  1. Hi,

I have been wondering for quite some time what kind of jobs, expats are doing in Thailand. As I read through the job adverts I am constantly surprised to see what kind of positions are advertised.

Of course some people are lucky enough, to have retired or <shock> to not even have a job, good for you !

In the meantime, I continue to buy my lotto ticket and take my abysmal pittance of just 4 weeks vacation somewhere nice :-) Whoever decided that 4 weeks would be the standard anyway, it's not enough time.

Anyway, I am curious, and everyone has a story to tell from Professional Thai boxers to carpenters to Shiatsu Therapists (do Westerners get a work permit for this and enough business interest ?).

    Thanks.

  2. You can find all our different RSS feeds by clicking the rss.png icon at the bottom left of the forum page.
I'll compare what is sent out in email now, to what is on the feed now to make sure though.

The RSS feed will include all the clippings posted in the "news" forum, not all of those are sent out by email.

    Totster :o

Is it me, or is it more intuitive to have the RSS icon on the right hand side ? lol oh well, cheers all.

  3. Hi all,

I have been looking for a Thaivisa.com RSS feed for the news postings that are emailed out every so often with the latest breaking stories.

As much as I love receiving these via email, I'd like the option of receiving them via my news feeder, however all I can see is a way to read the forum postings via RSS, and not the "breaking news stories".

Any chance of implementing such a feature if it does'nt exist, as I know it will be of use to many people.

    Thanks.

I think that this is the link that you are looking for.

    News

That seems to be it, thanks.

I'll compare what is sent out in email now, to what is on the feed now to make sure though.

  5. What is the weather like in Thailand at present ? Presumably in full swing of the monsoon, rain all day every day ?

I am finding cnn.com/weather not very reliable/accurate for world weather reports.

Is there a good website to see the weather in Thailand/Asia across the entire year ?

I am in need of a holiday, lol :-)

  6. I would guess that was a mistake and 30,000 was meant, perhaps George could clarify if this was a mistake ?

Anyway, sounds quite interesting. Although again it'd be nice to see a comparison with other countries in Asia, what their regulations are for foreigners buying property and the amount of hassles involved.

Is it me, or is there more of a united Asia in the last few years due to globalisation ?

I can see the Thai market becoming a very hot topic over the next few, this is just the beginning.

  7. "Bangkok to become world class city"

What does that mean ? Does that mean that Bangkok will become a financial hub of Asia, does it mean that the quality of lives in Bangkok increases, does it mean that they want more expatriates aka more farang to make it a global city, if so then why not make the work permit situation easier to encourage farang to Thailand.

I think the paradox here it to go from "World visited" to "world class".

What cities in the world are world class and what does this mean to you ?

    lol

  8. >The air transportation agency ordered the captains of both planes to undergo

    >medical check-ups. If the accident was caused by human error, authorities will

    >revoke the responsible captain’s licence, said Chaisak Angsuwan, the agency’s

    >director general.

lol, the director is obviously scared and re-acting with emotion than directing with action and conducting a proper investigation. Human error can mean so many things and I suspect will hide something else.

Humans are not robots and people do make mistakes from time to time, not that this is acceptable but the attitude is not from the Director.

Of course he could be lying and putting on a bold public face because of the importance of tourism to Thailand.

  9. I am very sorry to hear of the loss of life.

The day after the tsunami I was on one of those speed boats and did'nt enjoy the ride.

The worst part was coming back from the island to Koh Samui, because whoever fought(scrambled) hardest made it onto the boat, and so they did'nt have to wait another hour to return.

The full moon party is a big disappointment anyway, but it does bring Baht into the area.

It's ashame that it takes a tragedy for each legislation to be made.

  10. I still don't see how the US has legal juristiction here. It's simply bullshit afaik.

What a citizen of country a does in country b, is dictated by country b and not country a.

I still don't believe it, but then the US has become a disused and overflowing toilet for the world. It's one convenience that you don't want to use ;-)
