  1. 2 years ago i listened to an audio file called Allen Carr's Easyway to Stop Smoking - you can find it on the internet

it helped me to stop the next morning without any medicine of withdrawal symptoms.

    fantastic.

but 6 months later i started again :(

  2. Hi,

i searched for answers on this forum but could not find any..

    my question is:

you are in thailand on a retirement visa, you have a degenerative (ie parkinsons / alzheimer) disease that eventually means not being able to move/speak, but plan to stay in thai until your last days

what happens when the visa expires?? if you are not able to go to immigration by yourelf??

  3. so to summarize:

1- before packing get rid of electronics, tv's etc, or luxry items

2- if you pack yourself you cannot be insured, if the shipper packs for you you can be insured

    3-ship it

4- if you're thai after 1 year in europe you dont pay duties

5- if you're on a 1 year visa but on your first year here you dont pay duties

6- collect your goods in bangkok or have the shipper send them to your home and handle the duties for you.

    did I miss anything?

  4. If you think all stuffs that you want to bring to Thailand will be less than one container, may be we can share the cost. May I ask you from where do you want to move out? You can PM me if you do not want to say in this post. I am asking a company in Thailand that deal with other company in Europe to quote a price for full container and less than one container , now already 10 days and still not here anything, so I will try other companies and will let you know.

im not sure about how many cubic meters i would need, but anyways this would be all happening next year. but i guess i would need more than half a container because there is a lot of furniture, ie beds libraries etc.. atthe moment i am only estimating the cost and feasability of the whole thing.

  5. I'm moving to Chiang Mai from Sweden in a couple of days and we paid 2000€ for a 20' (6m long) shipping container from Sweden to Bangkok.

You will be required to make an inventory of pretty much everything you put in the container, the shipping company will handle the rest.

I THINK that as long as the stuff in the container isn't brand new, you won't have much of a problem with import duties. Unless the customs are going to search through everything in your container and doing everything in their power to get you to pay some extras for them to put in their pockets.

cani ask what company did you use? and will they bring everything to your place in chiang mai?

  6. hello,

what would it cost to bring all your personal stuff from europe to here? one big truck minimum,

including all the furniture, personal belongings.

what is the procedure, and what should be eliminated in order to avoid import duties on certain items (ie tv, etc.)

do any of you have experience with bringing your stuff here?

any sharing of knowledge is apreciated

  7. Only yesterday my wife picked up a flyer in Airport Plaza from Thanachart/Siam City Bank who are offering 7% ,min 10,000 b,fixed for 10 months. Unfortuantly, but to be expected ,the flyer is in Thai so can give no more info here. We plan to check it out as its is way above,I would think, what anyone else is offering.Bangkok Bank did have a 3.25 % offer which has now closed and Kasikorn has something similar I believe. Just have to check around, the goal posts keep moving

i heard about this offer so i checked it out, found out its not really 7% since the beginning , but 2+% for the first 4 months, 3+% for another 4months, then 7% for months 9to11.

at the end its something like 3+ %, and then you have to take out a 15% tax on the interest you get

in total its for 11 months, but the deal is still interesting

  8. hi,

i just noticed that the spare tyre of my fortuner, which lays under the car, has been stolen, so now i need to buy another rim and tyre.

toyota asks 4000+ baht for the rim, the problem is they say it takes a month to get it. i travel a lot so i dont want to find myself in the middle of nowhere with a flat tyre and no spare to replace it.

is there any place where I can buy a second hand one?

    any good advice apreciated.

    thanks!

  9. does anybody have any experience or recommendations regarding homecare for a senior who needs round the clock assistance,

ie: mobility assistance, home nursing, contacts with specialised doctors, etc??

could a senior have the same assistance here as they could have in europe?

  10. update:

went there last week with adress paper from immigration, medical certif., and old licenses and copies of the passport (picture, arriving card, last entry stamp, visa extension)

i had to pass the sight test and reflexes test, quite easy and then i had to to listen/watch a 1hr video about driving in thailand, a bit boring but can do.

you have to go at 9.00am or at 1.00pm

for those who need an international driving license , valid 1 year, you can do it there too with the same papers.

  11. yes , stefano was driving back home after work when an allegedly drunken teenager with no driving license hit him from the back.

he was a great guy and will be really missed by all his friends.

his funeral will be held on the 21st of feb but he lies already at the temple for anyone who would like to pay some respects to him and his family.

i dont know the name of the temple but its the one not too far from the restaurant, its on the river not far from a church and some big schools, where there is a boat landing as well

and where you can free the birds.

  12. hi, could you list the documents you had to provide to the immigration and to the driving license office?

soon i will have to renew both by motorbike and my car driving license, do you know if i will have to bring all the documents in double copy to have 2 new driving licenses or to they merge them in one?

    thanks

  13. it's sometimes ok to buy land that have basic ownership papers, village style, but be aware of the fact that when it gets upgraded to chanote, they put a stamp that says that the land is not transferrable for 10 years (sometimes 5) so you have restrictions in selling it. but even with this kind of paper people do sell and buy.

another thing to keep into consideration is: can you put it in the bank to get a loan as you would with a chanote?im not sure about the answer to that.

bottomline is: the price of the land today should reflect these restrictions, so it should be cheaper that a normal chanote. if not, i wouldnt buy it.

    good luck!
