Report Israeli Tourist Sparks Outrage Over Shoe Rule Dispute in Thailand
ross163103 replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
I wonder how she would feel if a Thai went to Israel and didn't adhere to Israeli customs/social behavior. She needs to remember she's a guest in Thailand, even after living here full time for 30+ years I still think that way. -
One of the reasons I don't have rental properties in Thailand. When I rented many years ago I actually left the house in better shape than when I left, still didn't get my damage deposit back. So it goes both ways, I won't--and don't need, to rent again, and I won't rent out any properties, simple really. I've seen too many owners in this same situation, all the profits they made over x number of months/years has to be put back into the property fixing up the damage. Another problem is, it's hard to get justice either way, whether you're the owner or the renter, most times the police won't do anything unless you're rich, powerful, or both in which case they will have their hand out waiting for that brown envelope to come their way. It's one of those conundrums uniquely Thai! I had a friend with a bar and he decided to get a snooker table, several months later BIB showed up and asked for his license, he said he didn't have one so asked where he could get one, police said, "You can't." I guess now he pays for his license with a brown envelope he gives them......every month! TIT 55555

I've always thought about this as thru the years I see them constantly putting in larger and larger pipes on different roads throughout the city. The problem is, if the water has nowhere to go after filling up the pipe this type of solution won't work. It just takes a little more time for the flooding to start as the pipes acts as a reservoir. Oh well, same same different day, TIT.

Opinion Russian Teacher to Thais: Drop ‘Farang’ if 'Ni Hao' Offends
ross163103 replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Exactly how I feel. As you pointed out; the difference being a stranger I don't know saying it, or someone close to me using it. Obviously my family and close Thai friends don't use it concerning me. -

German Tourist Severely Beaten in Pattaya by Group of 10 Men
ross163103 replied to webfact's topic in Pattaya News
I've seen several fights between Thais and farangs over here; it usually starts one on one with some kind of misunderstanding then progresses to someone becoming physical, then onto several Thais jumping in to help their colleague, and if you're close to a motorbike stand.....watch out(!) because guaranteed they'll get in on the action! Pack mentality at its finest! -
Thaksin Investigation Stalled by Legal Hurdles, Says NACC

"Stalled by legal hurdles"(?), or possibly a flood of brown envelopes that are having an influence on the situation? -

Thailand Chooses Cities for Future Casino Complexes
ross163103 replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Take a look at Sihanoukville Cambodia to see how things turn out; pretty much ruined because of the casinos. Locals have not gained anything from the casinos because of the Chinese zero dollar tourists that go there. Pretty sure the investors--Chinese(?), will be the only ones that gain anything from building casinos. -
Why do they never stop at Zebra Crossings?
ross163103 replied to Robert_Smith's topic in Thailand Motor Discussion
Because like a LOT of the laws here, the police don't enforce it. Simple really! Some times I don't stop because I'll get rear ended by somebody wanting to run through it. I ALWAYS check my rear view mirror when/if I stop at these. -

Instead of a "swift transfer" how about a swift firing. It reminds me of the BIB, in a lot of cases after being found guilty of a crime the punishment is usually a transfer to an inactive post. TIT -
Lifting Alcohol Restrictions Could Boost Thai Economy by Billions
