  1. Bangkok Christian Hospital BCH, Silom. Dental is really good and I think the prices are very competitive.

Some typical costs (actual I paid) are in THB:

    General Checkup 1st Time B435 (Drug-300,OralExam-150. -5% on drugs.)

Root Canal for 1 Tooth (one of the molars) due to a lump. 3 Visits Total B6000 + Filling B600

    For Cleaning (Scaling) B800

  2. Have you guys ever used cleaning services to clean Kitchen Exhaust Hood.

One such service I found is: http://www.homepro.co.th/en/services/homecare_hood.asp

How much does it cost? Or is there any other similar service. Please tell me service quality and cost.

We are moving into a new Apartment and in there the Hood is extremely dirty with grease and some hanging dust (resembles hay).

I wish to make it clean before I move in.

Also, Please let me know about services for Air condition cleaning as well. I haven't found any so far.

Thank you in advance for your replies.

  3. Thank you all.

I might go there once to check on the latest prices just to get the idea. If it is only a difference of say up to +/-5000 baht for delivery package. i may continue to do the checkups and delivery in BCH itself.

If anyone know latest prices 2008-9 in Chulalongkorn Hospital, please do post here.

    Thank you again.

Yesterday I went to BCH and I got the following information which was on the leaflet I was given. Both are for Private Rooms.

Normal THB26,000 for 2 nights 3 days (but the poster on the wall said 29K)

    Caesarian THB39,000 for 3 nights 4 days ( " " " said 42K)

I am not happy with the price as I hoped there may be an option of 2 or 4 beds in a ward, for which the information counter said not possible.h

Anyone have other experience here in BCH.

Khonwan -> Me and my wife are both non-thai and can only speak English and a very basic YES/NO/No problem Thai. I forgot to say this in my previous posting.

  4. How about the language? I can't speak Thai at all except a very few basic what, how, where, left, right, stuff.. so do you think I will survive on my own for the registration process with a bit of good judgment and sign language.

Are the prices there for example, antenatal checkups.. same as the locals or different price for foreigners?

Are you a foreigner also who can't speak Thai?

Unless you have a Thai spouse or friend who can accompany you for at least the first visit/registration, you are going to find this very tough going and between the communication hassles and very long waits I would really recommend St Louis or BCH instead, their costs are not that much more (especially if you opt for non-private room). Both are non-profit.

    Thank you all.

  5. My eldest daughter was born in Chulalongkorn Hospital 1997 at a cost of under Bt5,000. My youngest daughter was born there 2002 at a cost of under Bt8,000. I was not allowed to be present during their births – a nurse explained that several mothers were attended to at the same time making it impractical for fathers to be in attendance. I was very pleased with the level of English spoken, the cleanliness, and the quality of care.

These costs were based on a natural birth, 2-night stay in a 4-bed ward. Single rooms are also available at a slightly higher charge.

As Sheryl says however, "expect a lot of long waits in the course of getting registered, having antenatal appointments etc." Despite this, I very much recommend this hospital. I require surgery for varicose veins – I expect I'll have the surgery at this hospital.

    Thanks for your reply.

Is Chulalongkorn Hospital the one opposite Lumpini Park, Silom Road junction as I see in Google Maps??

For antenatal checkups.. do you think I can go straight there.. do the long wait.. get registered.. and get checked by doctor with no further requirements apart from my passport/work permit, etc. OR are there some other formalities required... like some govt cert.. social security, etc. Which floor for registration, antenatal check up times, etc.

  6. My wife is pregnant (second one) and due to give birth sometime in Jun 09. I would like to know what are the costs of giving birth in these hospitals, from your experience...

    1) Bangkok Christian Hospital (BCH), Silom

    2) St. Louis Hospital, Sathorn

    3) Any reputed Government Hospital. I don't know may be, Lerdsin Silom or Chulalongkorn or anything

Please.. we do not wish to hear about all those high-end hospitals like Bumrungrad, Samitivej, Bangkok Hospital, etc. as I already know from other postings the prices are totally beyond our means.

Any foreigners (non-thai speaking) had any experience giving birth in a Government Hospital. Are Government Hospital services any good from your experience.

Currently, all our medical needs are centered around BCH, Silom.

Please state precisely in monetary terms (THB figures) and the services included. Thank you.

Just hoping that some guys will find the information here useful.

There are 2 parks... Safari Park (about 45 minutes drive around seeing all animals) and Marine Park (all the other activity is here).

See below for the timings (info updated as of Dec 2008).

More info... Search "Wikipedia dot com" for "Safari World". In fact I updated some information there.

We paid THB350 for the whole package per person in Dec 2008. Whole package is Safari Park, Marine Park and Jungle Cruise. We got the ticket from a travel agent in Silom but went in our own car.

But for all others, the cost should be as the OP said around THB700 (for adults), THB450 (for Children) + THB 200 for Jungle Cruise (optional). Should vary with each travel agent with transportation, lunch, etc. upto THB1000+ per person. But, I am sure the above price cannot beaten by anyone else.

  9. what's the best way of calling malaysia from my mobile here in bangkok. i'll need to talk for over an hour. are there any deals on phone cards for calling os?

If EUR0.068/Minute (about THB3.15/Minute ) is a good deal for you, then you can use "www dot jajah dot com." Actually you can call to any country using their service... Check other rates on their website.

You can use Jajah from a mobile phone by either using your internet connection and make a connection from your mobile phone to Malaysia

    or,

if you have Symbian device with WAP/GPRS (may be works on Windows Mobile, I haven't tried).. you can do the connection from the mobile from anywhere (without the need for internet). You need to download the Jajah application first.

I am using this on Nokia N70 phone that has Symbian S60 OS. It is pretty good.

    Learn from their site.

    Hope you find it useful.

  10. Hello,

Our new baby pram brought in from other country has got one handle completely broken off (due to a few cracks) and unable to fix.

It may require some kind of plastic welding or something of that sort to fix it permanently in place.

The pram looks something like this and the left handle the curved part has completely come off with no way to join it without any professional repair.

    silver-cross-3d-pram-system-pistachio.gif

Do you guys know of any repair shops around here who can do this (if it is at all possible)... The places nearer to me are Sathorn, Silom, Yannawa, Khlong Toei, etc. and the estimated charge. Even little far away places are ok (but with in Bangkok please).

    Thanks in advance.

  11. I did report through mail for my mother's 90 days notification with NO PROBLEMS. I sent through Registered Post on 27/10/08 and I received the reply from them with in about 14 days.

I do live in Bangkok in Rama 3, Yannawa (about 5 Km from Sua Plu).

I will keep on doing this until I hear from the immigration otherwise, say by rejection of my mail. You should never ask these folks should I do this or not? You will get a different reply from different persons at the same time of day or even different days. All we have to do is take the least common denominator of all (take the easier way out without asking a soul) and wait for consequences later. 99% of the time it will be OK. And, if not OK, so what... we have done very best and say Ko Thot Ka (Sorry).. and do it again by taking the most troublesome option with 100% clearance this time.

Hope you guys understand what I mean.

  12. I had a reservation with Thai Air Asia flight to Hong Kong on 30NOV08. Due to the airport closure the flight was cancelled.

I tried to reach Air Asia for re-scheduling but could not reach them for 5 days. Only minutes ago I was able to contact through their hotline and now rescheduled my flight to 06DEC.

My question is: Am I eligible for any compensation (as I hear from some other places) for my increased expenses here in Bangkok due to this closure?

Please advise. How am I go about in doing this.

    Thank you.

  13. Hi Guys

I am getting very disparate figures for motor insurance when I ask around.

Could some of you people who visit this forum actually quote how much you pay for auto insurance, the type of car you own, what class, which insurer, etc. This will certainly help out the people out there who wants to get insurance for their cars.

This is what I got for a Toyota Vios 1.5 J New Car (Jan 2008)

    Are these figures reasonable?

1st Class cover, named driver, for Toyota is 16,268 Baht

(with a 3,000 Baht deductible. Please note, this does include "Road-side Assist")

2nd Class + 100,000 for own vehicle is 10,000 Baht.

3rd Class + 100,000 for own vehicle is 9,700 Baht.

and someone else said they pay 10K for 1st class insurance. Is this true? :o

    Thank you
