My housekeeper. I have become very spoiled in not having to do the housework and would hate to go back to doing it. It is not that I mind doing most things, I just hate having to do them and that once they are done they have to be done again the next day.

I need to spend a year in the UK and want to take my cat with me but it looks like there is a 6 month quarantine period. Has anyone taken their cat with them? I can't imagine my cat surviving 6 months in quarantine let alone the expense of approx $300 per month.

I opened a second account in Bangkok Bank and once a month go in and transfer money out of the Social Security account into it. That way I can use an ATM machine and also have another person on the account.
Social Security just wants to make sure that you are still alive and accessing your account. What you do after that they do not care.

Unless you have a particular reason for wanting to ride the bus, the Sky Train would be quicker and easier.

GK, You certainly read the situation right . Maybe next time he will listen to those of us that know what we are talking about.

BTDT ask that I let you know he posted in the Medical Forum regarding his stay in hospital. So any of you that are interested in his experience can look for it there.

We have been watching the bill and other than a CT Scan that was scheduled and then canceled it all looks OK. They did remove that charge when pointed out that it was canceled. They do tend to bring in other Doctors that may not be really necessary, but then we had been considering having his blood pressure checkout anyway, so that specialist was appreciated.

Just a quick update on BTDT. He is still in the hospital and hoping to be released early next week. He is feeling better and starting to get around but the infection is still pretty active in the abdomen and they are keeping a watch on his kidneys. Apparently they were not functioning as well as they should be. The good news is all the tubes and drains and IV's have been removed and he is now on a regular diet. So it mainly is antibiotics and time to heal.
The care here at Bumrungrad has been very good and the Doctors have also been top notch. The cost is high but still much less than what we would have been paying in the USA. I guess if you have to be hospitalized here is one of the better places to be.

A CT Scan at Bumrungrad was quoted at 9620Baht for the scan and 2470Baht for the Radiologists Fee. My husband was scheduled to have a scan for a suspected ruptured appendix, but because the the lab results came back that his kidneys were compromised, they canceled the scan and scheduled the operation instead

He had already had an ultra sound and Xrays..
;
His appendix had ruptured and he is still in hospital after one week. Was supposed to go home today but the infection is still quite bad so he has to wait for a few more days. Hopefully things will improve by then
PF
BTDT is now on the Surgical Floor and out of CCU. Still not feeling too good and I think the 5 days was probably an accurate estimate at this point. Still not allowed food or liquids. Says it is making him grumpy and not his sweet and lovable self.
He said to say thanks for all the well wishes and when he is up to it he will post and thank you himself.

Five days does seem a bit long but he wasn't in the best of shape by the time he got to the hospital. Also he hates to admit it but he isn't the youngest kid on the block anymore. I'm hoping that there will be no complications and the Dr. are just giving a safe estimate of how long he will have to remain in the hospital.

Just wanted to let everyone know that BEENTHEREDONETHAT checked into Bumrungrad Hospital with a ruptured appendix last night and had surgery this morning. He appears to be doing well at the moment but the Dr. says he needs to stay in hospital for at least 5 days to monitor for complications.
I am sure he would appreciate hearing from a few of you. I will leave my laptop with him so he can pass the time on the net and get back to posting when he is feeling a bit better.

Thanks for the information on who to contact at the British Embassy. Should make things easier knowing how to contact someone that can answer questions that they don't get everyday.

It appears that new posts and replies are being randomly inserted at the top of any page rather than the first page. There are responses of 3 minutes ago in with the 57 minutes ago, or the 7:??am. It is making it very difficult to keep track of current postings.

Does anyone know who you ask to speak to or make an appointment with at the UK Embassy when you have questions that are not run of the mill visa questions?

I don't imagine travel insurance would be much good either. If the Agent did not submit the airline tickets why would he do any different with travel insurance?

I am back in Thailand now. Tired and a little worse for wear, but I have to say Eva Air was fantastic. Booked me on the next flight out and no charge. I must say that this experience has made me a loyal Eva Air flyer.

Phil I kind of thought that would be the case but didn't want to get my hopes up only to have them dashed at the last moment. So thanks for the vote of confidence.

This is PennyFarthing sitting in the Seattle Airport. First of all it was my mistake and no one elses. Just one of those dumb things and not really paying attention when I booked it.
I needed to fly out of Pasco Wa. to connect with the Eva flight. It was around 12:30 at night when I re-read my ticket and saw what I had done. Unfortunately the two tickets were issued independntly and that made it my mistake.
I had quite a time trying to get in touch with any one at Eva Air in the middle of the night, but finally reached a lady at the Eva ticketing in Seattle airport. She was very nice but said I would have to call reserations in the morning when they opened. She did give me the number to call.
When I got to Seattle I called reservations and asked how soon they could get me out of Seattle to Bangkok. She ask why I had missed my flight and I said I had read the ticket incorrectly and thought the flight was for 2:10pm and missed my connection. She was very accomodating and had me booked on the flight for the following morning. Never said anythiing about a penalty so will have to wait until 10:00pm when I can check in to see if anything is said.
So far they have been very good and I am impressed with the assistance so far.
Will post more when I finally get to Bangkok. Meantime keeping my fingers crossed that there is not penalty fee. Hoping they just want to fill the planes on the way to Babgkok

According to their schedule the next flight is 2AM on the 3rd. Same Same, just a day later. Guess we will just have to wait and see what happens in the morning. By the way Penny Farthing is my wife I just happen to be at her computer.
Thanks for the reply.

My wife was suppose to catch an Eva Air flight out of Seattle for BKK via Taipei. She misread her ticket and thought it was 2PM not 2AM. So she has missed the flight and can't get any information until morning. Anyone know what happens now, is there a penalty?

If you are using Bumrungrad Hospital you can check into BH Residence. It is attached to the hospital by a sky walk. They have studio apartments for 1900B and one bedroom units for 2750Baht. Slightly less for 2 weeks or longer.
They are not plush, but they are clean and convenient.

Dont know if that is within your price range but you can check it out.

You can bring a cat or small dog in the plane cabin with you on some airlines. You might want to check and see which ones would allow that for your cat. At the advanced age it probably would not travel well as cargo or baggage.
I have read on other threads that bringing pets to Thailand is not difficult. Just be sure to check the regulations regarding shots etc. Also be sure to arrive during the day so that customs are there for you to collect you pets. Otherwise they would have to spend the night in quarantine.
Anyone Taken A Cat To Uk

The best I could come up with is taking her to the US for a 6 month stay with my daughter before bringing her to the UK. Haven't asked the daughter yet though. There doesn't seem to be any other legal way around it at the moment. Not too sure how she will handle being with 2 other cats and low cat on the totem pole after being the Queen of the house here. But still would beat a 6 month quarantine. I really don't think she would survive the quarantine and I know my pocket book would not either.
Sheryl I agree there doesn't seem to be a logical reason why a 6 month quarantine is required if you have all the documents and they could do a blood test.
