  1. Any suggestions on how to find and contact an agent either in Cha Am or Bangkok?

I am apprehensive about driving to and in Bangkok. Until recently my husband did all the driving and I navigated and even he wasn't willing to drive in Bangkok.

In the States and Australia I drive but there I can expect most drivers to follow the rules of the road :)

  2. Thanks for the information. Do you knoiw where in Bangkok I would go. Also what all would I need to provide them. I do have his will and death certificate as well as my passport/visa, Thai driver license, and insurance. Would they need to see the car. I would not want to drive it to Bangkok.

  3. My husband is deceased and the title of the Fortuner is in his name. I have his will and death certificate. I need to change the name on the title/registration. I have received conflicting information from the insurance office. I live in Cha Am and first it was go to Pranburi, next it was go to Petchaburi, then it was go to Bangkok, next no you can do it in Cha Am. No not Cha Am go to Bangkok as that is where it originally was registered.

I don't want to go to Bangkok unless I really have to. Does anyone know the correct answer on where and what information I will need to accomplish this.

    All advice is appreciated.

  4. I live in a condo on the beach in Cha Am and have 2 outside dogs. They aren't really mine but I have taken responsibility for caring for them. They are about 18 months old and I have tried Tick Powders, Tick Shampoo, the shot on the back of the neck, Tick Collars I got from the vet in the States and nothing seems to work. I pick the ticks off and get anywhere from 20 to 80 ticks off each dog every day.

Fortunately they are very good about sitting still and letting me de-tick them, but I worry that I won't always get the one that will make them ill.

  5. They originally said it was my responsibility to replace the railings. Then I said I would like to replace with plexiglass or something of that nature. They said I could not change the look of the building. My response was then it was not my responsibility if I could not do as I wished with it.

Good news is if I understood them right they came back and said they would take care of it.

In reality they have been very good about the maintenance and trying to keep us happy.

  6. Thanks for the information. Looks like we will have to make two trips to Bangkok. One for the export permit and then when we fly out. It is such a long trip I wouldn't want to subject the animals to the extra time in the crates before flying. I don't look forward to trying to accomplish this with three animals but see no other option. Can't leave them behind.

  7. Actually the US end is relatively simple according to what I have read. I just am not sure about the Thailand end. I read that All pets must be examined by the government veterinarian at the Customs and Animal Quarantine Office 3-7 days prior to departure (the vetcertificate is valid for 10 days from date of issue). This is in Bangkok. I can't see taking my pets to Bangkok 3 to 7 days in advance of flying out, but the trip to and from Bangkok is at least 3 hours each way.

I thought they just needed to be certified by a recognized practicing vet.

I am planning on getting the Pet Passports for each of them.

  8. Has anyone recently taken their pets to the US. I have 2 dogs and a cat that I cannot leave behind and I am trying to get all the information I need to take them out of Thailand and into the US. These are animals that I have adopted over the years and are just mixed street breeds.

I don't want to get to the airport and find that I have not met the regulations and be denied their boarding, or get to the States and have them go into quarantine.

Any information or experiences will be appreciated.

  9. My husband received his British Citizenship by descent just a year ago. He qualified by his mother who was born in England in 1905. Because it was his mother I am sure it was simpler as there was no question of parentage. The rules of citizenship by descent have changed in the last 18 months and has made it easier for some to now claim citizenship.

All he had to supply as I recall was his mothers birth certificate (which we ordered and received from the UK and his birth certificate from the US. Of course there was a lot of paperwork to fill out as well as the cost of filing.

At first it seemed like they were requesting a lot more information until I read more closely and discovered that it was a multiple choice depending upon the circumstances. We did not have to supply any of the information about relatives other than his mother as that is who he was qualifed to claim citizenship through.

I will say that the Embassy in Bangkok was very helpful when we went in for the interview and they looked over all our paperwork and made sure that it was adequate. It took less than 4 weeks for approval and then he applied for his British Passport and it arrived in about 3 weeks.

Hopefully this information is somewhat helpfull.

  10. I tried to book a flight to US for May and kept getting flights unavailable, contact EVA. I called Bangkok and they told me they would only book 3 months ahead because of price changes. I ask about the "book up to 365 days in advance" that the website quotes and she just ignored the question, and told me to check after the new year.

  11. When I was banking with Ayudhya (not sure if this is the same bank you are referring to) I would telephone my bank in New Zealand at 7:00am requesting a telegraphic transfer and by 9:30am I would receive a call from head office in Bangkok asking if I would accept the exchange rate. It is probably the best service we have received in Thailand. The rest of their banking procedures left a lot to be desired though and eventually we changed banks.

  12. I know this is slightly off topic but Sunbelt Asia mentioned a will and having the Court appointing an executor. I have already had my will translated into Thai and will have it certified at MFA. What bothers me is having a court appoint an executor. I have already nominated and executor for my will and would not like the court to make that decision after I am dead. Is it mandatory if you have already stated in your will who is to be the executor?

Sorry it this is off topic and it can be moved or deleted in required.

  13. Some time back I had that happen to me. On an extension of stay for retirement with multiple entry and was stamped for 30 days when I returned from a trip to the US. I checked my stamp before leaving the immigration counter pointed out that I was on an extension of stay and he corrected it for me on the spot.

  14. I know that MediBank Private in Australia has what they call Overseas Visitors Coverage. I felt it was quite expensive for the coverage they gave though. I don't know how it compares to Travel Insurance you get though the airlines. I guess it all seems expensive until you need the coverage and then all of a sudden it became quite reasonable.:o

  15. The one time you might have a problem is if your wife dies. I remember several years ago a case where Thai mother and the Australian husband had died. The Australian Grandparents were raising the Thai child in Australia. There was a long (years) legal battle for them to be able to keep her there in Australia as she was not legally adopted. She, the child, had been in Australia since very young and knew no other lifestyle. There apparently were no known relatives in Thailand, and even if there were she had never met them.

Not quite the same as just a wife dying, but it does give you a feeling for the attitude of Australian immigration regarding a child.

  16. Just did the transfer today in Hua Hin. We had to make 2 copies of every page of the expired passport and 2 copies of the picture page of the new passport. We also needed to sign all photo copies. There was a 500 baht fee. She then filled out a form that we signed and she filled 2 pages with stamps. It was quite quick and efficient.

The Embassy did give me a letter requesting that the stamps be transferred to the new passport.

Don't know if the fee is standard but it seemed reasonable to me with all the paperwork she did.

  17. The best I could come up with is taking her to the US for a 6 month stay with my daughter before bringing her to the UK. Haven't asked the daughter yet though. There doesn't seem to be any other legal way around it at the moment. Not too sure how she will handle being with 2 other cats and low cat on the totem pole after being the Queen of the house here. But still would beat a 6 month quarantine. I really don't think she would survive the quarantine and I know my pocket book would not either.

Sheryl I agree there doesn't seem to be a logical reason why a 6 month quarantine is required if you have all the documents and they could do a blood test.
