i should add that we plan for the visa run on the 16th, which is a weekend day, is the imm office open?

hello,
my visiting mom is on a entered thailand on a 2 Month 2 entry non immigrant visa, which expires on the 17th of jan,
i understood that if she makes an exit and reentry in Mae Sai (by land) before that date she will use the second entry and will be given permission to stay 2 months.
i also have been told that there is an immigration office a few km before the border, so my 2question are:
1-should she go straight to the border or should she go to the immigration office before going to the border?
2-if i want to accompany her, and if i go to the imm. office can i get a daily pass without affecting my visa? (1yr) or do I have to ask permission to leave the country (1900 baht)?
any help is greatly apreciated.
thanks

lets face it, there is a huge crisis in europe and people have less money to spend, and the euro has lost a lot of value here too.
to come to thailand they have to go on a 12hr flight, avoid the bangkok problems, and another flight to samui of 200 euros (return).
for the average family (ie 4 ppl) this is a lot of money and time.
there are other alternatives, as canary islands, sharm el sheik, etc.. which are closer and more or less the same, places where people are not shooting each other and where journalists dont wear bulletproof vests.
what's left is the pelple/farangs that live in asia or in thailand, they should be targeted, but they too can go to phuket, kaolak, krabi, for a simple 1600bht return... places that have been rebuild to high standards just a few yrs ago
sorry samuians, time to step up your game if you want to compete.. if not hello empty rooms!
-
the main problem is that there is an over-supply of hotel rooms, as there is of restaurants, real estate agents, etcc..
after the tsunami everybody started building hotels, villas, etc, everybody wanted a piece of the gold rush
today there are simply not that many tourists coming here.. samui is not the only place in the world with a beach,
samui is not so great as it sounds to many: smell of sewage, taxi scams, expensive airfares, this is the reputation of samui today

yes it will still be possible to book but only if you already have a VIP card.
the explanation was that VIP card holders complained that they had to wait too long so they canceled the phone/ATM booking option.
thay also said it was no longer possible to get a card. but giving it a try wouldnt hurt if in donsak.

just been on the phone with seatran ferry to book a place on the boat (i ususally do it through Ayyudaya Bank Atm)
they told me that starting 1May it will no longer be possible to book, everybody goes in the cue.
its a pity that one of the few good services available gets cancelled so suddenly.

the civil code also says that a servitude may be aquired by prescription, meaning that if the servient land hasn't interrupted the access for a certain amount of time, he can't do it anymore, the servitude is yours. but i dont know what the prescription time is. in New Zealand its 30 years. does anybody know it?

maybe Tv users could raise money for a billboard campaign, i mean the big ones you see around the main road. i am sure local authorities could give a good price for a cause like this.

good luck in finding the real owner

i know the rule is 400,000 in the bank or 40,000 every month, but i am wondering this year which of the two they ask for - last year they werent interested in the money in the bank and they wanted to see monthly transfers.
has anybody extended their visa recently? what did they ask for?
i am talking strictly about samui Imm.
-
thanks for the info, im still not at the 'looking for land' stage
any more feedback?
-
i am considering a move to huahin - how does it compare to samui in terms of cost of life, friendliness of the locals, schools, immigration procedures, crime?
any feedback will be greatly apreciated

i wonder what crafts and products exhibitions might show.. wooden frogs? coconut ashtrays? sounds like another OTOP market nobody is interested in.
they shoud save the money for the roads and a decent sewage system. most of the island smells like crap.

switch to using your mobie as a modem. much better only 350bht for 100hrs and it never cuts! had cat for 2 years and it SUCKS
For a newbie, how do you order the 100hrs or 250hrs. Im with AIS one to call pay as you go. What is the expiry of the hours?
there's a number to call, its like recharging the mobile, you can also get 20hrs, or less dont remember, there's a number list in every mobile shop. i have 1to call too just ask at a shop they will know. the hours bought will last 1 month after which they renew automatically unless you tell them not to. but be careful, if you use your hours within the month they will start charging you 1 baht per minute, so check your hour credit by dialing *139#
by the way you can connect pc and cellphone via bluetooth as well.
good luck

yes i know that 2 month with two entries could become 2+1+2+1=6 months stay, but in this case she only needs 2 months.
could you clarify if the Myanmar imm. want people to pay the 500baht in dollars or in baht?
thx
