  1. Robbed in my hotel- actually first visit to Pattaya a number of years ago. Hotel Staff (bell boy) was definitely involved in some fashion.

First Night I checked into hotel and was off with my mates for the nite out. I came back and was going to put my digital camera away in my locked up rucksack. I noticed the zipper was screwed up. 35mm Camera, Lens, MP3 Player, and mobile were all gone.

My own fault should have locked them away in the safe deposit box. I was lil off guard since I was coming off a 2month business trip to Tokyo. I literally left dosh laying around in my hotel and not a yen was ever touched. (guess difference between Japanese and Thais- honour more important to the Japanese then dosh or items)

Now when I visit Thailand, everything valuable is either in a safe deposit box, taken w/me or left at home!

  2. Far as Drug dealers - I have no problem with them making wholesale executions. (Shot on sight) They are the worst parasites in the world. If Thai Govt wants to rid themselves of these sorts then so be it. However the only problem I have is the Thai police- I'm not very confident or trusting of them.

  3. Truth is sometimes hard to swallow - granted this isn't the most adept way of getting a message out, but possibly the Thai Govt was given warning that this was going to come out unless they made wholesale changes. Regardless I don't see anything bad about expressing opinions on other countries infact it happens all the time. Thailand is free to issue a report about America too!

  4. My TF owns property and business. She rarely asks for any dosh, however when she does ask I don't grumble too much. I guess the amount of money all depends on how much the actual need is? Do they work and are they able to support themselves comfortably? However sick buffalo doesn't count! :o

  5. Hmmmm so I was right that every bar/disco will pop up with accomodations in order to get around these silly rules?

Does anyone have any clue on what constitutes a proper accomodation under Thai statutes? (1 room, 2 room ect ect) :o

  6. If you have to ask the question than obviously you don't trust her. I'd go with your instincts! (normally 99.9% correct)

Curious how did she end up in Denmark? (have to assume by marriage) Better question how is she supporting herself?(Nordic countries are extremely expensive to live in)

  7. Also tell your son to either leave valuables home, take them with him when he goes out or lock them in the hotel safe deposit box.

Anything valuable will be nicked in your room- I had a camera stolen out of my room on my first night in Pattaya a few years ago and it was locked away in my napsack. (this was a moderate priced hotel (In Town Resort)- god knows what anything cheaper would be like)

  8. Course they know about it!!!! A fool can see that- definitely not mere coincidence that zoning goes in effect and they have just bought land in the prime area. It has nothing to do with Social Order - more a campaign to take care of their own pockets.

  9. Hmmmm sounds like Thai Govt Officials certainly have their own pockets in mind with RCA development. Guess conflict of interest means zero? Not surprising, but you'd think they would be more subtle about it.

  10. My TF was only winding me up or so I think in regards to saying Ferang knowing Thai no good! :o Wouldn't matter much anyways since she knows I'm learning it regardless and teaching her english as well. (even trade- no?)

  11. I'd agree far too many crimes go unsolved and "suicide" seems always the chief determination of the crime. Reminds me of the article of the chap in the condo in Pattaya- he had a bag wrapped around his head, tied with a mobile phone charger cable. Thai coppers declared it a suicide? :o

Anyways obviously the Israeli was a muppet if the recent news is correct. Anyways I suppose this one was way too obvious to sweep under the carpet for the Thai Police. (don't seem to have any problems solving ferang on ferang crime anyways)

  12. So from what I gather- other holiday destinations like Pattaya will be able to decide closing times in the specific Entertainment Zones?

Curious since Soi Nan and Soi Cowboy aren't in the Zones- shall we expect 12AM closing? :o

  13. Green/Yellow Phlegm usually indicates infection- if only in the nasal- implies sinus infection however further down into the chest usually indicates bronchial/chest infection.

Usually a good dose of antibiotics such as Zithromax. (5day dosage) will take care of it. I'd use this last resort since these days you don't need to get resistant to so called "super antibiotics class" of meds. Definitely see an MD if this is becoming long term- maybe indications of an allergan.

  14. Exzyte is pretty good. First look its a disco, but they have live singing/dancing productions which made it a pretty wicked place to go. It's my favourite nite spot in Pattaya when I want to dance and see some live entertainment. :o

  15. Learning Thai is a good thing in my opinion... definitely keeps the locals off balance since they aren't sure how much you know and are a bit more careful on what they say. Not to mention it does wonders for you since they know you've took the time to learn some of their language.

Thai fiance keeps saying- No good Ferang learning Thai. (find it amusing when she says this) Cliche- knowledge is power certainly applies in Faire Thailand!

  16. My humblest apologies then Carrie, here is what I tried to email you..... :o Guess I stuck me foot in it!

I have to be honest with you I'm not sure its a place for a single ferang lady. I can't recall even bumping into any on my trips unless they were with family or with husband.

Pattaya is more of a single man's mecca. Definitely very different to Bangkok. (extremely cheap place for shopping, food, accomodations, services) One of the

few places in the world your mates fight over who pays the check.

Beaches are dodgey- usually take a speedboat over to one of the islands. (clean beach and avoid all of the hassles you'll find on Beach Rd- ie ladyboys, thiefs,

    vendors, and freelance gals)

Since you are getting paid in Western standards- I think you will be quite alright money wise. As far as social life- might be lonely I've read quite a few Ferang women claiming this in Bangkok, so might be worse in Pattaya.

However might be worth a try I assume you'll have a contract for year? (not so bad and one of the best things you can say is living/traveling abroad) Luckily my position has me traveling constantly, so I'm never home! :D

Anyways I'm only one opinion so don't let me put you off. Talk to a few people and maybe you can get a mate to go along!!! :D
