  1. Good a few less people in March! :D Anyways - I think its not the time to panic yet. Let's see how this pans out first - I honestly don't think it will unless the govt is looking to be toppled. I think a vast majorty of Thai's income comes from tourist dollars and they are playing with fire because this is their livelyhood. I for one will wait and see what happens - do see the coppers getting rich over this one if this proceeds as scheduled. :o

  2. I'm begining to think this is all just idle chatter by the thai govt. They'll reverse course in the end- since this is sort of thing that might cause a shakup. If not funny enough unless I'm mistaken hotels are not affected by the new social order campaign hence the all night bars that are open. (get away with 2AM closing times now by having rooms to rent) If this is the case I can forsee a load of rooms cropping up for rent in the non-entertainment zones. :o

  3. I bought a few tailor made suits/silk shirts in Pattaya. Great quality (armani material) No doubt the material was nicked, but was exactly the same material in a armani shop. I took a few swatches in London prior to heading back to Thailand last Oct so I compared and exactly the same. Top suit for less than a $100quid. (Silk shirts thrown in for 0)

Warning though be careful and shop around- finding right material is the key.

  4. Guess time will tell- pretty silly thinking by the Thai Govt that imposing a earlier closing time will clean things up. All they are doing is losing dosh for businesses and tourism definitely will take a hit. :o I suppose we will wait/see what happens around the country when 1 Mar arrives.

Personally not too concerned since bars/pubs/discos never seem to close properly even at 1-2AM, but I suppose it all depends on how they crackdown.

  5. Close at midnight? Well if they do- the bar owners will do as they always do- close and then reopen. :o Let's be realistic here, how many of you honestly even saw a 2AM closing enforced? I know I haven't- they rarely pay attention to it.

Too much dosh to be made- I think we shant worry about this too much!

  6. Cheers mate I'm only winding you up-I'll eat chicken, fish or whatever dead comes across my plate. No worries about the bird flu I was being a tad sarcastic. Mind you gekko is quite tasty even might pass as a faire substitute- we had a few bags of those after a nice session.

  7. Ta for the reply. Yes she is a Thai Citizen, but since we are not married yet, there is some conflicting information I have received.

Here is the scenario I would like to play out....

Book a ticket for her and have her fly out to the UK to meet me. However I have heard that she needs to prove she has sufficient funds in her bank book prior to obtaining a visa. I can see the logic since they want to make sure a Thai citizen is not stranded abroad. Only other option I can think of is traveling with her in order to nip this in the bud, but not sure if this would do much good since as a fiance I don't really have any say as of yet.

Anyways if anyone out there has been through the process, please provide details.

    Cheers again,

    Ian

  8. First off Cheers in Advance for assistance..I've found heaps of good information here in the past.

Well I've come to the point where I am ready to take my Thai fiance abroad-(back home to England) knowing past Thai Govt workings-I'm quite sure this is probably a headache. Anyways if someone here would be able to explain the process and how to go about doing this I would appreciate it.

    Cheers again!

    Ian
