  1. I too have low blood pressure -90s/60. Basically when I was in the USA the only advice I received was to not give blood as it could lower my pressure even more and cause shock. I have learned to live with it. When I stand up quickly I actually will black out for a few moments. Have learned to just hang onto something like a chair or wall until it passes.

  2. Another problems arises when when you want to buy a ticket for someone else. We wanted to purchase a ticket for our Granddaughter (20 years old) in Australia to come visit us in Thailand. Cannot use the credit card as we are not traveling with her. Now we are having to shuffle money so we can wire it to her account.

  3. My husband and I are both on independent extensions for retirement purposes. By that I mean I am not on his visa but have applied and qualified for my own. At the moment our 90 day reports coincide, but I will be taking a trip to visit family without him. I will be out and back in before my 90 day report is due. Can I just report as if I had not left the country? I really would like to keep our visits to immigration to a minimum.

  4. I have not imported a cat but seem to recall someone that did mentioned to try to have your arrival during the day so that There will be staff on hand to do the necessary clearances. Otherwise your pet will have to spend the night at the airport in quarantine.

I also remember some airlines will let you bring them in the cabin as carry-on if they are in a soft-side animal carrier.

At one point I was looking into this as I wanted to take my cat with me to the USA for an extended trip. Didn't take the trip so never pursued it further.

  5. Dr Amorn Poomee is the only cosmetic surgeon that I am familiar with. I have had several procedures done by him and also know several other people that have had surgery with him. All extremely happy with the results. I felt while the cost was higher than others the quality of care and results were worth the expense. I would not consider using anyone else.

  6. In Thailand the only bank you can have your SS check deposited directly into is Bangkok Bank. As mentioned before you cannot have an ATM card or electronic banking for this account. You must go into the bank to access your money. You can open a second account and then transfer the money into it, but you still have to physically go into the bank to activate each transfer. These are rules that are set out by Social Security for Thailand. I do not believe they are for all countries. At least 3 years ago when we were living in Australia there was no problem in having the money wired into any bank and any type of account.

  7. I don't think it is a breach of confidentiality if the account holder was not disclosed. The bank manager was just saying that immigration had requested information regarding an "account". Also I got the impression that the request was a few days ago. Not a few days after the extension request.

  8. We had a friend that had her American rings resized and they dipped them in Thai gold after sizing them. Not what she wanted at all. As you are probably aware Thai Gold is much brighter and copper colored that what we expect. You my want to double check whether they will match your gold or dip them when finished.

  9. I recently purchased a new computer from a shop in Cha Am. I don't know if it is a valid operating system or pirated as this is Thailand and everything is suspect. I was trying to download a patch to one of my games that was purchased pre XP and I am informed I need to download Direct X. My questions is "Do I dare download Direct X if my system turns out to be pirated." I don't want microsoft coming along and telling me my system is invalid and that I now have to purchase a new one. :)

    Has anyone had any problems??

  10. I have a question for Mig16. I am 66 and in very good physical shape. Why should I dress any differently that an early 40 year old woman. I think once you are past the teen to 20's age, a classy but mature look should be good for any woman.

I too am having a hard time finding clothes other than the usual shorts, t-shirts etc that would fit me. I see many Thai women much larger than me and asked a Thai friend, where do these women shop. She replied that most of them go to a tailor for their more stylish clothes.

So for now I am Thai casual until my next trip to the States.

PS: when I lived in the States a long time ago I always wore heels. Tried some on the other day and could hardly walk in them. :)

  11. Does anyone know if it would be a legal document in Thailand if you take a simple will in English and have it translated into Thai and then have it notarized?

I have a will already in English and if I have it translated I would know that it is saying what I really want. Where if I went to a lawyer I would have to assume he understood what I was saying and then converting it to Thai.
