  1. that's good to know, thanks, but what i'm more interested in is knowing is they are thrustworthy in case a serious claim is submitted, not the usual 30-40k stuff.. i'm wondering, since it's really an expensive plan, will they cover in case something REALLY seiruos happens? after looking Moore's movie, i'm not so sure anymore.

  2. i am looking for a new laptop, some have XP some have Vista.

regarding Vista, can anybody enlighten me about:

-vulnerability (does it have major bugs i should know about?)

-installing software bought in Chaweng (you know what i mean): can i do it with Vista?

any help would be grately apreciated.

    cheers.

  3. most of the bad things you mention, as a resident, i can live with it.

the worst thing about samui is its high concentration of S-holes, be they farang or thai.

most of the farang people you find here are full of themselves. maybe because they spent too much time in girlie bars, it makes them really believe they are handsome-man and can do everything they can because they have money. the lifestyle of samui got to their head.

what makes a place nice is its people, farang and their ego have ruined the place.

maybe locals have stopped being nice because they've had it!

  4. you can simply return the wp, wait the end of the visa, end then extend it with reason of thai wife.

but you need to show how you will support yourself, ie:

1- 400,000 in bank account or

    2- 40,000 a month from abroad or

wife supporting you (dont know if this is still applicable with the new rules), but in that case she still has to pay monthly tax same as you before.

i would go with option 1

total cost for visa 1 yr: 1900 bht

  5. on Thai visa today

i think its relevant to those who are doing the visa runs

n order to limit the amount of foreigners using "back-to-back" border runs, Thai Immigration has issued a new regulation regarding the 30 days tourist exemption.

Effective immediately, travellers without visa will get only 15 days of stay if they are arriving via a land border checkpoint from a neighboring country.

Discuss this news in our forum:

Passengers arriving via an international airport will obtain a 30 days stay, and for them there is no change.

Travellers with Malaysian passports will obtain a 30 days stay.

This police order number 778/2551 is today confirmed by Royal Thai Police, Immigration Bureau, in Bangkok.

it doesnt sound logic to me.

this will actually double the number of border runs, if you need to go every 15 days instead of 30 it means you go twice instead of once.

  6. Are there any bar owners / restauranteurs who have been given any official guidance yet as to whether alcohol sales will be allowed this friday ?

No intererest in last year or any rumours , just fact please as a visa run is needed and if the bars are closed , friday will be the ideal time.

    bars at suwanabhumi likely closed

    maybe just a few 'shots'

  7. I just got the CAT wireless. Around 10,000 for the USB reciever and around 800 baht per month. Can use it anywhere except bangkok, very useful setup. Can use it on the ferry, when traveling as passeger in the car, and it's fast....

Just did test, 1015KBS download - 422 upload, that's good considering how portable it is.

Tomorow i'm having a CAT fixed line installed. Free instalation then between 1000 and 5000 per month.

Can anyone recommend which package is best and what speeds they are getting?

by cat wireless do you mean the Air Card or the Wilreless Modem?

  8. I have been in Thai for three 30 day stamps on US passport. Can i leave and then return on my Canadian passport? If so do I need to do anything special?

I see not problem, as long as you fly.

The change cannot be done at a land border as the country you are entering will check for

and exit stamp from the one you left.

Although Thailand is photographing people entering the country I seriously doubt that they

have a computer system powerful enough to allow instant recall of previous photos at the immigration desk.

I would think the system is for slower retrieval when a person is arrested or suspected of a serious crime.

was waiting for my friend, and saw an 'instant recall' showing his picture from the year before. it was immediate, and surprising.
