  1. I find it more amazing that he was arrested for not wearing a shirt than smuggling.

So this is illegal ? What other laws would catch out most Westerners, I really did'nt know that. No warning, put a shirt on please, just arrest that farang ? Do the police treat all tourists like that ? And nobody thinks this is strange ?

Am I over-reacting, or is this weird ?

    Regards

  2. Hi,

    2 questions.

    1.

Can you enter Thailand without booking a hotel.

I seem to remember last time I visited, I had an entry form that asked for

hotel details. My feeling is that this is not required but would like to know for sure.

I do know that some countries do require this, however as I say, i'm not sure.

    Appreciate the clarification.

    2.

What's the webpage for the central / main train station from Bangkok ?

    Kind regards and thanks

  3. If the police check my details once i've checked into a hotel and they are upto date, as my docs always are, then it would still be unpleasant because you really don't expect this kinda crap. You go on holiday to let your guard down somewhat, relax, chill out, get that vibe going and just have a good time.

You don't expect a crack squad of cops doing spot checks, that upsets the vibe, well at least for me it certainly does. I know everyone is different.

On the other hand, the occasional spot checks I can understand ...

    But as we all know, this is Thailand and anything, I mean * A N Y T H I N G * can happen, lol.

    Regards

  4. This makes me think twice about visiting Thailand.

My paperwork is *always* valid wherever I travel or whatever I do, but to be caught up in such a raid would be absolutely terrible, especially if just there for a holiday. It would probably spoil the whole holiday.

What is the political angle behind this ? What is really going on ?

Perhaps i'm just reading this as sensationalist and it's not so..

    Regards

  5. Oh, you do the amazing unseen Thailand pictures.

Gloves off, and let me shake your hand Sir, excellent work !

I love to see pictures of Thailand in the Sun, makes me feel good, lol.

I'm in a cold country at the moment, 0 degrees :-(

    Thank you

    Regards :o

  6. How about a new forum for learning the Thai language.

There must be lots of useful tips people can contribute here, and it all comes in use :-)

Of particular interest to me at the moment is a list of online web resources with words to learn, well hey something to do at work, lol.

    Regards

  7. So I hope this year I can get organised and get a flight and hotel in plenty of time.

Does anyone have tips for the traveller visiting Thailand for Songkran other than

"you'll get wet, very wet" :-)

I can't wait to re-visit, such an amazing country.

    Thanks

  8. Be careful of just passing out your personal details willy nilly, especially in the LOS. There are a thousand people who claim to open all doors, but only one of them really can.

You don't know what will happen to your details, identity theft is much more common nowadays, play it safe folks.

An email processing job says absolutely nothing, your clutching at straws pal. More information would help you for sure. :o

  9. Hi folks, been a while since i've been on here.  I wanted to gather some information on NECTEC.

    How many people work there?

    Do they employ farang?

Do they pay the minimum salary for farang?

My understanding is that this is the Thai Government funded research and development institute for the country, so they only work on

    a) specialist projects

    :o country IT infrastructure

Anyone got information on a) and :D ?  It's not like their a big secret ...

How do you get a job there? ;-)

    Details :

  10. Hi Randy,

Please read through the Jobs archive, there is a lot of information on this topic now all available online.

You basically won't be able to keep skills current in Bangkok through a career, a lot of technology in use is out of date, and in some cases way out of date. There are rare, rare exceptions as always but I don't see it happening.

In fact say goodbye to your I.T. career as you knew it.

Have a read through the archives and then post back.

    Regards

  11. This is how bad the net has become, we've become too used to all the crap out there, and it is crap, marketing is mostly crap.

Quite simply there is too much of it.

You can filter it out by using a filtering web proxy and I make no apology for that.

Those poor people on modems, like in Bangkok and other third worlds have to wait some time for the pages to load.  Modems are slow no matter how much optimisation you add, and you risk loosing potential users because of it.

Of course the user always looses and marketing always wins, that's just how it is.  Money will justify murder as acceptable for most people, it's just a case of figuring out the amount.

I have stronger feelings regarding this, but will refrain from posting them.

There are easy ways to block pop-ups, but i'm careful not to post the methods in case people use that as a method to find a workaround.

    Regards

  12. I do appreciate that .com business models are tight indeed.

However in this case, I don't get it.  Why add more ads now, if you did'nt need them for the previous 12 months?

If you were running at a loss, then why not advertise higher yeild ads.

    Regards
