Yes, if they are monks, their sangha should attempt to help them, not just "cast them out."
What is your opinion on this? How do you think society should deal with people who commit acts like this? ????Drunks and Gambling addicts, yes, find some help for them. Kiddie fiddlers, put them in jail and throw away the key.

And this brings up the question. Is marijuana legal or illegal in Thailand? I had the opinion it was now legal. So why are they cracking down on users?

I've grown very few plants in my life, but without a flower, what's the sense of growing roots, leaves and stems?

What exactly did the Thai government expect? Thai's are going to gamble on practically anything. The World Cup, a cockroach race... doesn't matter. I would be very surprised if some very big important people weren't in charge of the gambling going on and pocketing a whole bunch of money.

Apec meeting is just an excuse for a global hop for the elites...
Exclusive hotels, fine dining, pomp & ceremony.. red carpet treatment.
Waste of time & money.

Would have only taken him an hour to open a bank account and got VIP status with that deposit.
Nice guy but doesn't seem the sharpest tool in the shed.
My thoughts exactly.

How badly will she embarrass the US this time? I'm sure the rest of the world is wondering how such a person can be in the position she is just like the people in the US are wondering the same. So sad the US has fallen so far in not having qualified adults in charge.
I agree with you 100%..

The decay of Buddhism seems to go hand in hand with the decay of the other pillar.
We have a temple nearby and the family does not visit/donate.
(have misc vehicles of which one SUV is cleaned to perfection daily by some "volunteer", air-conditioned library(?), misc satellite dishes, the third temple building with a lot of gold)
Instead family sticks to another one which is far out in the forest and seems to be a bit more "traditional".
Good on them. ????

I could provide you with a dozen shreds of evidence, but you would dismiss them all. You don't like Trump and that's OK... But if you think the person we have as President now is better, there's something wrong with you.

Should, but the tampering with the votes keeps happening. In order for Trump to win, the voting has to be fair.

4bht/gm doesn't seem expensive to me.
My kids get 50bht per school day, they can easily afford cannabis.
As for hospital admissions, I'd be more interested in the actual numbers of people admitted with serious problems, doubt there's be 10.
That was my thought. Number of admissions went up from 2 to 10.

I agree... I saw some unwanted groping going on between ordained monks and novices when I was a monk and let the offenders know I would not go along with this behavior. I'm sure it is wide spread.

Many times monkhood does not equate with an "easy" life as we normally define it. Quite the extreme opposite as demonstrated for example by the life within Wat Pah Pong - the Forest Monastery in NE Thailand. https://www.watnongpahpong.org/
As we all know there are some controversial issues concerning monkhood in Thailand. But it must be noted that It is not everywhere the same.
Exactly. They, Wat Pah Pong, have a strict policy even for staying there for lay people. There are one or two other temples around with similar policies, but IMHO, Wat Pah Pong sets the bar.

I haven't been following the details of this case, other than the initial media reports, but one question I have is why wasn't there any effective resistance by adults at the day care center? Were they all killed with the first shots. I believe the gunman used his service firearm, which would have had a standard capacity magazine(7-9 rounds). To kill 36 people, he would have had to reload many times (at least 2-4x) when he was effectively disarmed. Throw desks, chairs, phones, whatever!
My question also.. You would have thought, with all the time this guy took, someone would have called the police and the rest of the kids running for safety.

Same here. Too many of these little shops operating on tiny sales and tiny margins. Buy at a slightly larger better organised shop a couple Kms away then sell to the local locals who don't even have a motocy for a couple of baht more. As an example cigs in 711 63 baht pack of 20. Larger " supermarket" in the boonies 70 baht, locals local shop 75 baht or they'll break a pack and sell you just 5 or 10. Same with beer and Lao kao, the latter my MiL sells by the tot to the needy at 5 baht. Gasoline in those reused 75cl whisky bottles too to the motocy lads: half a bottle 20 baht. Full bottle 40 baht......the markup is better on gasoline waiting for a car crash in the stand in front of the shop.
Yep, exactly the same here. Sold lots of tot of Lao Kao for 5 to 10 baht. We even had a little shaded hammock to chill out on while you drank your tot.

You see it all the time along the highways, with a dozen stalls within a kilometre all selling exactly the same stuff. It happened in my area too with sugar cane. Everyone grew it but the price plummeted because of over-supply. Exactly the same thing happened with growing rubber trees. Thais have absolutely no idea about business methods, supply and demand and so on. They just follow what others do, like sheep, and then get burned.
It happened to my girlfriend at the time and her family. I had a nice home built in a small hamlet in Lopburi province, on a somewhat busy road past the local elementary school and the local temple. We built a small shop in front of the house selling soda, snacks, cigs, beer, veggies and rice and were quite busy for about 2 years. Then the neighbors decided to get in on the action, including the next door neighbor. Now there are 5 other shops on the road and no one makes any money.

It takes a while to shoot down 32 people, where were the police during this? Then he went home and killed his wife and child. Were all the police in town at lunch or what?

Buddhist temple left without monks after all its holy men failed drug tests

Since there seems to be a temple about every mile, I don't think the villagers will be distraught for long. Since this temple is now empty, would be a good place to harbor some homeless.
