I had a similar incident like this happen years ago on Soi 8 in Pattaya, was walking back to my hotel with my wife when a baht bus driver pulled up and kept hassling us to get in his taxi. We didn't want a taxi and we didn't flag him down so we told him in nice Thai that we weren't interested, he kept insisting that we get in, then went up ahead of us, stopped and stepped out with a knife beside his leg and kept telling us to get in his taxi. Instead of confronting him we just went the other way since it is a one way street and he was ahead of us. Never used baht buses that night or any time after that, too many stories like mine and others of these mafia gangsters fleecing/hassling/harming tourists. And on another note; if you drive a car in Pattaya watch out for them, they drive like they own the road--which I guess they do since they've got the police behind them, and basically drive like idiots. Sounds like Phuket will be an additional home of the baht bus mafia gangsters in the near future.

Dengue fever remains a clear and present danger in Thailand
ross163103 replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
I used to sit outside in the mornings and read the paper, got Dengue, don't do that any more! There's no immunity to it after you get it and it gets worse after each subsequent infection. Didn't see it posted so I thought I'd mention it; the mosquito that carries Dengue is a daytime biter. -
Pattaya Teen Rescues Depressed Woman trying to Drown Herself

Probably filming her with their phones also in order to post and get "likes/follows" on their social media pages, sad world we live in now. On the other hand, it's great that he saved her, and I hope she can get help, get over whatever the problem is and move forward with her life. -

Official Gets 50 Years In Jail For Wrongful Use Of Official Sedan
ross163103 replied to webfact's topic in Isaan News
Unbelievable he got 50 years for misuse of a vehicle but some murderers/rapists only 20.......TIT! He must have really pissed off his superiors, possibly too much loss of face, hence the harsh sentence. -
Is kindness something that works in life

Depends on the people you're being kind too. I've seen it go both ways but generally speaking I've noticed that some Thais tend to take advantage of you if/when they find out you're "Jai Dee". -
Agree totally, might be a civil war after the 2024 election the way things are going!

Just to start; I don't have the manual so can't use that for info. When checking engine oil level on an engine with a screw in dipstick do you just push it in until it just contacts, or do you screw it totally in then unscrew it and check the level?

Yeah, PM but in the background. What a joke! Thailand can never move forward on the world stage while doing things like this. -

Thai PM to discuss visa-free travel, boost Indian tourism in Thailand
ross163103 replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Judging by the amount of Indian restaurants in Pattaya they must think they're all coming here! Been here 30 years and I've never seen so many Indian restaurants! -
"Yet", being the operative word.........english and Thai, both meanings apply in this case.

Could you see yourself wearing a gold chain
ross163103 replied to bignok's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
Years ago my wife had me wear one with some special amulet to keep me safe, I always kept it inside my shirt as not to show off (dangerous in my opinion), Anyway, during a Songkran festival a bunch of mototaxis riders tried to get it away from me--guess they saw it on the back of my neck, resulting in a fight between myself and several of them. I ended up a little banged up but kept the chain. Lesson learned, I've never worn that chain--or any other again, especially now with the price of gold where it is, at the time I was mugged it was around 7k-9k for a baht of gold. So much for the amulet keeping me safe LOL! -

5555555, that's funny! How many times have we heard this throughout the years and various administrations. Wait till the mountains of brown envelopes start getting distributed, then it all goes back to same same different day. Greed is a hard thing to change.
