OP, your options are covered above.

Do you have a Thai bank account in your name?

If you choose to enter visa exempt or with a tourist visa or even a non O (retirement) for you 12 month extension you will require money in the bank OR monthly income.

What method are you planning to use?

BTW the is no such thing as a retirement visa however that term is often used referring to Non O-A.

It's an option but requires ongoing insurance and in my thinking not the best option. It can only be issued in your home country or country where your a legal resident.

No Sir, no Thai bank account in my name.  My instinct subject to advice here, is to commit gradually in case things change.  Salerno mentioned turning up visa exempt and building on that.

  2. I have retired during lockdown and have been isolating in London with Rheumatoid Arthritis.  Double jabbed with Pfizer since start of April.  Ive had the pleasure of visiting Thailand some 15 times in the last 10 years and found the warm climate is good for my joints and a condition called 'Raynaud's' (blue fingers).  I have a reasonable bank balance to show as required.  Question is, is it a good time to apply for a retirement visa and what hurdles will be placed in my way?

  3. One possibility would be 'Raynaud's Phenomenum', which I have myself.  Spasms in the nerves within the tiny arteries of the feet and fingers cause contraction and in extremis, blockage, so that blood has trouble reaching the extremities.  Fingers go blue then white, very patriotic if you are Scottish.  I come to Thailand to avoid it, but aircon has to be avoided as well.

  4. I get mine in London. One entry with a tourist visa gives a 60 day stay. Pay for a double entry and you get a second entry and another 60 days. Pay for a triple and you get a third 60 days. Total 180 days. Always check your stamp at the airport before you leave the immigration area. Also, you might say (with a polite smile), "60 day na?" as the immigration officer hands you your stamped passport, followed by thank you or Kar poom Khrap (Thai for thank you).

  5. attachicon.gifseatran.jpg This was a tourist ferry leaving from Koh Tao a few days ago . I thought it was on fire ! until I saw it do the same thing the next day . the engine is clearly in a bad condition for it to create this much smoke !! how long before it blows up and sinks just like the Krabi boat ? I decided not to use this ferry company when I left the island !

Dear ConfusedFarang9, please could you forward your photograph to the marine authorities, there is not much point telling us. If you have already done so, please feel free to tell me to mind my own business. Thankyou.

  6. A conviction in this case would be worldwide news and produce front page headlines, big photo's and major tv coverage in the UK. The country of origin of the criminal/s concerned will receive very bad press. The story would run daily from arrest to trial to judgement. It would be a significant blow to tourism in Thailand if a Thai person were to be convicted. Therefore, if a foreign 'perp' cannot be found, the temptation will be to allow the matter to cool off, go cold and be forgotten.

There are people who can never forget and our thoughts must continue to be with them.
