Why do they never stop at Zebra Crossings?
ross163103 replied to Robert_Smith's topic in Thailand Motor Discussion
Because like a LOT of the laws here, the police don't enforce it. Simple really! Some times I don't stop because I'll get rear ended by somebody wanting to run through it. I ALWAYS check my rear view mirror when/if I stop at these. -

Can't get rid of it, it's a monument to the corruption in Pattaya, that's why it's sooooo big! -
Masked Teacher's Indecent Video Rocks Prestigious School
ross163103 replied to snoop1130's topic in Isaan News
Instead of a "swift transfer" how about a swift firing. It reminds me of the BIB, in a lot of cases after being found guilty of a crime the punishment is usually a transfer to an inactive post. TIT -
Lifting Alcohol Restrictions Could Boost Thai Economy by Billions

Shouldn't the headline read: "Lifting alcohol restrictions could boost certain powerful individuals bank accounts by billions"? TIT -
12-Year-Old in Critical Condition After Vaping for Two Years
ross163103 replied to snoop1130's topic in Isaan News
I'm not advocating smoking or vaping, but seems to me that vaping is the worse of the two evils. I never smoked but both my parents did for many many years and they never had any lung problems. -
Future Uncertain for Retiree Bank Accounts in Thailand
ross163103 replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
One of the reasons I keep ALL my bank accounts open that I have in Thailand, even if there's an insignificant amount in them. I was going to close one or two of them since I hadn't used them in years but the manager at the branch told me better to keep them going as it's going to be harder in the future for farangs to open accounts.....she was right. -
Can Foreign Tourists in Pattaya Expect Fair Legal Treatment?

If you have a big enough bank account you can expect fair legal treatment, and if REALLY big, more than fair treatment. TIT -
Thai Girl Thanks Swiss Saviour a Year After Life-Changing Rescue
ross163103 replied to snoop1130's topic in Isaan News
If you don't know what you're doing better to leave them alone unless there are two people, one to turn them and one to stabilize the neck while turning. Basically the spine needs to stay aligned with the neck if you're going to turn them. Just keep in mind IF you cause any damage you could be liable. And also better to NOT remove a helmet if they're wearing one, this could also cause some, or more neck/spine damage. -
Thai Girl Thanks Swiss Saviour a Year After Life-Changing Rescue
ross163103 replied to snoop1130's topic in Isaan News
Respect to this guy! A lot of people now days would just film it on their phones then post it for likes/follows! Good to see there are still people out there with compassion for others and are willing to help. Also, hope the girl gets compensated properly by the driver, probably not though since this is Thailand. -

Pattaya’s tourism takes a hit after Chinese abduction - video

Doesn't seem eerily quiet to me, especially regarding the Chinese! Does the reporter ever frequent any of the shopping malls around Pattaya?! The majority of people in them are Chinese! -
How much do you pay for health insurance?

How much do you pay for health insurance?
ross163103 replied to rudi49jr's topic in Insurance in Thailand
Like most threads on here it goes off topic quickly. 65 year old male, no preexisting conditions, non smoker, 162,000 baht a year. The price depends on how much coverage you want, mine is middle of the road but enough to cover most conditions in BPH, even though I don't like using them, not many choices. A 73 year old friend of mine is paying approx. 340,000 baht a year with a little better coverage than I have. No preexisting conditions and also a non smoker. Hope this helps. -
Just my two cents worth, but I think the Thai govt is pushing this issue hoping farangs will get a TIN, file taxes, and pay voluntarily, which some will do. What I've learned from many many years in Thailand is Thai people want things easy not complicated. Seems to me this is a very complicated issue that will take a LOT of research, time, and effort on the government's part; just one example being trying to figure out charges on a credit card made in Thailand! Personally I'm going to wait until if/when it's linked to me getting a visa then reevaluate the situation if that happens. As one poster mentioned, Thailand has LOT'S of laws, how many are enforced? It's a gamble I'm willing to take, maybe I lose maybe I win, you never know. Mai pen rai

Is there anything good about getting old?

You tend to not make as many stupid mistakes/decisions when getting old; that's a good thing in my book based on my history when I was younger. -

Idiocracy was a great movie. It was supposed to be a comedy but the more I watch it the more I realize it's a documentary about the US! People dumbing down!
