23 minutes ago, Salerno said:Wasn't even touching on that strange set up - just the fact that it's winner take all in 48 States. Why not a percentage based on the wishes of the people as per the ballot box.
It would make sense for it to be. It's a dated system that is unnecessary today.
This election was basically decided by 150k votes in 5 states. Had Trump gotten a bit more in each of those states it turns from a sizable electoral college defeat into a large victory. But it would have also been the third time in the past six elections that a democrat had won the popular vote but lost the election. And therein lies the reason that it won't change. Same with the senate seats. You have states with under 600k population have the same number of senate seats as California despite having 65x less people. But since you will need republican votes to change it, and it is against their best interests, it's unlikely to ever change.- 4

There isn't a snowballs chance in hell the remaining count would win the election for Trump. There's no way he's winning Pennsylvania. Even if somehow 50,000 last second ballots got found for Trump in Arizona, Nevada, and Georgia, Trump would still lose the election without Pennsylvania.
In another post you reference Gore vs. Bush... An election that came down to 537 votes... In one state with millions of votes... Where the governor of the state was run by the winning candidate... Surely you can see the difference between 537 votes and tens of thousands, can you not?- 3

10 hours ago, CorpusChristie said:Dems spent four years investigating Trump for collusion with Russia , wonder why they dont want to wait a few weeks for a Biden vote fraud investigation ?
Perhaps because there was strong evidence of the said collusion with Russia, which is backed by the Senate Intelligence Committee's August report. The republican controlled senate determined that the Trump campaign actively sought assistance and as we know Manafort did share information, the tower meeting did happen, Trump's son and son in law were present and the context of that meeting was to get dirt on Hillary Clinton. And then Trump and his people destroyed evidence, lied, and obstructed justice. There was plenty of evidence there to support an investigation.
There is next to no evidence of voter fraud. Sure the Fox News late night will pop a person or two in front of you but one of those people already walked it back and said they fabricated the story yesterday. He has Bill Barr actively searching, most of those battleground states were controlled by republicans. The counting had cameras in the rooms as it was happening with people present from both parties to watch the the process. Trumps claims of fraud are the actual fraud. He knows it. You know it. McConnell knows it.- 3

7 hours ago, JusticeGB said:Votes are still being counted and the news channels are not the people who call elections. Until all votes are counted the Agency can't call the Election.
Let's ignore that elections don't typically get disputed when there are margins anywhere near this. The only real election dispute in recent memory was the Gore/Bush one in 2000, which was separated by 537 votes in a state where Bush's brother was governor. That's a far cry from this.
Trump is down by:
46k votes in Pennsylvania
35k votes in Nevada
20k votes in Wisconsin
15k votes in Arizona
13k votes in Georgia
Let's say they find some evidence of voter fraud. It might gain him a couple hundred votes. Or he might lose a couple hundred votes. If Biden's lead holds he'd be at 306 electoral votes. If Trump somehow came back to win Arizona and Georgia (very unlikely), and then let's say he also wins Nevada miraculously, that would only gain him 33 votes. He needs to gain 36 votes. Any other candidate would have conceded days ago.
Now it's certainly in his right to ask for recounts, to contest things. But he knows, McConnell knows, pretty much anyone who is being honest to themselves knows that he has lost. There is no widescale voter fraud. He's been beating that drum for months for this moment so he could try to hold onto power. What is both amazing and embarrassing is how many republicans has jumped on board and volunteered to go down with this sinking ship with him.
Then he does things like today where he starts firing people during the transition. Doesn't cooperate with the incoming administration. Obama certainly had no love for Trump but they cooperated with him. They were cordial with him. Trump is simply incapable of being cordial or cooperating with anyone if it doesn't benefit him.- 5

Add to that multiple of these cases have already gone to court and been rejected as baseless. Trump has been setting up this fraud stuff for months. From all the claims of voter fraud, and specifically mail in voter fraud, to him declaring premature victory. His strategy has been known for months.

Historic defeat, historic one term President. Integrity is still the measure in America.
The other thing to note there is that number is going to grow substantially by the time all the remaining votes are counted. For example, in California where Biden has collected 2:1 votes on Trump they still have something like 7 million votes to count, and there are still close to 2 million votes to count in New York where Biden has a +13% advantage. When it's all said and done Biden will likely have received something near +10% more votes than Trump.

Biden isn't a guy who inspires people. I think the main thing though is he is a return to normal. Change is only worthwhile if it is a net positive. Trump has changed things, but not in a good way. Biden will return to the status quo and after four years of Trump that will be a welcome change.
I'm all for change but only if it's change in a way that will be positive for the country. Trump was a disaster.- 6

Jill Stein (Green Party) called some of the recounts last time, not Democrats. But either way, recounts are relatively standard in close races. What isn't standard is accusing the other side of fraud with no evidence. Making it so mail in votes couldn't be counted until election day, and then declaring victory before they could be counted. Refusing to say you will accept the results of the election. Or telegraphing that you would claim fraud and declare victory before the election even happened.

Social media and the left/right news networks contribute greatly to that, but I'd say the #1 cause of that in America in the past few years was Donald Trump. The thing is many republicans also do not like the guy, they just swore fealty to him out of necessity. I'd guess that once Trump is out of office there will be many more republicans willing to dismiss him and his voice is going to be dampened.- 5

It's a real "nail biter" and too close to call.
Looks like Trump will win Alaska, Georgia, Pennsylvania, and North Carolina (though not certain, as some are close). But he will still need at least one of Nevada, Wisconsin, and Michigan to retain the presidency. However, those states are still looking likely Biden wins.
This is very far from the "landslide" victory predicted by some Democrat supporters.
For sure the GOP did a lot better than even their own polls predicted they would. They were expected to lose the senate and to lose the presidency by a wider margin. It looks like they will retain the senate and while I think Biden will win the presidency, it's going to be a lot closer than anticipated.

You shouldn't count your chickens before they hatch... Especially before counting the cities and absentee ballots. If Biden holds on to Michigan, Wisconsin, and Nevada (all of which he is leading and trending upwards) then he's won.

About to the same degree the Leftists protests spread the Corona-virus. LOL
Big difference there is that the protestors were mostly wearing masks and often socially distancing. That isn't happening at those rallies. Not to mention the number of cases right now is higher which increases the likelihood of someone near you having it. The U.S. had more than 100,000 cases the other day, up until last week the record was only 80,000.

It's really not that complicated. When an economy is collapsing it is necessary to borrow money to save it. When the economy is doing well the debt should be brought down.
Trump ran the deficit up even though the economy was doing well. Republicans generally are big fans of borrow and spend economics, regardless of the state of the economy, when they hold the White House, and obsess about deficit spending regardless of the state of the economy when a Democrat is in the White House.
And the ridiculous thing about it is that as he ran it up to historic levels the same republicans who opposed things like bail outs when Obama was in charge, said nothing. Nothing at all.

And the Dems are not the same as under Kennedy. They are more left, more pc liberal, more divisive, less law and order and more violent.
They are more left and more liberal for sure. The rest sounds like you've been watching too much Fox News. There's a huge difference though, and I think you missed the point of that. Trumpism will be dead in a month. And the party has completely bought into it. There's no going back after the way they have succumbed to it in the past four years. People will not forget that. They are going to need fresh faces, and it's going to take them years to recover from this. And that's only going to get worse once Trump leaves office and the full extent of these scandals come to light.
The party won't die. But they will need to reimagine themselves. Because what they've become isn't going to work moving forward. The country becomes less Christian and less white every year. That's a big problem for a party who has done little to appeal to minorities in recent years, and has seen woman abandon it in droves under Trump. The older Americans are dying off in part due to the way Trump has handled Covid, and the younger people have rejected the party.
The GOP is trying to push this nomination through in record time, in part because Trump feels she may help him in suppressing votes, but largely because they realize that it may be a long time before they have a majority. Trump's damage will be long lasting.- 1

Exactly. The GOP seems deadset on setting this country back from all the progress in the past century, despite the fact that this is not the will of the people.
This isn't the same republican party that it was under Reagan. It's more sinister, more divisive, and it is shrinking. The party will need a serious reconstruction to remain relevant long term. The U.S. is becoming less Christian, less white, and less diversity intolerant. This is a last ditch effort by them to make some changes before they lose power.

Because his campaign was wreckless the country should go on hold? He mocked his opponent at the debate two days ago for always wearing a mask. He repeatedly downplayed the virus. They constantly mocked Biden for hiding in his bunker while they held rallies packed with people without masks. He is now reaping what he sowed. I hope he is okay but I hope this is a wake up call to people that the virus is real and it is serious.
