paid 1200 baht for 2 adults and 2 kids. I don't remember any individual prices but i'm sure the farang adult price was 200 baht more than Thai. They asked to see my driving licence before they would give me the thai price. No idea about age limits for free kids.

    nidge: Thanks for your reply.

I will wait for someone who can post individual prices.

Based on your statement, I can only guess it is Thai Adult: 400 and Thai Child: 200 for a total of THB1200 (for 2 adult and 2 kids).

Also, could you tell me if it was any good? How long does it take typically cover all the areas of ocean world? (2 hours enough or more??)

Any thing I need to be concern about timing.. like it is better to visit before 6pm, etc. so that I don't miss this show or that.

  13. Hi.. does anyone know what the current prices are for visiting Siam Ocean World?

Does it still have Thai and Farang Prices?

I gather following info from other posting:

11/07/08: Adult/Child.. .Thai Price: 450/280, Others Price: 860/650. Is this still true? or outdated?

Please advise. Does a person with Work Permit and a Thai Driving License considered a local or farang.

Also, a child of 2.5 years considered at child rates? or free?

  14. One day my front left tire was found flat. An assistant helped me to buy a second hand tire for THB700 and changed it.

After a few days of using it, I found the replaced tyre was losing pressure too.

I normally put pressure for 30 at gas station every sunday and the next sunday the pressure was found to be 22.

The assistant took the car to do a recheck of the tire and found that the tire itself doesn't have a problem (after putting through a water test). He suggested that it may be to do with the Rim of the tire which may have dust or rusty, etc. Anyway he has cleaned it for now and asked me to check for another week.

    I have the following questions:

    1) What is the correct tire pressure for Vios? Is 22 (front-left) ok to survive say for every week of resetting it to be 30 again.

    2) What is the cost for replacement of new tire? Is THB700 for second hand reasonable?

    3) How often should we totally replace the tire to NEW.. after how many Kms? Or is there such thing?

    4) Why would the second hand tire lose pressure quickly.. any ideas?

    5) What is wrong with taking the spare tyre at the back and replace it with the front-left? My assistant said, the spare tyre may not be ideal to replace as it may be too old. Is it true? Then why have the spare tyre at the back.

I have no idea about technicalities of the car.. so please help.

  15. Why would they make this a paid service? To be as inconvenient as possible?

And what's AIS? Are you referring to the mobile phone carrier?

Yes. AIS (Advanced Info Service) the mobile carrier.

They will make it paid may be because they have spent $$$ to develop this (which should be a paltry sum).. and yes to make it as inconvenient as possible.

And, all this is because, those idiots in AOT (Airports of Thailand) cannot provide a decent real-time flight schedule on the web till this moment (just like the one for Hong Kong Airport).

  16. Hello,

I have bought 2 Second Hand Vehicles in Bangkok last month. Toyota Vigo 2005 and Fortuner 2005.

Now, I would like to Export these vehicles by Sea to Tanzania.

I was asked to get a "Road Worthiness Certificate" in Thailand from the Tanzanian Contact.

Please provide me with the following information.

    1) How to get a "Road Worthiness Certificate" in Bangkok. Has anyone done this before? Costs?

    2) What are the other required formalities in Exporting the Car from Bangkok?

    3) What is a Typical Cost for such Exports (by Sea) from Bangkok? Yes.. I understand it may differ day to day and from one country to another.. All I require is just an idea from someone who has already gone through this.

    4) Any contacts of reliable and reasonable Freight Forwarders who does this service?

    5) Any other useful comments from persons who has already done such an Export to any country.

    Thank you.

Can someone reply to this.. at least as much as they know or experienced... Thanks.

  18. Hello,

It is almost impossible to get Trousers (both formal and jeans) in standard shops.

I only order from Ebay (which is costly with Shipping Price) or once in a while from HK.

Can someone suggest where to buy in Bangkok... any special place?

Here are the sizes: Inseam: 36in, Waist: 34in.

Total Length: from Waist Line to Bottom Most Ankle line: 47in.

    --

Secondly, if you make trousers with Tailor.. What are the typical cost for material and stitching?

  19. bubba: Wow!! That's really superb. Exactly what I was looking for. I was not aware of this page earlier.

At work, we have been using the following webpage called "Staff Page" and had to pay a monthly charge for THB3,000 per login id and for internal network use only. And, that too a very bad interface and only available for flights from past 2 hours to plus 6 hours (moving timeline). No fixed 24 hours period as the one from webf.freezonethaiairport.com.

    staffpage.th.jpg

So, can you please answer the following on the webf.freezonethaiairport.com

    1) Since when does this page was in use?

    2) Will this be available permanently? or were constantly available in the past? that is to say over 70% of availablility per Day.

    3) How did you know about this?

I am surprised that this real-time flight schedule is NOT published anywhere. It is MOST useful than flightstats or AIS one. Provided, we can see the page up and running 24/7.

    Awaiting your reply with Thanks.

For your info, HK Airport Real-Time Flight Info is one of the best out there...

    http://www.hongkongairport.com/flightinfo/eng/chkfltarr.html

And, the closes thing to that is the webf.fz for Suvarnabhumi.

Sorry, I can't really help with any background information. I just came across the link at another forum a week or so ago.

I guess the site must be quite reliable. I found the other forum and the date of the posting is Aug 30, 2007. So, it must be available for the past 2 years at the least.

Moderators, please make the two links as the key information for Arriving and Departing flights from Suvarnabhumi Bangkok.

    Arrival: http://webf.freezonethaiairport.com:8080/f...ily/arrival.jsp

    Departure: http://webf.freezonethaiairport.com:8080/f...y/departure.jsp

This is the best one out there.
