  1. bubba: Wow!! That's really superb. Exactly what I was looking for. I was not aware of this page earlier.

At work, we have been using the following webpage called "Staff Page" and had to pay a monthly charge for THB3,000 per login id and for internal network use only. And, that too a very bad interface and only available for flights from past 2 hours to plus 6 hours (moving timeline). No fixed 24 hours period as the one from webf.freezonethaiairport.com.

    staffpage.th.jpg

So, can you please answer the following on the webf.freezonethaiairport.com

    1) Since when does this page was in use?

    2) Will this be available permanently? or were constantly available in the past? that is to say over 70% of availablility per Day.

    3) How did you know about this?

I am surprised that this real-time flight schedule is NOT published anywhere. It is MOST useful than flightstats or AIS one. Provided, we can see the page up and running 24/7.

    Awaiting your reply with Thanks.

For your info, HK Airport Real-Time Flight Info is one of the best out there...

    http://www.hongkongairport.com/flightinfo/eng/chkfltarr.html

And, the closes thing to that is the webf.fz for Suvarnabhumi.

  2. This one does the same thing. http://www.flightstats.com/go/Home/home.do

It is not really same. Flightstats is the best thing when you have nowhere else to go. But, the local airport information will be most updated and accurate (when you have access to it).

Flightstats will have some missing flights and will NOT have updated actual departure or arrival times for some flights too.

I would say Flightstats will have 70-90% of accurate information. For major carriers, it will be mostly OK.

While, the AIS Flight data will have almost 99%+ of accurate information as it is reportedly coming from the FIDS (Flight Information Display System) feed of the AOT. It will have all carriers from small to the biggest. But, I am yet to verify its accuracy to its full potential as it is relatively new.

I could certainly give you actual sample discrepancies on flightstats when I am back at work on Monday. As I have the Airport FIDS right on my desktop and could compare data with flightstats. I have already done that before, but do not hold the results on hand and it was a one shot thing.

  3. I just tried this out:

Point your mobile browser or internet browser to:

    http://wap.dooflight.com/m.php?act=〈=en

Then, you can search by flight, or view domestic/intl arrivals and departures real-time as updated on the Airport FIDS (Flight Information Display System).

I tried it and so far pretty good. I don't know if this service will be available for FREE for a long time.

    http://wap.dooflight.com/m.php?act=search&...515&=Search

Yes. this flight is supposed to arrive at 12:20 and delayed to 16:25 as can be seen here.

If you find it useful, please thank me here.. :)

Some more info (but, i don't know why they complicate this unnecessarily, instead of a direct instruction as above):

    http://www2.mobilelife.co.th/airport_mbl.html

By the way, I used Google Translate to translate the above page.

  4. Thanks for your reply.

Iv not seen Toyota come with Panasonic batteries before, so I think its already been replaced once.

This is a second hand car bought in Feb 2008 and used by me since then. So, I am not aware if the battery was changed before.

What battery make Toyota Vios comes with originally?

  5. Last week my battery was dead and the car (Toyota Vios 2005 Model) couldn't start. With the help of a friend's car (using cables) I could start the car and kept it running for an hour for charging my dead battery.

Later, then I took the car to my company's maint facility and the technician looked at the battery and said I have to replace it.

This was the original battery which was in the car:

    1) Can someone suggest a retail price of the below Panasonic Battery and lifetime?

    d87a05ad4e.jpg

    ---

In my company's stock, there was a brand new boliden battery as per image below and the Technician asked me to buy this battery for THB2,200 and I did replace it as per his advice.

This is the newly replaced battery:

    th.efc72f14e1.jpg

    52ccae592d.jpg

    2) Can someone suggest a retail price of the above Boliden Silver Calcium Battery and its lifetime? Is the price I paid any good?

    3) Is the "Boliden Maintenance Free" Battery any better than the original?

    4) How to prolong the battery's lifetime? What do you suggest for next time?

I am totally new to anything technically related to cars. Please help.

    Just fyi:

My company has nothing to do with cars.. all they have is a big maint facility for anything related to trucks, buses, etc. And, they have lots of spares of everything and testing device.

  6. There are two important considerations: the backset of the lockset and the height of the lockset off the floor. The backset is the distance from the edge of the door to the center of the lockset hole. As I mentioned earlier, this dimension is commonly 2 3/8 or 2 3/4 inches. Doors that have glass or narrow stiles almost always require 2 3/8 inch backsets. If you use a larger size, the decorative rosette might overhang the stile on a paneled type door. Flush doors do not pose this problem. Commonly, the centerline height of a cylindrical lockset is 36 inches off the floor.

This quote is taken from a DIY web site. The backset 2 3/8 and 2 3/4 equates to 6cm and 7cm which most likely is the respective size 6 and 7 the technician referred to. So you will need to shop for an exact match as you are replacing a lock set and not installing a new one to a door with no holes.

I did not catch where you are located but there are many lock shops around that can easily re-key the lock you have or replace as needed.

Thank you, that is very informative and make sense. I will measure my door later today and confirm this.

As of re-key the lock, I have smashed the original one to crack it open when i accidentally locked it few weeks earlier. But, my smashing didn't help at all.. all that remained was a bent cylinder. Then I had to call and pay THB300 to ask the lock picker to open it at 0130am.

There is one other room (Room 2) with the same lock without key.

    1) longball53098: May be as you suggest I may make a key for that just in case. I live in Rama 3 Area, Bangkok. Any ideas on who may do this. Cost?

    2) lopburi3: Still, I have to replace the broken lock in Room 1. So any ideas on how I can go about doing this.

Following photo shows what I found from Homepro for a Size 7. This is the mechanism I have in my home.. but cylinder type. I wish to get the cylinder type.

Is it true that... Size 6 is NEW MODEL and Size 7 is OLD MODEL (and antique now)? Or it is not really the case. Thanks.

    1252298709089224700.jpg

  7. In my condo, for the rooms, cylindrical locks are used.

    something like this:lock2.JPG

I am replacing the current lock as it doesn't have a key.

The one I bought from Home Pro as a replacement (THB150) cannot be used for my door as it is a Size 6, but the length of that "front protruding" part (lower right corner in the above photo - the one that goes in and comes out when the rotating the cylinder) for my home door lock is said to be a Size 7. This info as per the technician.

I have no idea what that means, but all I know is that the one in my door is much longer than the one from Home Pro.

In home pro, all they got was this type for Size 7 (THB350 for the cheapest one):

    5972-tubular-door-lock-lever-leverset-1.jpg

But, I am not interested in this type.

Where can I get a Size 7, Cylinder Lock as per the first photo.

If Home Pro cannot get, I am sure Tesco and Carrefour will not have too.

Please help. I am in Central Bangkok.

  8. Hi,

In Thailand I am always looking for addresses and locations of places that I need to get to or visit.

I have no idea how to find my way around Thailand.

Here in the USA, we have States, Counties Towns and Townships.

Could someone please explain how I can learn how the Country of Thailand is laid out and broken down into small areas.

The only thing I know and understand is that there are many provinces.

Is there a website, map or books I can buy in English to show or explain this?

    Thank you kindly

    Joe

This is your BEST friend for Navigation around Thailand (or anywhere in the world)

    http://maps.google.com/maps?q=&ie=UTF8...153637&z=13

    1) You could search for places

    2) You could find the route between a starting location and destination. Distance and Directions will be provided.

    3) You could find Public Transportation for most areas

The key is learning to use the interface effectively. This requires some reading on the net about Google Maps (may be from Help Files or Tutorial) and more practice, practice and even more practice.

  9. ...Open Google Maps... click Menu -> More -> About ... and in there you can see the "Center:" with latitude and longitude of what is shown on your screen in the center.

You can also download "GPS Status 2" from market.. which is a very good application and provides lots of other useful info at the current location.

Or, "GPS Tracker" application which can track your movements on web. You can give access to other users.

    Hope this helps.

Thank you. I remember tapping on "More" but did not expect to find the coordinates under "About". I found it now. On the line below "Center", my phone shows "Span: 0.027062,0.027464" and I wonder what this means.

With GMS triangulation my location is shown a few hundred metres off the correct place and would not be good enough to place my business on the map, if I had any in Thailand, but with GPS it is accurate. Of course, with my phone with GPS and Google Maps I would also need a GPRS subscription or something like that in Thailand, or I could save the money for a beer and use ThaiVisa's free service instead. But with a successful business in Thailand I probably would not have to worry about having enough money for beer :)

"GPS Status 2" sounds interesting and I will look at it. Thanks for the tip.

Span is how much area you can see from the center of the map... right/left/top/right.

if you Zoom in to the fullest... the Span number will be smaller... That is you can only see a smaller area from the center of the map.

If you Zoom out to the widest area... the Span number will be higher... That is you can see a bigger area from the center of the map.

I haven't really verified this.. but, I trust this to be true.

  10. Good idea, but which read-out should I trust, the street map or the satellite image (without labels)?

Reading 2 stops from maximum zoom.

There's quite difference. Has anyone with a GPS tested this?

    Gary, Helmut, Allan?

    I could answer my own Q if I had a GPS. :D

    Thanks!

Street Map is MORE accurate than the Satellite one. I have experienced that Satellite View is off by a few meters in several locations.

s'funny, I found the opposite, oh well, no worries, as long as you can get close enough to the destination, I guess that's all that matters.

A readout from a GPS should be spot on. Shouldn't it? :)

    Look here:

    http://maps.google.com/maps?ie=UTF8&ll...mp;t=h&z=18

The white and yellow lines are from Map View. You can see that the Actual Roads (Satellite View) are Off by a few metres from those white and yellow lines.

When I used my GPS Tracking driving along these roads... I can see I am moving along the white and yellow lines.. but the road images are a little off. If I used Map View, I am moving exactly along those lines.

I think this is something to do with the scaling of the Satellite Images... However Map View looks accurate.

  12. I dont mean to be boring or pedantic but what you are saying is that if you find yourself on a map of the world it will tell you your longtitude and latitude. That is all.

Your average mobile phone will tell you that either through GSM triangulation or GPS without navigating a global map. Am I missing something?

Abrak, you sound like the man who can help me with my problem. My HTC Dream mobile phone has GPS, and Google Maps for Mobile is installed. When I press "Menu" and tap on "My Location" a blue blinking dot shows my position on the map, but I cannot find a way for the phone to display the co-ordinates. How do you do it on your phone?

Open Google Maps... click Menu -> More -> About ... and in there you can see the "Center:" with latitude and longitude of what is shown on your screen in the center.

  13. If you are using AIS/One-2-call the APN is: internet

    No password.

    Thank you.

I have that set already before.. but still it didn't work.

I added a new access point identifying it as "AIS"

Anyway, now it is working.. after unchecking the "Data Roaming" check box. Here is what I have.. in the Mobile Network settings, in summary.

    Data Roaming [NOT checked]

    Usage only 2G networks [Checked]

Use Only 3G networks [Not checked]

    Yes. APN Name is "internet"

APN type, i put in as "default"

Leave the rest of the items in the default state.

  14. yeah iv tried that and still the same but thanks for advice..

Once the csv file is open..

Highlight the column which you are to Sum... Then... Choose

Then click.. next -> next ->

then in the Step 3 of 3.. .make sure General is clicked... then click finish.

now sum it.. it may work.

    Anyway, if it doesn't...

I have 1000s of techniques up my sleeve... and I will be happy to help you for FREE!!!

because i will only know after seeing the excel file itself.

    you can PM me.

  15. Say I am an employee of a company working with them for 5 years with THB100K per month salary.

I read here: Severance payment is 180 days pay for a 5-Year employee

    http://www.business-in-asia.com/thai_labor_law.htm

Say, my company is ending my employment with no problems in my part.. but just purely due to lay off or some economic downturn problems...

    My employer has to pay THB100,000/30 x 180 = THB600,000.

They MUST pay?? or they can get away with it through some other conditions. like giving me 3 months notice before they ged rid off me etc.

Actually, my contract says both parties must give 3 months notice before termination. So, if they give me 3 months notice... they do not have to pay severance. Or, do they have to give both 3 months notice and severance.

    Please let me know.

  16. Forum Park Hotel, on the north side of Chan Rd., just west of Narathiwat Road. I haven't stayed there, nor known anyone who has.

Thank you. Just right in budget.

    http://www.sawadee.com/hotel/620199-rates.html

I checked their Internet Price... it is THB850 per night. I just hope that it will be good.

Riverfront indeed gives special rate to corporations like all hotels in Thailand and round the world. But need to be in their list.

I used to pay around 1300 THB a few years before it was around 1000. When I travel around in BKK I make phone reservation and ask for corporate rate. (I just tell them I work for some big company like Exxon for example) saves a lot of money and I have seldom been asked for a bizz card if they do I just tell them I ran out, ha ha ha!

I wish I can bluff my way through to get the corporate rate of THB1300. Then I will definitely choose this one.

Anyway, my visitors are coming in only 2 weeks later (possibly).. and I will let you know guys when I have made the choice.

In the meantime, if you have other choices... pour in.

    Thank you all.

  17. Not recently - Just checked prices have risen - If you stay a week a studio is 1600 Baht inc breakfast . Daily rate around 1800 Baht .

    Thank you for your reply.

I called that number to double check, but surprisingly she said THB3,500 for Studio. Even more expensive than the web published rate.

Edit: May be she told me inclusive of 10% of service charge + 7% vat. I don't know. In the web it says exclusive of that then THB3,000.

She said Corporate customers have different rates and I have to contact the Sales to check the rates for that.

So, I don't think anyone can get for 1800Baht there. Did you get Corporate Rates?

Anyway... Are there any other choices??

    Thanks.

  18. Does any one know a reasonable hotel with in the area bordered by these 4 roads.

Rama 3, Sathupradit, Chan Road, Nanglinchi. Bangpongpang, Yannawa, Bangkok 10120.

I know in Silom... there are hotels for THB1300-THB1500 range (Manohra or Unico Grande). So, reasonable in the sense the price should be on or below THB1500.

    Thank you.

  19. I would like to bring the discussion one step further.

Nowadays the plasma and lcd screens have a usb port which accepts usb sticks.Does that mean that you don't need a dvd player anymore to watch movies?

Yeas, I have an LG 32" Scarlet with USB2 port. I use my thumb drive and I can play most of codecs , actually very useful and you play, pause, FF and rewind from the tv remote.

    1) Any such TV with USB of a 21" variety. I can't have a BIG TV due to size limitations. only 21" or less.

    2) Does it play xvid, divx, avi, mpeg2, mpeg3 and what else...

    3) And, also is there any TV out there that can hook up to Wifi and be used as an external monitor for your PC/Laptop. I mean without any wires. How about sound from PC.. can it be listened on TV too? or any other wireless technology out there that can do this. someone pls explain.

  20. The above posts are a little old now... FEB2009. So let's have the latest news.

    I am in Bangkok.

Can someone recommend a GOOD CHEAP DVD Player that will play any DVD movie you throw at it and also with USB Flash Drive Input to play xvid, avi files, etc. downloaded from the internet.

Cheap in the sense <1500THB. People... please reply only if you have actually bought the player and had experience with it in very recent times (bought with in the past 2 months). Thanks.

I can't find any ELZE players around in BIG C. Where do you guys bought it? Big C, Tesco Lotus, Carrefour, Makro... ??
