It will probably be deleted as we can't link BKK post but really interesting. I like stuff like that (not that I would default its just not done IMHO i honor my debts). But I do like legal rulings and stuff as a tax accountant its always interesting to see how laws work in other countries and how things are argued.

You assume though that things have not changed since then. The information is around 12 years old. It could be still true or things could have changed.

I have 6 credit cards that i have held well for 9 years, i am only defaulting on 3 due to covid and a few other reasons because of the way the individual banks have treated myself/other foreigners and because the 3 that i will default on are in excess of 1 million in total. I have never defaulted on anything and have always paid my dues so i'm not a c@*t. Yes the statute of limitations is still in place for this.

The only that i need to know is can they seize my car which is under finance, and i plan to keep paying that off along with my other 3 cards.

    Thanks

So you say you 'bought' a car in Thailand with a non-Thai credit card? Or am I misunderstanding something. A Thai Credit Card must have funds in place to cover any spending on it ie It is a Debit Card. No?

You're missunderstanding. I have credit cards some of which i am not paying back due to covid, there is a statute of limitations of 2 years. If and when the card companies send the debt to debt collectors, are they able to seize my car which is on finance (not through a credit card, also i have no thai guarantour).

The only question is are they able to basically take my car which i don't technocally own as it's still on finance, I've only had it a year amnd was bought new if that makes any difference.

    Thanks

  3. Hi I have a quick question that I hope someone knows the answer to.

I am unable to pay my massive credit card bills due to covid and I know that there is a 2 year statute of limitations from when I initially default.

Credit cards are all unsecured by the way.

The question is can the credit card companies/debt collectors seize my car (which is on finance) due to the unpaid debt?

    Thanks

You can apply for a 60 day extension to visit your child. There is no requirement for you to be the legal father of your child to apply for one.

I am sure that the ministerial order allowing people to stay in the country will be extended past the 30th of this month. Since you qualify for it you would not need a 60 day extension until the emergency situation ends.

    Perfect, thanks Joe

  5. Ok so I have a non-o dependent visa (half thai kid) issued middle August 2019. I'm due to bounce on 14th May, However, if the borders aren't open by then am I able to get the 60 days extension for visiting family? Which should hopefully tide me over till borders open again. The reason I ask is that I take care of my daughter (10 years old) and her mother and I never married, is parental rights needed for the 60 day extension or should I be ok? Cheers

Mothers ID card copy is not needed.

The 400k baht only needs to be shown in your account on the day you appy.

You child's name must appear in the tambien ban. That is normally done when the birth certificate is done.

You could go to a Amphoe and show your child's birth certificate to get a print out of the his registry that will be accepted. Your name appearing on the birth certificate allows you to get the printout of it.

Perfect! Thanks for your help Joe

Penang will do a multiple entry non-o visa based upon being the parent of a Thai if you can show 400k baht in a bank.

You will need your child's birth certificate plus a copy and a copy of his tamien ban registry.

Just checked and I do actually have his mothers tabien baan/id card copy but my sons name isnt in the tabien baan, does that matter?

Thanks Joe, will i need copies of his mothers ID? Also does the 400K have to have sat in the account for a certain period of time or is that just for extensions?

  9. I need info on obtaining a non-o based on having a Thai child, if anyone has any experience that would be great.

I'm English with a 6 year old son but his mother is no longer in the picture. I currently work for a company in Bangkok with BOI extension of stay which i've had for years. I'm now looking to get a non-o shortly and would like a 1 year multiple entry if thats possible to get anywhere.

I have birth certificate but probably wont be able to get copy of his mothers id, i do have tabien baan though.

My question is, which embassies would grant a 1 year non-o based on having a Thai child and what other documents will i need apart from passport, birth certificate, photos etc.?

    P.S. We were never married.

    Thanks

  10. So I bought a bike 2 weeks ago in Bangkok and I've just had call saying that he can't register the bike for me because my address is listed as in samut prakan on my work permit, office address is bkk though, only option is to get a proof of address letter from embassy which will cost a few grand. Or I can register myself in samut prakan.

Anyone got tips on the easiest solution?

    Thanks in advance

  11. I was told by http://bananapenang.com/main/ that they would only accept $400k lump sum in Thai bank and not the monthly income, possibly the woman that i spoke with was giving wrong info and the monthly income statements are still applicable.

She also said that you can't work on a dependent visa which is BS and this is possibly why she was giving wrong info about payslips/monthly income etc.

First one with my son was with the mom when my son was 4 yrs old. Son is 16 now. Don't ask me why but it was allowed back then because he could speak, answer and write his name. Second time the mom was working at her business so only went with my daughter. This was only about 9 months ago as never bothered to do it and the daughter wanted to be equal as the brother. She is 14 now. FYI. We are not married. After 18 yrs gonna do it soon. Anyway, go try with your daughter and take the mom's id, blue book, and birth certificate. All need to be signed by her. They will interview your little girl by herself and she may be asked your name and point to you as her dad. Best to take her in the school outfit and then after take her to school as that looks as you are ion control as you really are.. Good luck. For me was easy.

Thanks much appreciated, one last question regarding which Amphur, do i need to register her where she was born, where the adress is on house book or any Amphur will do?

    cheers

If he is already on a Non B, can't he just switch when time is due inside Thailand? Why would he need to go outside to an Embassy or Consulate? The girl is 7rs old, so a trip to the Amphur should be open to do and easy. I have taken both my children and have gotten the dad approval stamped doc this way.

Thanks for your reply. did you go to the Amphur only with children and without the mother? I've been told i would need to register her at the Amphur with mother and daughter together, if i can do with only my daughter it would be much easier and then i can get an extension within Thailand as that's the only issue i have with regards to legitimizing my daughter,

    Thanks

  14. Hi All,

Does anyone know if it's possible to register my 7 year old daughter at an Amphoe without the mother being present? I heard that when the child is 7 they can say who their father is etc.

Also does this need to be done at the place she was born? She was born in Sattahip but we live in Bangkok now.

    cheers

Were you married to you child's mother or have you legitimized your parenthood at an Amphoe or through the courts?

If yes then you can apply for a one year extension of stay based upon being the parent of a Thai. You would need 400k baht in a Thai bank or proof of income.

You can get a single entry non-o visa at nearby embassy and consulates with just your name on the birth certificate with no financial proof being needed. You can also get 60 day extension at immigration to visit your child for any type of entry. You can get a multiple entry non-o visa in Penang with financial proof.

To apply for a visa or 60 day extension you will only need their birth certificate plus a copy and a copy of their house book registry.

    Cheers Joe!

No we were never married and never had my daughter registered so i know i'm not the "legal" father etc.

But what you said about Penang that i can get a multiple entry with financial proof and birth certificate only, I assume this would mean that if i can't get an extension of stay due to lack of marriage/registration i can head down to Penang every 12-15 months for a 1 year multiple NON-O?

    Cheers

  16. Hi All,

I was wondering if anyone has had first hand experience lately on obtaining a 1 year multiple non-O based on having a child in Thailand as any feedback/advice would be greatly appreciated.

I'm on a non-b extension that gets stamped every 90 days and renewed each year, my name is on my 7  year old daughters birth certificate, separated from her mother but my daughter lives with me and i do have copies of tabien baan and mothers ID card.

What would the best and easiest option for me to apply,  will I need anything from mothers side apart from the copies of ID and house book that i already have, what is the best embassy to go to if i need to leave the country etc.?

    Cheers

  17. Does anyone know if it's possible for me to go and apply for my 7 year old daughters Thai passport? I have copies of the tabien baan, copy of mothers ID card and Thai birth certificate original?

Also need to think about applying for her Thai ID card now as she is 7 so the same question applies for this?

    Thanks in advance
